DVDL customer injured at inspection centre

DVDL at Breakers

 (CNS): A customer was taken for “medical assistance” on Tuesday morning following an undisclosed incident while the individual was at the Department of Vehicle and Driver’s Licensing Centre in Breakers getting a car inspected. Officials from the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure said they were aware that a customer was hurt and were now investigating, but gave no details of what had occurred.

“The safety and well-being of our employees and customers remains our priority,” officials said.

Meanwhile, the DVDL will be hoping that things go more smoothly tomorrow when the department is hosting a Customer Appreciation Day at all three locations (Crewe Road, West Bay and Breakers) to promote the various services available at DVDL, including online services, the customer support unit and private garages for inspections. Customers conducting transactions throughout the day will receive special giveaways and light refreshments.

    The problem is rarely the vehicle. It is 90%+ more likely due to the failure of the vehicle operator. My experience is that my car got hit by a drunk driver driving a brand new truck. His vehicle was tremendously roadworthy and off roadworthy for that matter but the operator decided since he had a big huge truck that he wouldn’t get hurt and decided to drive drunk.

    Lived in cayman for 15 years, from the UK originally. The DVLA here is still beyond 1970s UK standards,

    At least they have learned lessons, I understand that a 50mph limit has been imposed on the vehicle inspectors when they road test the vehicles.

    In Alberta Canada, where I am from, they have privatized this process with registered agents (that are periodically inspected, including “silent shopper” undercover inspections).

    Registered agents compete on efficiency and customer service and experience for a small fee. Those that dont want to pay a service fee can go to the government service.

      You can get your vehicle inspected privately here at some authorised garages. Some will even go to DVDL for you as well for a fee. Otherwise you still need to go license unless you do it online.

    We just haven’t learned to place our skill sets where they would give maximum return.

    Just imagine the benefits if we put DVDL in charge of inflation and development.

    Judging by the state of vehicles on our roads why do we even have a vehicle inspection process. Obviously something isn’t working.

    Have to say that getting inspected and licensed at Breakers last week was a breath of fresh air compared to Crewe Road. Friendly and prompt service, in and out in 15 minutes.

    I do however shudder at the thought that I have to go to Crewe Road to pick up my white plates.

      I have literally walked out of Crew Road and driven to Breakers. It may not be any faster (including the drive both ways) but it was sure a lot easier/relaxed (again including the drive).

      While unknown at this stage, a potential hazard is getting out of your car while over the inspection pit & walking either behind of or in front of your car.

    I spent exactly 2 hours there last week. Why? It started to rain in GT and that location was sending all the vehicles to Breakers – where there was only 1 inspector.

    I must say, he did a phenomenal job of juggling the inspections and paperwork. While I did not enjoy spending unnecessary time there, I had to respect the inspector’s actions, he was trying his best.

    I was once in line just to get my car inspected for 45 minutes. The carbon monoxide from all the cars almost killed me.

    Possibly the worst service on the planet, and then people wonder why folk drive around with no license and back taxes owed. The biggest deterrent is having to deal with the people that work at DVDL. Why aren’t these people embarrassed about the public perception of them?

      Do you suppose that the people working at the Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing might all be relatives and/or bosom buddies of people in government? Our government seems to have problems in other departments just as well.

    If they’re talking about mental anguish kinds of injuries, then there’s nothing to see here. It’s just another day at the DVDL. Where your valuable time is regularly wasted.

    Was it the waiting times that meant he/she had aged 10 years whilst waiting for the most simplest of tasks to be performed and during that waiting time deep vein thrombosis symptoms had developed?
