Cayman residents celebrate getting their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine

(CNS): The pace of COVID-19 vaccine take-up continues to slow as the number of people who got their shot over the last day fell to just 122. According to the latest figures from public health, 35,429 people aged 16 and over, or 55% of the estimated full population, have now received at least one shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, with 46% of the population having completed the two-dose course. Meanwhile, with no scheduled flights over the last day there were no positive cases of the coronavirus in the daily test results. There are still 18 active cases of the virus among the 724 people in quarantine and isolation with just two people suffering symptoms.

So set the date for the border to reopen when the vaccines are due to expire. Anyone who hasn’t had the jab will feel since they can’t hear.

Make it a requirement for work permit renewals already.

While we are at it, make it a requirement for tourists, that wont reduce our appeal an iota.

The demographic that is refusing to take it in the states is not our market.

Make it a requirement for all unless you have a medical exemption.
or No medical insurance or government assistance if you get sick!

Why anyone on this island has been unable and unwilling to make it to the airport to get 2 pfizer abs by now, when we are so incredibly lucky to have the, is beyond belief. It really does show an astonishing lack of education, common sense and general ability to read and keep up on the news. Shocking but their loss – no travel and masks in all shops when we open if not vaccinated.

We need to stay closed for as long as possible if you want to travel go ahead no one is stopping you you think I’m putting something in my body that has been rushed to market it’s a reason vaccines normally take 3 to 5 years to be developed and distributed. I’m not taking it just so you can take your trip to Miami to shop lol it’s your choice to take it just like it’s my choice not to take it and if you think the government is going to just set a opening date and do away with the quarantine process you’re sadly mistaken I can assure you that won’t happen

    • Anonymous says:

Its called progress, a pandemic and a serious need for a vaccine is why it got approved so quickly. This vaccine, like other vaccines is proven to be safe to take as a prophylactic and effective against preventing and possibly transmitting this virus. There’s just too much “me” in this comment and not enough “we”. The more people that take the vaccine, the safer it will be for not only people to travel from here but to reopen tourism. I can assure you many Caymanians are greatly affected by the loss of tourism.

            • Anonymous says:

In percentages vaccinated, Texas and Florida are a bit lower than Cayman but consider the sheer number of persons in these two States! Texas is at 37.6% of population with at least one dose compared to 55% in Cayman. That is 10,915,947 persons compared to 35,429 persons. Apples to oranges.

Hell, the suburb I live in has more than twice the population of Cayman and my kids’ school district has as almost as many kids as Cayman’s whole population.

Comments of Bermuda’s Health Minister last night – to provide insight for the Covid deniers among us:

“I begin my remarks today by offering sincere condolences to everyone who has lost a family member, a friend, a neighbour or a colleague in circumstances related to the coronavirus. Recently we have had a number of deaths, and my heart goes out to everyone who has lost a loved one during this pandemic….

    There are currently 601 active cases, of which;

    · 570 are under public health monitoring and;

    · 31 are in the hospital, with eight (8) in critical care.

Since March 2020, Bermuda has recorded 2362 total confirmed cases of COVID-19; out of those, 1737 persons have recovered, and sadly, 24 persons have succumbed to COVID-19.”

    https://www.gov.bm/articles/covid-19-update-minister-healths-remarks-27-april-2021

As a result of the disastrous spread of Covid within the community, Bermuda is moving to a supervised 14 day quarantine at travelers expense. Seems like they learned something of best practices from Cayman in that regard.

You forgot to mention the facts and just want to scare monger, if you want to post than post all the facts!
There is NO 14 day requirement for vaccinated people see the below-

Immunised travellers are NOT required to wear a Traveller Wristband.

Immunised travellers with a negative pre-arrival test result must quarantine until receiving a negative arrival test result. Immunised resident travellers without a negative pre-arrival test result must quarantine until receiving a negative day 4 test result.

