Scene of stabbing on 31 August

(CNS): A man is currently in hospital being treated for life-threatening injuries after he was stabbed multiple times during a fight Monday afternoon. The man was reportedly found at an open lot on Sound Way, George Town, at about 5pm but it is not clear where the stabbing actually took place. The victim and his assailant are said to be known to each other though police have not yet made any arrests.

In a release about the stabbing, police said that the suspect left the scene before officers arrived at the location. The victim was taken by ambulance to the hospital with serious injuries, though he is now said to be stable.

The incident follows the murder of another man in The Strand Shopping Centre car park at the weekend after he was also stabbed in a violent altercation.

This latest violent incident is now under investigation by George Town CID and anyone with any information is asked to call 949-4222.

What do you expect would happen with so many unemployed workers?

Crime will go up with the stress level in the community of people in destitute situations. More incidences of substance abuse, domestic violence, and violent crimes.

Government has given no plan to retrain displaced workers from Covid and no financial regulations in place to keep people from losing their homes to the banks.

No plan to stimulate sectors that are still thriving like the financial sector which employs hundreds of administrative staff and could expand more. No vocational training for people to enter into trade work or grants for certifications.

Real solutions are needed to keep or community strong and give people purpose and hope.

Those who feel it know it and those who are like a well paid postal worker sitting at home does not.

This is a great comment, not sure who the fantasists are who have clicked the dislike button.

Except this does not appear to be an economic crime. Your comment is well found in relation to crimes like burglary or even muggings, but the victim and the assailant being known to each other suggests other motivation, as is apparently the case with the Lillies stabbing.

I agree, the 10.01 comment is just silly. To blame this sort of crime on the Government’s response to COVID makes it sound as if Cayman has just started to have these issues. We have had gang-related shootings and stabbings for well over a decade, long before you ever heard of ‘Covid 19’. Be honest 10.01 – do you really think these thugs are stabbing each other in car parks at 3am because they’re worried about their mortgage payments and banks repossessing their homes?

Sounds like it was fueled by alcohol which is legal.

These people will always be unemployable thugs. You are an apologist for shitty behaviour. Call it like it is – BAD PARENTING OR LACK THEROF

Oh please- been unemployed a number of times and worried about paying my mortgage, but never once carried a knife or committed a violent crime. Instead, I swallowed my pride and got 2-3 jobs that I really felt were “below me” and gratefully worked them until something better came along to support my family.

10.01pm Which Financial institution is thriving may I ask. All their jobs have gone or are going to Halifax.

Did you just say “unemployed workers” ?

What’s wrong with all these pussies. Why are people wondering around carrying weapons, cowards. Sort your $hit out the old fashioned way. Good old fashioned punch up, kiss and make up then grab a beer together. Pricks.

People die in brawls too. Many cases where someone is sucker punched, hit head on the way down, bleed on the brain, dead.

How about, don’t be an obnoxious twat to others??

Apparently it was the tourists keeping things civilized around here.

    • poundland says:

Well yeah…these kids had plenty of business to divide between them when tourists were around to buy their herbs and spices. Now they are all sharing a much smaller pie so some tensions are bound to boil over….it’s always economics my dear boy.

The car park next to Reflections was getting more like a shanty town every day.
The do nothing RCIPS should have nipped this in the bud to start with.
Well Supt Ebanks lets see if you will actually do anything or be like your invisible predecessor.
    Hmm where’s my paintbrush….

Men prone to violence are such dickwads.

Seriously, sort yourselves out if you think punching, kicking, stabbing or shooting someone is going to help a situation.

Legalize drugs and use some of the money for community projects to reach out to the next generation…… then these thugs will be out of the war.

So, Minister’s Association, where are all your activists now? Resting after their exhausting efforts to prevent two people of the same sex in love having equal rights under the law?? Mr Eden? Mr Saunders? Mr Suckoo? Arden? Bernie and Eugene?

Pipe down. It happened less than 48 hours ago. And do understand, outside of the bible thumpers there are other people who do not agree with the lifestyle. What’s your plan of action to attack them ?

      • Anonymous says:

So, since it happened less than 48 hours ago as you say, we can eventually expect a response from the Minister’s Association?

By the way, what did you mean by “the lifestyle”? Is your lifestyle heterosexual sex with someone of the opposite sex? Is that the “lifestyle” you have chosen, 6:21?

This place is a petting zoo compared to the jungle up north. Go live in Portland or Chicago and tell me how you like it.

        You are uninformed.

Intentional homicide victims per 100,000 inhabitants. From UNODC.:

        Cayman Islands 8.45
        United States 4.96

Intentional homicides are more than twice as frequent in Cayman than in the US.

Ive lived in both those places and they are wonderful. Also, don’t compare us to them considering we are a population of about .05% of theirs.

        • Anonymous says:

Really? Yes. His or her point is that in such a small population one or two murders will skew the figures significantly.

One or two idiots waging war on one another because they looked at someone funny, does not make for an unsafe territory.

          • Anonymous says:

I think I would view Sound Way after dark, Lillies parking lot at chucking out time or certain bars in Dump Road or West Bay as unsafe territory irrespective of the per capita murder and violent assault rate. In the same way that, using the original posters comparison, the violent assault rate in the Southside of Chicago or at a Trump or BLM rally in Portland is probably considerably more dangerous than the average statistics there.

How many cities in America besides Portland and Chicago?

        • Anonymous says:

Plus in america the chances of you dying by a bullet are more greater than you dying in a car accident.

      • Anonymous says:

I live up north and my neighborhood has never had a stabbing let alone two in 48 hours. It all depends if you live in a major city or live rural up north. Everywhere isn’t like you see on CNN.
