Boss and workers fined after WORC raids

WORC arrests three people for permit breaches
(CNS): During a recent enforcement operation by the Enforcement and Compliance Unit at Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman, three people were arrested for working outside the terms and conditions of their work permits. The workers were caught after the ECU and the police raided a number of bars in George Town and an air-conditioning firm.
Number of work permit holders exceeds 36,000
(CNS): There are currently 36,049 work permit holders in the Cayman Islands, another new record that is nevertheless increasing every day by around 12 new arrivals. The latest statistics released by Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC) on Friday show that the number of expatriate workers has increased by almost 1,900 since February.
Vaccine mandate for permit holders lifted
(CNS): The legal requirement for non-Caymanian residents and their dependents to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 has been lifted. From Friday, applicants for work permits (new and renewals), permanent residency, specialist caregiver certificates, student visas or Cabinet entry permits, as well as dependents no longer need to prove they are vaccinated, according to government officials.
WORC levied over $350k in fines last year
(CNS): Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC) levied administrative fines on individuals and companies amounting to CI$351,660 for 153 breaches of immigration laws in 2022. During the last three months of the year, there were 48 infractions and CI$82,690 worth of fines were doled out to rogue employers and workers.
