Wong’s lawyer raises allegations of perjury in traffic case
(CNS): Local attorney Dennis Brady, who has been representing the Deputy Chief Immigration Officer Gary Wong in a protracted careless driving case, asked the court for an adjournment at his client’s sentencing hearing this week, saying he believed he may have proof that one of the witnesses in the trial committed perjury. Wong was convicted last month of careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident in relation to a crash in December 2013. However, he avoided a DUI charge because there were questions over the process of the breath-test.
Ahead of the hearing to decide Wong’s fate, Brady told the court that he was in possession of a recording that possibly contains evidence relating to the trial, and asked for the case to be postponed until he could look into the potential evidence. Brady, who secured a delay until 24 October, has also appealed Wong’s convictions.
Wong was arrested in December 2013 after the Dodge Ram he was driving collided with a BMW on Shamrock Road. But he left the scene, claiming later he was unaware of the collision because at the time he was trying to retrieve his phone, which had slipped into the foot well, and thought he had hit a pothole in the road.
Maybe he hit that pothole with so much force that it knocked all the class, integrity and sense of shame out of him?
Gary is one of the most honest people I know.
You might want to reevaluate your circle of friends.
Not a chance. He’s getting a bad rap for a one time screw up. Leave the poor guy alone.
Nothing to see here, just another routine day at the civil service.
You missed a bit at the end. “just another routine day at the civil service in Absurdistan.”
Maybe he drank so much, got behind the wheel, took his eyes off the road, hit the “pothole”, then fled the scene, all because he was just trying to feed his family
“M’lud, I appear for this drunk who is trying everything he can to get off for his actions, as he is selfish and lacks any concept of integrity or class. In mitigation on sentence, my client has a high position of trust in a government department….”
The morally bankrupt should never be in a position of adjudicating the lives of others. He must be stripped of that authority and demoted or fired. His conduct, from the moment right after impact to now, clearly demonstrates he is unfit to hold that station.
Although I do not condone his actions, it is not hard for me to say that the same people pointing the finger at Gary Wong, are themselves living an immoral life. It is the kettle calling the pot black.
They are the kind that will smile in the man’s face and as he turns his back say all manner of evil. Yet they themselves are into stuff. Only God knows the heart and He alone will have the last say.
Though the finger pointers might not be heading a critical government agency that is riddled with corruption and criminality. Which is the point.
1.27pm – you are exactly the sort of apologist that has held back the Caribbean region for decades by making excuses in the face of unsuitable leaders in Government.
I have lost the little respect I had for Gary and since this case believe him to be quite unethical in his action during this accident. Rundown should have a field day with this one.
Rundown… quite apt.
Now are the powers that be convinced this many is unfit for his job? Absurdistan, anyone. Sorry seems to be the hardest word. Although, “no thanks I’ve had enough I’m driving” also seem to be pretty hard for him.
Remember, he also had his doctor testify that it was his Gastric Reflux and Fried Chicken that had blown him to 0.184…can we just fire this guy please?
Is this in addition to his client’s claim he didn’t realize he was in an accident?
Wong is Wong…..I mean wrong is wrong! you need to let this go and pay your price! Stop delaying the inevitable now come on!
To say he thought he only hit a pothole, and then for his lawyer to claim a witness committed perjury sounds like a case of the “pot” calling the kettle black.
Two wongs don’t make a right.
There becomes a point where people take responsibility for their actions ,at some stage of their lives. Even if you make a major mistake , taking responsibility for that error & accepting the consequences will make you a better person later. Otherwise, every morning when you look in the mirror after you wake up, you may not particularly like the face that stares back at you.
Totally agree with this, he should take the punishment and be quiet for next 50 years. he’s making it worse and looking desperate.
Look at the facts and his cowardly attempts to get away with his criminality. Shows he is unfit for the job he is in. Lacks basic integrity.
And there are many more in key positions with the same deficit
This man is married and has kids. He therefore get a perpetual pass. Think about all the incompetent idiots who use their spouse and chidren to get away with things. If you prosecute this man, you will be prosecuting all married men and women who are idiots, that would be a travesty to this “thing of ours”
Plenty of married-with-kids parents (of both sexes) get DUIs and have traffic accidents. Most admit their mistake and take their licks like everyone else.
Goto court, you will always hear the defendant claim he/she is married or has kids. An irrelevant fact that is used to given them an unearned advantage.
Something very wong with this case. Regardless who he is he should have been convicted of DUI. Now his lawyer trying to get him off totally. 2 sets of rules here. I hope they appeal and lose and he gets what he deserves.
What a coward. Have the police explained how they dropped the ball on the DUI?
Gary you are a drunkard and you should be ashamed of yourself
“Shame” is not in his vocabulary. The way he has behaved in this case shows that.
Face the music Dude!
Everyone said it is right , and Wrong is wrong . Maybe the Judge won’t change his/her mind .
Let’s not forget, this is the Deputy Chief Immigration Officer who was loaded, plowed into a car with such force as to crumple both vehicles, and then fled away without checking to see if he killed his victim. He’s somehow managed to differ the course of justice 13 times, got the DUI thrown out on a technicality, and is now trying to slither around to have the whole thing tossed. He certainly lacks the required trustworthiness and personal character to be holding such high office. I really hope they throw the book at him for his impudence!
Yeah, but he thought it was simply a pothole. Such a simple mistake to make. Literally, anybody smashed out of their skull could make the same error.
8.13pm And how many times did the prosecution get postponements. When a trial is postponed or delayed it can be at the request of either the prosecutor or defense lawyer, or even the court Admin.
8.13pm He is a good immigration officer.
Maybe but not a kind and sensitive human being.
Clearly not!
hmmmm I beg to differ! hes been in the job a long time but yes but good hmmm jury out on that one!
So why wasn’t this red herring raised at trial if it even exists.
This whole charade is just wong on so many levels.
