Open season for COVID-19 vaccines
(CNS): From Monday 12 April, the COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Own Roberts International Airport (ORIA) will offer the first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine to everyone over the age of 16 at anytime, regardless of names, as the alphabet rotation is dropped. While photo ID with a date of birth is still required, people will no longer need to provide proof of residency rights, as visitors will now be able to take up the vaccine. As demand slows, health officials are seeking to ensure that none of the valuable COVID-19 inoculations are lost as the end of some stock shelf life approaches.
So far 31,459, or 48% of the estimated population, has received at least one shot, with 36% of the community having both, still well short of government’s 75-80% goal.
Operational hours at the ORIA COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic have been extended to better accommodate the public’s varying work schedules.
On Friday the HSA and Public Health will be hosting a vaccination drive at Camana Bay to encourage people under 24 to get a shot. Currently just 28% of those aged 16 to 30 have taken at least one shot, compared to 41% aged 30 to 40, 49% aged 40 to 50 and 71% aged 50 to 60.
Meanwhile, following the arrival of the British Airways flight Wednesday, another two people have tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the current number of people with active cases to 26, two of whom are showing symptoms.

No borders, no vaccine.
About time! and the ones’ traveling here who are testing positive have not received their vaccines so of course they will test positive as we keep allowing those without vaccinations to enter. I am aware that the vaccine is not 100% bullet proof but at least it will help with the virus mutating and spreading to someone who is vaccinated. If we would only allow those that are vaccinated to come to the island then we will notice the drop in cases upon arrival and be able to softly open even drop the quarantine to 3 to 5 days (I would personally prefer no quarantine) but for those that are still afraid of moving around the earth with other human beings I would accept a lower quarantine time. Folks at some point life has to move on, sorry but the bubble has to be popped. If you have not gotten vaccinated well that is your choice and need to understand that the doors to the boarders will OPEN so no crying about it and make sure you really take care of yourself (honestly). I get it some folks cannot get vaccinated and to those folks you will be fine just make sure you take vitamin D3, B12 and K2 if you can (consult your doctor) and follow the cleaning protocol…you will be fine.
Soon be time for booster shots.
Once the vaccines are used up, time to open the borders. By then everyone will have had their chance. Need to stop pandering to ignorance.
Not everyone fits the criteria of the Pfizer; some people are immune compromised, allergic, etc.
@2:13pm, you are correct but of the currently non-vaccinated in Cayman, I can guarantee that very few fit into that group. It is primarily those that have CHOSEN to not get it. I’m not faulting them for that decision, as it is their choice, but they don’t get to hold everybody else hostage.
Those without vaccines are responsible for using protective measures…..masks, social distancing, etc.
Instead of government continuing to be responsible for maintaining safety, it’s time for personal responsibility to take place.
Actually, many immune compromised persons are eligible for Pfizer…..including persons having chemo.
Finally light bulbs are coming on at the HSA.
Hoarding the vaccines and turning away people who were there ready, willing and able to get the their shot is the real reason why this has taken so long.
Closing for an hour and half over lunch when people could get away from work was totally asinine.
Not opening until 9am and closing at 5pm was also asinine. The only how anyone working 9-5 could get the vaccine would be if they came on Saturday. Saturdays they did the same thing as during the week with the lunch hours and closed even earlier at 3pm. To make things worse unless it was you surname day Saturday was of no use to you as well.
I guess when they saw that they had this large excess of vaccines and people couldn’t get there they finally decide to do what the people have been saying all along.
We have had the vaccine in good supply since early January and we should really have been much further ahead than we are now.
It’s very rare to find any mismanagement of any type during this Crisis and as a whole all depts have done amazing …but yes first come first served no restrictions should have been opened once the over 60s and vulnerable had taken up the vaccine ….we do need the majority of people vaccinated
In the Brac Govt. Workers are in stores eating anytime of the day, so they can get the Vaccine any time of the day they choose
