Active COVID-19 cases rise as variant spreads
(CNS): Public Health officials said Tuesday that there are an estimated 522 active cases of COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands that have been officially reported, as concerns mount that the significant decline in community transmission earlier this month is now being reversed as the latest highly contagious Omicron BA.2 variant appears to be spreading.
There are still only three patients currently hospitalised for COVID-related causes and just under 100 people have reported positive for the virus over the last three days, including 44 on Monday.
The 7-day rolling average for 29 March is now 39 cases. The Sister Islands also noted two new cases yesterday, bringing the total there to date to 654. Overall, the Cayman Islands has recorded around 20,800 cases of the coronavirus to date since March 2020, though more than 20,000 of those have been recorded since last September.

The UK second booster is being made available immediately to those 75+, or with a weakened immune system. It will be released to other age groups in stages. Here is the NHS website with further information. In Cayman it is not being made available at all for reasons that have nothing to do with science or medicine.

The UK, the US, Bermuda, and some Canadian provinces have already authorized the second booster. I get that some people don’t want any vaccinations and that is there choice but for those of us at risk, I have to ask why PACT does not want us to stay healthy?

Not according to Public Health which put out a statement on 24 March to the effect that they were not releasing the second booster as they were doing a genome sequencing experiment to confirm that the new variant is here and is making people sick – which it obviously is.

Why are we not offering the second booster??? Are we trying to see if people here will also die without the second booster???

The BA2 variant is rapidly spreading everywhere on the planet and especially where our tourists come from. It is total idiocy for our Health Department to be doing genome sequencing experiments in order to prove the obvious. How about preventing illness instead?

What is newsworthy and deplorable is the ongoing refusal of Public Health to start offering the second booster to those at risk.
Believe it or not, they are actually doing you a favor as your natural immunity declines with each of the MRNA shots. If you keep taking additional boosters, you will be completely dependent upon them and have no natural defenses left. I hope you’re not good with that.