Once negative arrival or negative day 4 test results are received, the immunised traveller is not required to follow the 14 Day Travel Restrictions, and can carry out regular day-to-day activities. However, they will be required to test on day 4, day 8 and day 14, as outlined on the Immunised Travellers’ First 14 Days in Bermuda

    • Anonymous says:

On the contrary, we are the only place on Earth that is any semblance of “normal” because of our effective border controls.

Not so, Texas, Florida and a several other states are normal. No mask, no lockdown, no problems – wear a mask if you want, no one is going to take a baton to your head.

But please remember: You can avoid the CV, you can vaccinate against the CV, and you can be treated if you get CV – three rings of defense. Several immediate family members and many friends have had the CV -early treatment with ivermectin knocked the CV out in 3 days. Less than a cold. If everyone wasn’t so damn scared and looked at “the science” and I mean really looked at it – this would be protocol. Catching it isn’t a death sentence and it is really low with early treatment. Waiting for 3 days to seek help is not advisable. The moment you feel that you have either been exposed or feel ill – that is the exact moment to start the treatment. I know many people that I have had it, many that were treated early with minimal issues, and early in the pandemic – many who suffered miserably (not treated early). And a handful that regrettably died. All that I know died were in really bad shape that passed and at least one was a family relative. We should be learning from what the numbers show- not hanging a brass ring on just the vaccine.

    • Anonymous says:

We are probably the finest example of “not being in quarantine” that there is. That’s because our border is properly regulated, our travel isolation is also serving as an effective clinical barrier, and our people actually largely complied with earlier lockdown orders. How do residents not understand or appreciate how exceptional that hard work was? Leave if you want! Bon Voyage! We still have kids under 16, pregnant, allergic and elderly that are ineligible for vaccination. That means we need herd immunity of 75+% vaccine uptake here, plus vaccine passport for incoming vaccinated, and ONLY later once North America gets their act in gear….and no, we don’t have a date for that.

      • Anonymous says:

You must be one of those special cases. Elderly that are ineligible? What you on? Kids? What you on, kids are barley affected by the virus?

Did you know that the western world vaccines all target the Spike protein, but those manufactured way away over in the far east? They don’t, they are all full-protein inactivated and thus include the nucleocapsid portion…this wont mean anything to most of you, unless you read below…and you should:

The rush to get the vaccines out under emergency use authority will go down as one of the greatest criminally negligent moves in history and very few people research why this is so. Those already jabbed best not read this:

80% plus of the worlds population will never, ever get remotely ill with Covid19. It’s actually impossible for some 50% to get it at all due to natural T-Cell reactivity. (you won’t read this, but i did..copy and paste it, its not written by a tin foil nutter. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41590-020-00808-x.pdf )

Anyhow, it sums up how the virus works, the spike protein on its own is a pretty bad beast for sure. This is important for the vax lovers, wait for it:

The rush to make the vaccines has focused squarely on the SPIKE…note that while the “spike” facilitates entry into the cell there is evidence that it is, standing alone, pathological — that is, it causes disease in the human body without the rest of the virus. The nucleocapsid portion, (read the article) on the other hand, is the part that is responsible for replication; if it is tagged and the cell containing it is destroyed then viral replication is prevented even though penetration of the cell has occurred.

Bear with me, this is important – taken from that article, we see that SARS-CoV-2 T cell epitopes enabled detection of post-infectious T cell immunity in 100% of individuals convalescing from COVID-19 and revealed pre-existing T cell responses in 81% of unexposed individuals. In 100% of the persons who had and recovered from Covid-19 and 81% of those who have never had the virus a vaccine may well be worthless as they already have T-cell response

What does this mean? Well, it means you dont need the vax if you’re not t-cell vulnerable. (excuse the non medical terminology).

but its even worse, you’re taking a RUSHED VACCINE that is focused on the WRONG THING –

the vax’s all focus on the Spike. Not the replicant. The resistance isn’t to the spike, it’s almost-exclusively to the nucleocapsid portion of the virus among those with existing resistance; the largest set of reactions by far was to the nucleocapsid, not the spike. This is very strong evidence that it is that nucleocapsid reactivity that provides effective resistance to serious disease. The existing “vaccines” do not and cannot provide this since they encode only the spike.

