Butterfield Bank, George Town

(CNS): Butterfield Bank closed just the 2nd floor of its downtown George Town branch* Wednesday for deep sanitizing after it received its first positive test for a member of staff during the ongoing coronavirus screen test programme. The employee, who is asymptomatic, has been sent home and is self-isolating with the support of the bank. According to Butterfield the 2nd floor will reopen tomorrow morning.

In a press release about what appears to be the first bank staff member to be positive, even though these front-line workers have been going to work throughout the shelter-in-place shutdown, Butterfield said that this person’s close colleagues were now isolating as well.

“Butterfield has a robust contact tracing process in place for directly identifying the limited number of potentially affected employees that may have been exposed. All identified team members have been sent home and excluded from work where they will remain in isolation for the next 14 days,” the release stated.

Management closed down the 2nd floor of the Butterfield Place location on Albert Panton Street for deep-cleaning, while the rest of the branch remained open, and plans to reopen it on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Camana Bay, Governor’s Square and Midtown Plaza branches all remain open today as the affected employee had no contact with any of these locations.

The bank said it had put in place strict split teams protocols across buildings and floors to minimise the possibility of the virus spreading among employees.

“The safety of our employees and customers remains our highest priority and the Bank continues to uphold various safety measures and protocols in order to keep everyone on-site safe,” the release stated.

*This article has been corrected. An earlier version erroneously stated that the whole George Town branch had closed on Wednesday and not just the second floor.

You all want to open to who? US citizens aren’t coming to sit in a room for 2 weeks then enjoy their vacation after that. Does that make any sense to you all yet? What about the jet it will run at a loss. Where is the money? You need to figure out something else to create money, more banks?

Not to worry. The test are not 100%. If they tested 100 turtles at the turtle farm some of them would be in self isolation but asymtomatic.

Random testing is happening. Stop the panic. 500-700 people will test positive. Maybe more.

So the bank or airport or a major grocery store will have a case or two. The people will be fine, we are all going to be fine. When this kind of announcement is for a small business… it will crush them.

Let’s just get back to work and hope the country does not crash completely because a nine year old has a runny nose.

Another false-positive? Again, what are Health Officer Lee’s credentials? What is the Special Envoy to Britain doing now that they are presumably released having tested negative twice from the deadly virus? What is going on? Why are we being suppressed? I am concerned about our collective future beyond 3 months.

You don’t need a bank. You have no money. Most people have money and need a bank. Most people are not excited about another positive case. Keep calm and move on. Please allow everyone to make their own choices about what they need or don’t need. Thank you.

A bit of an overreaction in my view.We will all get it eventually SO are we going to ” deep clean” and send everyone home every time someone turns up positive?

    Press release? 🙄

Coronavirus doesn’t live on surfaces long, norovirus does. Closing for deep sanitizing is an overkill, unless customers and employees customarily lick counters, pencils, doorknobs etc..

Deep cleaning is the only game in town. Don’t you remember how many contractors there were after Ivan?

🦠disinfecting products can present toxic dangers to the people who handle them
        🦠risk of accidental poisoning increases
🦠ingestion, inhalation of fumes represents the largest increase in exposure routes
🦠Too much cleanliness causing us to develop allergies, asthma, inflammatory

It is out there. So Dr. Lee is going to keep testing until 2025? Just open up the Country for business!!! So Government people that are still getting paid are telling us we cannot go to work. We want to go back to work. We do not want a hand out. No one has died. Can we just lock up the elderly and let us that are working go back to work!!!
