Ethics board urges integrity in political race
(CNS): With 50 candidates battling it out for the 19 seats in Parliament, the Commission for Standards in Public Life is urging all of them to “uphold high ethical standards of integrity throughout the election process and once appointed to office”. And they are asked to start by honestly updating and declaring their interests, assets, income and liabilities.
In a press release, the commission reminded candidates of the Nolan Principles, or the Seven Principles of Public Life, which are part of the Standards in Public Life Law. They are: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
“These principles are paramount in the decision-making process of the public’s interest and should be promoted and supported by all seeking public leadership within our Islands,” the commission stated.
CSPL also raised the need to develop a Parliamentary Code of Conduct and asked candidates to think about this code, which it wants the next government to implement at the earliest opportunity after the April national ballot.

This Unity regime, that openly claims (pre-election) that their port redevelopment ambitions are off-the-table, and with no consultation, or environmental considerations, quietly rezoned Hamburger Reef, the GT Marine Park and Mission Blue Hope Spot into an expansive “Port Anchorage Area”.
See Port (Amendment) Regulations 2021 (SL23 of 2021), with full rezoned area mapped on page 8.
Development and Planning Laws and Regs were also altered extensively on February 19, 2021, repealing 12 different sections…
…also please note that so-called “anti-corruption” Ezzard was in attendance for all of this.
People just write what they want to declare and it’s neverinvestaged and they know it
Juliana has not submitted a complete register of interests since, what looks like, 2019, where she declared no assets to declare. There are many others sitting on SAGCs with similar inadmissible registers of interest. You can’t run for office if you’re insolvent, or falsely testifying you own nothing, even joint ownership. Does anyone audit these records for false/incomplete attestations other than the SIPL Committee (we never hear from)?!?
Well said. This is a farce as will be the oversight by our now locally sourced election observer corps.
Mac has none of those principles. Never has and never will.
