(CNS): Police are investigating yet another early morning robbery, this one at a restaurant off Laurence Boulevard off Seven Mile Beach at around 1:20 Thursday morning. Two armed men made off with an undisclosed quantity of cash, police said, though they have not said which one of the late-night food huts in the busy tourist area was targeted.

The two robbers, armed with guns, demanded cash from the register at the location and were said to have made off in a vehicle towards the West Bay Road.

Armed officers conducted searches, and a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident was recovered as evidence. Further checks were made, but the perpetrators were not located.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or the website. Tips can also be submitted to caymancrimestoppers.com. A reward of up to $50000 is available for tips which lead to a charge for gun-related crimes.

Anyone with information about a robbery at an undisclosed location, please contact the RCIPS. ??? Can we buy a vowel? Is there a prize for guessing the location?

Did you happen to see multiple robberies on Lawrence Boulevard Thursday morning and are confused about which one to share information about?

Or perhaps just complaining for the sake of complaining?

I’m highly critical of RCIPS, particularly their traffic ‘policing’, but can we stop with this dumb “400 cops…this shouldn’t happen” stupidity?.

In terms of frontline responders, at that time on a Thursday morning, I bet there’s less than 30 officers covering the entirety of GC. The idiots robbing fast food places will know this too. Those 30 will have breaks, calls for service, and within GT alone there’s only going to be about 10, and that’s from Cost u less to Spotts.

There are over 400 full-time cops. It’s just a fact. We’d be lucky if there were a handful of marked vehicles on the road at noon on any day. It’s very hard to reconcile the payroll with the mobilised deference it’s bought. It is a genuine struggle.

Yes, but idiots assume we have some magic 400 officers always in uniform and ready to roll anywhere at any time. If there’s a call for a robbery, it will be responded to quickly. The fact is, you can disappear into the ether in 2 minutes from that area. WB, GT, the beach are all places they could head.

But where are they all? I barely ever see them.

After midnight, the GT police HQ main line bounces around to whoever remains. If someone answers (and they don’t always bother), they’ll often tell you to call 9-1-1 dispatch instead, and explain your concern, even if it’s not an emergency. Knowing this, I would not want to be an owner of any cash-based business operating after 6pm in the Cayman Islands. Don’t tell anyone I said that though.

400+ full time cops, but never one on shift or in the hotel tourism zone when you need them. We should never be more than a couple minutes from multiple vehicle police response. We have enough of them on the payroll to have a car stationed every quarter mile.

that’s embarrassing. one of the most policed municipalities in Miami has 200 officers for a resident population of 50k. it is so heavily patrolled that you don’t even think about speeding when driving through. if cayman really has 400 officers for a population of under 100k and that level of crime is happening, it’s shameful.

But that’s probably in a grid system, with a higher density of inhabitants.

Policing in the USA cannot be compared with many places. They also have about 10 layers of law enforcement.

Not really. I more than acknowledge the failings. North Yorkshire police cover a massive area with a small number of officers, should we compare that? no, it’s a ridiculous comparison. So why should somewhere in Florida be compared? the laws and policing policies and ethos are different.
