Maedac Supercenter gas station, the scene of attempted armed robbery on 16 May 2015

(CNS): A masked robber wielding a machete fled empty-handed on Saturday night after an attempted hold-up at the Maedac Supercenter gas station on Crewe Road. Employees reported seeing the armed masked man attempting to get into the store through the door, which was locked, and as a result the would-be robber fled on foot behind the store towards Edgewater Way. Maedac was robbed just two months ago, in March, by what may have been the same perpetrator.

Two liquor stores were also robbed by a machete-wielding masked man over the last few weeks, and in the two latest booze store hold-ups a masked man used a hand gun to scare staff into handing over cash.

Police were at the scene hunting for the villain but there have been no reports at this stage of any arrests.
