Another major leap in Omicron cases reported
(CNS): There were 466 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 reported on Thursday evening, as the Omicron variant is causing another surge in COVID-19 infections. From the latest positive cases, 41 were in travellers and the rest were due to community transmission, including ten new cases in the Sister Islands.
Air Canada cancels rest of winter flights to Caribbean
(CNS): Air Canada is suspending more than a dozen routes to the Caribbean, including to the Cayman Islands, following new regulations in response to the surge in the spread of SARS-CoV-2 in Canada. According to a travel advisory from the airline, the “sun destination” flights will stop from 24 January until 30 April.

(CNS): Noel Cayasso-Smith, the founder of the Cayman LGBTQ Foundation, is calling on legislators to introduce hate crime legislation, not just to protect members of the community his organisation represents but all vulnerable groups who could be targeted because of who they are.

(CNS): Concerns are mounting over a woman suffering mental health issues who has been protesting for months about what she believes is her mistreatment at the hands of local psychiatrists. Early morning road crash claims first life of 2022
(CNS): One man is dead and a woman is seriously injured following a single-vehicle collision on the Esterley Tibbetts Highway this morning. The smash happened around 1:00am at the Cost-U-Less roundabout. A white sedan travelling north came off the road and slammed into the concrete sculpture on the roundabout circle.
