Two vaccinated travellers to date positive for COVID-19

| 30/04/2021 | 87 Comments

(CNS): According to information supplied by Public Health, up to 22 April, 211 travellers have been both vaccinated and provided a negative test on arrival, which enabled them to take advantage of the reduced ten-day quarantine or isolation option since it was introduced. But officials said two travellers so far have tested positive, albeit weakly, for the virus after receiving their vaccination courses abroad and not in the Cayman Islands. In each case the individuals were required to quarantine for the full 14-day period.

Meanwhile, one more traveller tested positive for the virus among the results released Friday and is now isolation. There are now just fifteen active cases of the virus among the more than 600 people in quarantine, only one of whom has symptoms. This is one of the lowest numbers of current cases since Cayman began its phased border reopening.

The vaccination programme remains stalled, however, with 55% of the population having had a first shot. Just 215 people have been vaccinated since the last figures were released on Tuesday following the closure of the clinic Wednesday.

And in another story outlining the consequences of lax quarantine requirements…

    From the Guardian

“Trinidad and Tobago is tightening lockdown restrictions for three weeks starting at midnight as the number of new Covid-19 cases hits record highs and the islands face a potential shortage of hospital beds, Reuters reports.”

*CNS: Here’s a link to the Reuters article.

Billions have been spent worldwide on covid boosters…yet science did not make many steps forward in preventing , diagnosing and treating cancers, neurological and vestibular conditions, as many others . . In fact, every week or so a new disease/syndrome is being identified. Medicine is eagerly moving towards a telemedicine and many believe it is a good thing. Physical examination of a patient is a history. Even during telemedicine session a doctor types staring into his computer hardly glancing at a patient. Doctors have become merely technicians interpreting scans and lab results that were already interpreted by somebody else.

IS THIS kind of “health care” you want to have in your future? I hope I am wrong, but covid trials guinea pigs would learn it a hard way. I know many nice people who did voluntarily submit themselves to clinical trials. I’d hate to see them suffer.

Vaccinated people can still transmit the virus although the transmission rate for vaccinated people is almost certainly much lower than non-vaccinated people.

The incubation period for both vaccinated and non-vaccinated people is 14 days. Therefore if we want to keep the virus out we cannot reduce the quarantine period. If we do we are just playing Russian roulette.

    • Anonymous says:

Technically true: in Canada, the instance of fully vaccinated air travelers testing positive on arrival is a statistically unremarkable 0.025% and that rate includes the lesser mess-market Sputnik V, Covaxin, Covashield, and Sinovac. It’s almost nothing. All the vaccines provide robust immune recognition, even against VOCs.

      • Anonymous says:

The Canadian data is technically true but omits those testing positive days after arrival. The 2 in the CNS report also tested negative on arrival but positive 10 days later part way through the incubation period.

How many vaccinated people who are also shedding the virus does it take to cause local spread if they are released into the community? My guess is 1.

    • Anonymous says:

Agreed – how many arriving people shedding the virus, whether vaccinated or not, does it take to trip off large scale local transmission. The answer is only 1. We should be doing what we can to make sure that does not happen.

We can read too. And our sources of information differ from yours. We even translate research/studies if it is written in a foreign to us languages. We omit BigPharma, CDS and mainstream media reports and conclusions.

*CNS: The blanket dismissal of official sources and MSM is just silly and is usually an excuse to latch onto the latest quackery from some obscure scientist outside the bounds of his or her level of expertise or at least contrary to the overwhelming consensus of experts, rushing to make a name for themselves by pandering to the anti-vax or anti-mask or anti-whatevertheyaretellingustodo mob. Remember the two Bakersfield doctors who made a big splash in April 2020 when they called a press conference to say covid was no worse than the flu? We don’t hear from them anymore. But they sure sounded good and used lots of bogus stats.

In the UK people tend to trust the NHS because it is not profit based. NHS info is here. Since the vaccination rollout, cases, hospitalisations and deaths in the UK have plummeted. Trying to argue with the stats, which are remarkable, is madness.

Do you have any idea how microscopically small and inactive-by-itself the vaccine is? All these vaccines are, are things that look enough to your immune system like the SARS-CoV-2 virus, so your immune system can learn to fight it. Even if the vaccines are technically “experimental” because we can’t wait years to be absolutely 1000% sure about them, the active contents of a vaccine shot, if they were bad for your body, could be cleaned up in a flash. In fact, that’s what happens – and how your body becomes ready for the real thing. It’s that simple.

Weakly positive? Can we get a definition on that please.

Also CNS was that two travelers that had negative tests to get on the plane who tested positive on arrival or tested positive at the end of their 10-day. There seems to be some confusion around this.

        • Guido Marsupio says:

They are not measuring viral load, though. They are doing PCR, so “weakly” is a function of the number of cycles required to get a positive. You can check out the Wikipedia entry on PCR and make your own judgment on how many cycles should be run before they stop and declare the sample to be a negative.

Vaccinated, negative 72 hr prior, negative on arrival, then weakly positive at day 10? I would be concerned more about the validity of that “weakly positive” result.