And worse? Its harmful to you. yes, you who’ve been jabbed thinking its a good and necessary. It’s probably neither. Why?

Well – recognition of the nucleocapsid proteins is the difference between asymptomatic or mild infections and severe ones; the correlation is exact and yet exactly zero of the existing vaccines target anything other than the spike. You cannot build immunity to that which is not presented. With the spike now having evidence of direct pathology and in fact quite possibly being why serious organ damage and death occur with natural infection we have clearly gone down the wrong road with “warp speed” and in fact may have done irrevocable and severe harm to millions while failing to induce long-term nucleocapsid immune recognition which occurs via natural infection and is the key to turning a potential infection into a nuisance at worst.

Short-term prevention of “infection” among the 81% of those with existing T-cell recognition to the nucleocapsid proteins is not only stupid it is likely to kill people over the intermediate and longer term since those who are not vaccinated and get infected with partial resistance build additional and durable immunity via said low-symptom and asymptomatic infections which do not materially harm them and blocking that process is harmful, not helpful.

The point is, things done fast dont tend to be done at all well. This one is a biggy. Do your research.

    • Anonymous says:

Well that was a waste of a minute – but I suppose if anyone wants to see quasi-science, non-logic and scare tactics in action it might have some utility.

I understand the science and your argument but, the vax is the best option at the moment. Look at all the hospitals that are being overwhelmed by COVID patients.

      • Anonymous says:

        Hmm…short-term benefits vs.long-term consequences… seems no brainer.

As for the hospitals…most hospitals, in the US at least, were never overwhelmed, not last year and certainly not this year. My daughter works as a head nurse in a large US hospital.

Don’t bring India into this, for this country is probably the most unsanitary place in the world among overpopulated regions. FYI the essential principles of modern sewage treatment were incorporated in 2500 BC.

        • Anonymous says:

The long term effects of vaccines generally are 3 months. This is why they waited to release the vaccine. The mRNA technology is new, but it works in a similar way to conventional vaccines. The idea is to produce an antibody response. I read the article and I suggest other do as well. However, what you are not accounting for is viral load. The amount of spike protein created by the vaccine does not spread through all of the cells.

The spike protein created by the virus is quickly shut down by the immune system because it detects it to be a foreign substance. The protiens do linger but do not have the ability to replicate due to biology of cells and how mRNA works within a cell.

Its an interesting hypothesis, but it is just that; a hypothesis. The spike proteins created by the vaccine have no ability to damage cell structure in the way the actual virus can. This is simply due to viral load and the virus’ ability to replicate itself. The vaccine spike protein is unable to replicate. This allows the immune system to develop the antibodies needed to attack the spike protein of the SARS-COV-2 virus should it ever come in contact with it.

    Viruses, viruses…

What is interesting that Norovirus is easy to catch and very difficult to kill. It can last for weeks on a counter, on an elevator button or even on a doorknob. It can be spread almost anywhere people are in close contact with one another. Some people who catch norovirus can remain contagious for days or even weeks afterwards. Norovirus accounts for more than 20 million illnesses each year.

Each year millions of cruise ship passengers roam Grand Cayman streets. Many infected with Norovirus. Yet, no one was freaking out. While death is rare but remains as a risk especially for elderly or persons with weakened immune system. They say “ no long-term adverse health effects have been reported”, but who actually conducted studies to confirm that?

How many of you know that Epstein Barr Virus, one of the most common human viruses, has been implicated in the pathogenesis of Burkitt’s lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and lymphomas? 100% people with MS are positive for reactivated EBV? Name one doctor who PROPERLY (if at all) tests a chronically ill person or a person with cancer for EBV? There are no treatments that work by the way. So thousands if not more people get cancer each year because there is no EBV vaccine and treatments.

Where is your outrage? Where’s your demand for EBV vaccines? Treatments?

Why go nuts over Covid19, sacrifice young and healthy individuals to the experimental vaccines side effects, but ignore EBV for example?

As of today 149M covid positive cases reported. That is 2% of 7B Earth’s population. Meantime EBV infects more than 90% of the human population. In most cases it causes no illness and remains dormant until it re-activates.

