4.88% of Cayman population has COVID-19
(CNS): Probable cases of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 have reached 1,073, as the infection rate in the Cayman Islands shows no sign of slowing down. With another 432 new cases of COVID-19 recorded Thursday, there are currently 3,470 active cases of the virus, 33 of which are in the Sister Islands.
Action needed to get ganja law passed
(CNS): A group of local citizens say that if government does not address the pressing need to change the current legislation prohibiting the consumption of recreational ganja and decriminalise the use of the plant, then will they will get a petition together for a people’s referendum to present to Cabinet by June.
Another major leap in Omicron cases reported
(CNS): There were 466 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 reported on Thursday evening, as the Omicron variant is causing another surge in COVID-19 infections. From the latest positive cases, 41 were in travellers and the rest were due to community transmission, including ten new cases in the Sister Islands.

Twelfth person with COVID-19 dies
(CNS): Public Health officials have confirmed that a patient who was hospitalised with COVID-19 died Thursday. No further details of the individual have been confirmed but CNS has learned the woman was unvaccinated and had been admitted to the hospital as a result of COVID-19 and not other health issues.