Wishful thinking- the incubation period in vaccinated people is up to 14 days same as everyone else.

It is ridiculous to think that we can negotiate shorter quarantine periods with a virus

    • Anonymous says:

It is a very common practice here in Canada to not retest a person that has tested positive.
It is known now that the positive result can linger as long as 3-4 months.
Communicability of disease after 2 weeks is low and certainly if this person was vaccinated and had a weak positive test , this clinical situation points to a PREVIOUS infection.

  10. Anonymous says:

It’s time to reduce the quarantine period for those showing proof of vaccination, to 5 days or even zero.

Those who have not been vaccinated should quarantine for the full 14 day period. Then you will see a rise in the numbers of people approaching for a vaccine.

It’s time to start making these moves, before the general populace start getting restless.

I’m increasingly worried that 40% of our population might ignorantly pass on the opportunity to make all of us both physically and economically safer when we try to fully reopen. This is the best chance we have to do this right without unnecessarily killing our most vulnerable (and sometimes even children and those who have no predispositions). We have the preventative vaccine on hand, but it expires in June. The UK won’t send us more if we waste it while they and many others are still in great want of it. Come on people, get with the program and save lives, perhaps your own! Herd immunity through vaccination is how the whole world will snuff out this pandemic and get back to normal. We have this chance to be among the first, just like we were among the few to eliminate its spread through effective isolation. Covid has already miserably killed close to 1 in 150 Americans who caught it. The jab has killed nearly zero in close to 1 Billion people who’ve taken it. Please consider your loved ones and take the little jab while you can!

      • Anonymous says:

The Pfizer vaccine is currently 2 jabs. The 3rd jab is not yet confirmed. You are correct it may be possible its needed but it’s not known just yet. Even if you do need a 3rd shot it would likely be a year after your second shot.

    • Anonymous says:

When you say the ‘jab’ has killed nearly zero, are you including the thousands of previously healthy people who have been killed? How about the many thousands of people who have been injured, official reported cases.
It only ever claimed to reduce the symptoms of the person who took it, nothing else, so please stop bullying others into being part of a medical trial against their will.

*CNS: Oh yes, those “official reported cases”. Since you don’t say, I’m guessing this is a reference to the latest Facebook BS. Fact Check-VAERS data does not prove thousands died from receiving COVID-19 vaccines

The main symptom that the vaccine claims to prevent is dying. Also not being able to breath. As a bonus, it goes a long way to stop people spreading it.

  17. Anonymous says:

So before the anti vax idiots come here saying “see, the vaccine doesn’t even work” let’s look at why breakthrough cases happen.

The vaccine is 95% effective and some will still get the virus, this is expected. Vaccinated people can still be carriers and the virus can still infect them. However, the body knows how to fight it when fully vaccinated. This allows the body to shut it down quickly before it gets the chance to replicate to a point it can cause COVID-19.

Remember, the RT-PCR only looks for the virus, it does not diagnose you with the disease the virus causes; COVID-19. This is why the RT-PCR tests will still find fully vaccinated people positive for the detection of SARS-COV-2. This comes down to viral load within the body. Being vaccinated substantially reduced viral load as the body will begin to fight the virus immediately. Therefore, if you get infected with the virus, the chances of developing COVID-19 are greatly reduced making you less infectious to other people and unlikely to have any ill effects yourself.

      • Anonymous says:

glad you touched on the liability protection. People seem to forget, or purposely ignore that all of this is a trial. All who were overrun with fear and chose to get the vaccine have signed themselves up to be the test subjects. If any side effects develop from the vaccine in the next 2-5 years, do you think that you can hold anyone responsible? Do you think anything will happen when you say “well the government told me to do it, they will help”. All those celebrities, government representatives and members of the public trying to guilt trip you into taking the vaccine right now will turn their back on you should anything happen because of it. Each individual is responsible for their own health and I’m comfortable in saying most of us who don’t want to take the vaccine have concerns about it and given it some thought.

People who write Compass articles are idiots. No way an experimental shot could be forced upon people so they could keep or apply for a job. So there’s nothing to debate about, other than messing with people’s minds. I recommend Compass stop assuming that its readers are fools and employe qualified staff.

The vaccine trial will end in 2023, and if fully approved, total immunity from liability removed, then and only then people might feel more comfortable getting it. Still mandatory shots can’t be forced upon people without employers liability for injuries and deaths.

What is weakly positive? This is a very important distinction as we try to progress through covid. If this test was really negative, repprting a positive vaccination case negatively impacts the whole vaccination effort, and ultimately border opening.
Even if postive, data suggests an extremely low transmission rate, much lower than an unvaccinated postive.
We need to embrace measures to move forward not look for irrational arguments to maintain restrictive measures.

The fact that 2 vaccinated travelers tested negative on arrival but positive at 10 days is further evidence of the need to maintain quarantine.

I do not know if these 2 were infectious at any point in time but we cannot afford to be releasing potentially infectious people into our not particularly well vaccinated population. As Bermuda has discovered, a tiny number of infectious people being allowed to mix with the population can result in many hospitalizations and deaths.