Here is one of the points my comment included:

“If half of hospitalized cases develop anti-phospholipid antibodies, will some of those exposed to a vaccine develop them? Could a vaccine prevent someone from getting sick by conventional criteria but increase the risk of blood clots? It seems this should be monitored very carefully in the safety trials.”

This is exactly what is happening today, and it was, as you can see, predictable…

If insurance companies increased their co-pay premiums for non-vaccinated people to better reflect the potential cost of Covid arriving here I suspect that there would be more interest in vaccination.

Similarly if we made non-vaccinated people liable for the health care costs of people they infect then that might also be an incentive for vaccination.

I am not a fan of coercion but we need to do something. When, not if, the virus with its new mutations gets in, if the current level of vaccination continues our health system will be crushed and the economic and social costs will also destroy life as we know it.

I would like to see government lead a transparent discussion of both the incentive based and coercive options available. For opening options, in addition to making vaccination sites more accessible to locations and opening times, I suggest that we should expressly require employers to give paid time to employees wanting to get vaccinated and also enable employers to require vaccination as a condition of employment.

WHAT IS THE PFIZER-BIONTECH COVID-19 VACCINE?
The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine is an unapproved vaccine that may prevent COVID-19. There is no FDA-approved vaccine to prevent COVID-19.

Dr.Lee “forgot” to list the cons of the Covid immune boosters.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF THE PFIZER-BIONTECH COVID-19 VACCINE?
There is a remote chance that the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine could cause a severe allergic reaction. A severe allergic reaction would usually occur within a few minutes to one hour after getting a dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine. For this reason, your vaccination provider may ask you to stay at the place where you received your vaccine for monitoring after vaccination. Signs of a severe allergic reaction can include:
     Difficulty breathing
 Swelling of your face and throat
     A fast heartbeat
 A bad rash all over your body
     Dizziness and weakness
Side effects that have been reported with the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine include:
     severe allergic reactions
 non-severe allergic reactions such as rash, itching, hives, or swelling of the face
     injection site pain
     tiredness
     headache
     muscle pain
     chills
     joint pain
     fever
     injection site swelling
     injection site redness
     nausea
     feeling unwell
     swollen lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy)
     diarrhea
     vomiting
     arm pain
    3 Revised: 06 April 2021

These may not be all the possible side effects of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine. Serious and unexpected side effects may occur. Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine is still being studied in clinical trials.

India has done 22.6 MILLION vaccines and all theyve seen are cases and deaths go UP from their previous 99.98% non death rate. Go figure. Brazil also in top 5 countries to receive 11+ million vaccines and they’ve gone crazy now too. WEIRD

*CNS: You need to get off Facebook and find an actual news source. Try this Financial Times opinion piece: The tragedy of India’s second wave. Or National Geographic: Brazil once vaccinated 10 million people for polio in a day. What went wrong with COVID-19?

        Pay particular attention to:

Younger Brazilians are currently being hit the hardest, and experts suspect the P.1 variant, first discovered in Manaus, is at least partly to blame. According to the Brazilian Association of Intensive Care Medicine (Amib), 52 percent of the country’s ICU beds were occupied by patients aged 40 or younger in March, a 16.5 percent jump over the rate between December and February.

“Suddenly everything changed, and it was frightening to see the increase in cases and deaths, and especially the changes in the profile of the critically ill patients, who are now young,” says Carla Berger, a physician at a primary care health unit in the southern city of Porto Alegre. “I have kids who are 22 and 23, and I’m terrified they could be contaminated by me or my husband, who is also a doctor.”

There are potential side effects to any drug. However, vaccines have proven to be among the safest intervention medical science has. Vaccines have been proven to be safe. Recently, 20 years worth of vaccine safety studies were compiled that prove how safe these really are (source:https://www.ajmc.com/view/review-of-20-years-of-data-concludes-vaccines-are-remarkably-safe)

Vaccines are safer than most of the medications you take. Safer than high blood pressure medications and far safer than any routine surgery.

