Ex-PPM candidate backs ‘honest’ Miller

(CNS): Edward Chisholm, who ran on the Progressives ticket in 2017, has given a resounding endorsement to the man who was his opponent in the North Side election last time because, he said, Ezzard Miller is the one candidate that the whole country needs.

At a political yard meeting under a seagrape tree on a beautiful North Side beach on Thursday evening, Chisholm called Miller the most honest politician serving in the House — “sometimes brutally honest” — and urged the people of North Side to vote for for the incumbent, with whom he will be working for the next four years with a view to run for the seat himself in 2021.

“Consistently I hear the one person in Parliament that is honest and speaking for the people is Mr Miller,” Chisholm said. “I sought a seat at the last election but this time I decided that Mr Miller is the candidate that not just North Side but the country needs.”

Chisholm, whose mother, the late Edna Moyle, was a founding member of the PPM and served as speaker during the 2005-2009 PPM government, carried 23% of the vote in the four-way race in 2017.

But this time he has been campaigning for Miller, who explained at the meeting that if he is returned to office, he will work alongside Chisholm over the next four years to pass on his experience as an MP to the younger man. Miller said he will be 70 in July and wanted to teach Chisholm everything he knows.

During the meeting he told voters that being a representative was not a little part time job, as some candidates running against him believe. He urged voters to think hard about who they elect because it needed someone who was experienced and able to work hard.

Noting his concerns about corruption, Miller railed against his critics as he outlined how much wrongdoing he had exposed as chairman of the Public Accounts Committees chair, even though he was not able to arrest anyone. He warned that corruption was one of the most pervasive problems in Cayman and was undermining the rule of law and the implementation of policy.

Miller said he had been in conversation with a number of solid independents campaigning in other constituencies who he believes will, between them, be able to form a government if they are elected.

He said he was supporting Wayne Panton and his Community Creates Country group as well as Arden McLean and his small team. Miller also gave his support to Katherine Ebanks-Wilks, André Ebanks and Mario Ebanks in West Bay, as well as Johann Moxam and Sammy Jackson in George Town. He said that among those candidates were several experienced politicians as well as talented newcomers.

While the ‘coalition of the willing’, as it has now been dubbed, has not been formally announced, it is becoming apparent from the various public meetings that it is taking shape and that before the elections it will be clear which independents will be cooperating in opposition to the PPM line-up, which now consists of eight party members and four Alliance candidates.

Well aware that he is in a difficult race in North Side, despite his national popularity, Miller said he was increasingly confident that he would retain his seat. But he was not taking things for granted and would be working to the end, he said, as he urged his supporters to help him over the line and continue the fight against corrupt politics which is being fuelled indirectly by big business.

So proud of you Ed. Your Mom is mailing down on you. She would be so unhappy to see the way the PPM has become. Unlike all of the women currently in Parliament who would stand up and be counted for women and condemn the evil act and criminal conviction of Mckeeva, she would have stood up and resigned her seat from the party just like you have left them.

Don’t let anyone put you down because you choose to stand for what is right.

Why don’t these pro-transparency/good governance opponents sign-off on the report to SIPL and Elections Office for vote buying? CC the governor’s office and the papers. Aren’t they gifting you a credible method to remove them from politics forever?!? Why the hesitation?

A vote for Ezzard is 4 more years of a divided community. Ezzard couldn’t keep the district council together. He is abrupt with his own people and does not value their opinion. As far as the honesty claim goes well he is spreading misinformation on the other 3 candidates. His excuse is that it’s part of the campaign. It is dishonesty. If you are resorting to this behavior to get re-elected then you are setting a bad precedent for Edward to follow. Let’s see how long Edward follows as Ezzard always wants his own way. This is simply a political strategy to get re-elected.

If you DON’T vote for Ezzard, we’ll have 4 years of the poisonous backroom dealing forever honorable as our Premier, bringing disgrace to his office and shame on Cayman.
Ezzard is the only one with the courage to stand up to him.

Good Job Ed, If you become Ezzard’s mentee, you stand a very good chance of getting elected. Your Mom would be so proud of you!

This North Sider and my entire family are so proud of you and we will vote for Ezzard this time and next time we will join him and support you to represent us in North Side.

The country needs honest MPs, not people who know how to sell ice in the North Pole. I hope the NS people stop to think that not every smooth talker is a hard worker. Miller really is their best option.

Ezzard is telling Edward the same speech he gave other aspiring candidates. It is rumored that PPM did not want Edward as their candidate hence he is now against them. Why did Edward run against Ezzard 4 years ago if the country needed Ezzard? What has changed?
Time will tell if Ezzard steps down in 4 years as we heard this song and dance before.
North Side voters don’t be fooled by this. Ezzard will not step down.

Anon 6:13 can you produce any evidence that Ezzard ever promised publicly to train and develop any one else in his political career.
If you believe Justin or Jay I have a bridge over the North Sound to sell you

Seriously, you couldn’t come with a better story than that.

School children in China would know that Ezzard doesn’t have any live or ambition to be a part of the PPM.

There are a few and even in North Side that are plants by the PPM but can’t speak truthfully about it because they are afraid they may not get any votes.

Watch what happens after the election, then you will know the whole truth.

You better hope Ezzard retains his seat! NS will be screwed with any of the other no-name candidates and the island NEEDS him as an MP to keep calling out corruption!