Just get the shot. It’s likely to cause you minimal discomfort and the risk to your health is far lower with the vaccine than actually contracting Covid-19. In addition, it also lowers the chance you could spread the virus to someone who won’t be able to fight it off as well as you maybe could.

    • We need to give thanks for people like you says:

Good, there might be a silver lining to your argument. We need some way of stemming overpopulation in Cayman and you and your supporters might just be our salvation.

    • Anonymous says:

The vaccine won’t prevent Covid-19, but it will lessen the damage caused by the virus when we all eventually catch it… Go get your vaccine.

      • Anonymous says:

        9:21….

Actually, evidence indicates it WILL prevent catching/transmitting Covid in addition to its previously known success in preventing moderate/severe symptoms.

With such a low level of uptake and more than 1/2 the population at risk it is time to think of measures to reduce risk. First up – no travel in or out of Cayman without vaccination (with exceptions for people with medical conditions that prevent safe vaccination.)

The economic, health and social costs of allowing the virus in, and in particular the new variants, is simply too high to not take additional steps to protect Cayman.

    • Anonymous says:

People need to take personal responsibility ESPECIALLY if high-risk. It is up to each of us to protect ourselves as best as possible and not depend on actions of others to protect us. Get your damn vaccines!

      • Anonymous says:

We had a chance to protect ourselves, but the weak-minded refuse to comply. Just think if this was Polio or Measles, now we will eventually suffer like India??

This won’t wake up the wackos (anti-vax) until they personally know someone who dies or suffers from Covid themselves. I’m so sad for this, but pray for wisdom and beg Cayman to get the vaccine.
the outbreak isn’t just a crisis for India – it’s a crisis for everyone.

“The virus doesn’t respect borders, or nationalities, or age, or sex or religion,” says Dr Soumya Swaminathan, the World Health Organization’s chief scientist.

“And what’s playing out in India now unfortunately has been played out in other countries.”

I know plenty of people who have had CV and a few that died from it. I ain’t taking the vaccine – least not yet. Call me crazy but I am glad some people are so scared of the CV that they will get the jab – I on the other hand am slightly more scared of the vaccine. I’ll give it a few more months – if those vaccinated don’t turn into zombies or start dropping like flies – then I will consider getting it. As I have touted in the past – Vit D is tremendously effective in warding off the CV.

How about you don’t have to get vaccinated but if you make that choice you need to cover the full cost of any medical care if you get infected if you have insurance through CINICO, that would cover a large number of CIG employees and others where the Gov’t is providing insurance cover because they can’t get a private plan.

Also I think there would be more uptake if they signaled a shorter quarantine of perhaps 5 days for the vaccinated, starting June 1st.

Finally if CIG says the border is opening with tests and 5-day quarantine eventually moving to no quarantine as the situation stabilizes in our tourist markets, I think people would strongly consider getting the shot.

We need a higher level of vaccination to protect the community as well as ease the economic suffering that many have felt with the border closed for over a year. We need a plan to open up more and get a critical mass of stay-over tourists back.

      • Anonymous says:

It does not make sense to throw science out the window in order to encourage people to get vaccinated. The quarantine period should be based on the incubation period of the virus in vaccinated people and nothing else.

It would make much more sense to simply say – no vaccine and no medical exemption from vaccination then – no crossing our border – either way

      • Anonymous says:

Who do you think is and has been covering the full cost of healthcare for non Cinico or Civil Service???

      Completely agree!

TCI and other islands have said no vaccine , no work permit.
when will we get with the plan!

    • Anonymous says:

Work permit holders are not the issue here.

      • Anonymous says:

Correct about work permit holders , but it is a start….if we can import safe labor and only worry about our local population, this in itself will prevent overcrowded hospitals and let’s face it, the cost of repatriation due to a Covid Death?

Cayman does not have the infrastructure to protect our low-wage imported workers- period. So if you want to work here, be part of the solution and not part of the problem = simple.

Work permit = vaccine. No vaccine, no work. I applaud any employer that refuses to re-sign a contract with anyone not vaccinated.

We insure school children get their vaccines to enter reception and our GT Hospital does a great job of keeping track of all children’s jabs, so why not adults and employees?

We are a small population. If you are an expat and refuse a jab, “see ya”

This may even help with putting Caymanians in jobs??? If I had the choice of a vaccinated local I would hire them!!

Consider this. With the ever rising cost of living and a pension restricted to $1000 a month which likely means my pension will far out live me due to its’ size, I am better off catching covid and dying. So no, I do not want the vaccination. I won’t be a spreader either, since I stay home and certainly cannot afford to travel anywhere. I know it sounds morbid, but this is the reality. Cayman has become a home for the rich only and the rich want to live long so they can enjoy their wealth.

    • Anonymous says:

That’s very sad! In the same boat with Pension but have had vaccination and do not wish or intend on dying soon from any virus and do not intend on staying inside for rest of my life no matter how much enjoy being home. Looking for job. Who does your grocery shoppinvy? Agree with last sentence. Do hope you are ok and if need of a friend, please talk because your post is quite upsetting.

BVI going to zero quarantine for vaccinated visitors who test negative on arrival and have a pre flight negative test from May 15. Grenada just gone to 2 days quarantine for vaccinated visitors. And we have gone to – 10 days.

    • Anonymous says:

Yup and BVI and Grenada GREED for tourism will result in Bermuda spike!!!! Yikes???

“According to Bermuda’s Ministry of Health, the territory reported triple-digit positive COVID-19 cases on Monday, comprising 108 positives over two days.”

Tiny population and 108 COVID cases in two days- wow…. we can risk this.

  31. Anonymous says:

Time for the Premier to address the country. Tell us the plan to increase the vaccination rate and utilise the vaccine that is here.

  32. Anonymous says:

We now have a new Minister of Health. What is the plan to educate and encourage people to get vaccinated? What is the plan to make vaccination more accessible? Clearly, the airport location has run its course. Move vaccinations to the districts or move to mobile vaccination facilities. Do something to get the numbers up before the virus arrives, and we follow other countries with low vaccination rates into a mess.

    • Seawood says:

Set the reopen Cayman date and continue to offer vaccinations.

You can’t push on a rope.

Push that rope or hang it around our necks.

BVI has gone for greed in Tourism which doesn’t even make sense going into low season? Cheap tourists bringing Covid, no thank you!

Can we stop estimating the population? There is no legitimate reason we do not know exactly how many people are here.

    • Anonymous says:

27/2@9:44pm – I agree. The reason, BS though it is, is because successive Govts during “usual” census cycles have failed to accurately conduct one or publish the results. There was some brief release the last time a census was conducted but it was soon “deprioritized” for Government’s benefits…. for obvious reasons.

      • Anonymous says:

They completely skipped the 2020 census and blamed it on Covid while in the same breath were giving themselves credit for making Cayman Covid-free. 🤦🏻‍♀️

    • Anonymous says:

There are legitimate reasons: laziness and incompetence. There’s just no acceptable reason.

Can’t afford to travel anyway. Even if I could I would t be taking it unless a firm opening date had been set.

Yes, who cares about the other people in Cayman who have been counting on the borders reopening to be able to see their families overseas.

    • Anonymous says:

We are all selfish. We are born selfish because we only have self to take care of. We see the world through “self”. I can’t see the world through your eyes

I can’t get sick enough to cure someone. I can’t get poor enough to make someone rich. I can’t worry enough to save the planet. So I will selfishly take care of myself first, so I could be useful to others.

put your oxygen mask on first,” before helping others. … Because if you run out of oxygen yourself, you can’t help anyone else with their oxygen mask.

I won’t drop my selfish desire to do what is best for me for your selfish desire to vaccinate me so you will be “protected”…for 6 months.

        • Anonymous says:

They’re already “protected” as theyve taken the vaccine.

But they need us to stop being selfish and take it too so that the borders can open for them to travel….out into a raging pandemic….and then bring it back in without quarantining because they got a vaccine…. that doesnt stop them catching or spreading the virus.

You just cant make this s#!+ up.
