New Parliamentary Secretary Dwayne Seymour with Governor Martyn Roper, 1 December 2021

(CNS): Parliamentary Secretary Dwayne Seymour MP (BTE) was not breathalyzed last Friday night after he crashed into a CUC light pole on Shamrock Road in Prospect because the police officers who were sent to the scene did not suspect he had been drinking, the RCIPS has confirmed. Seymour was heading east when he collided with the utility pole at around 11pm. He was unhurt though his vehicle and the pole were damaged. No other cars were involved.

An RCIPS spokesperson said that the “collision involved material damages only with no injuries. There was no suspicion that the driver of the vehicle was intoxicated, therefore no arrests were made.”

Speaking to Cayman Marl Road over the weekend, Seymour said that he had come from his office and was tired.

Seymour, the health minister in the previous PPM-led administration, was in opposition until November last year when he crossed the floor to join the PACT Government. He was appointed as parliamentary secretary on 1 December, supporting the ministries of housing, labour and transport.

In parliament earlier this month, Seymour led a confidence motion in the government in response to the PPM’s no-confidence motion. But he was called out by former premier Sir Alden McLaughlin (RED) as the person who had been leading the charge to bring the PACT Government down. “I had multiple conversations with Dwayne Seymour,” McLaughlin said recently as the opposition pointed to disloyalty in the PACT ranks.

On the contrary, some police officers entrap and pull over drivers without ANY reasonable cause or suspicion of DUI claiming they were pulled over for false reasons and then arrested for suspicion of DUI. FACTS!

The words of the compass article on this made me laugh:

“Bodden Town East MP Dwayne Seymour escaped serious injury on Friday night when the car he was driving crashed into a CUC pole.”

It wasn’t Wayne, it was the car’s fault!

Are we calling “Dwayne”, “Wayne” now? Dwayne (BTE MP) and Wayne (Premier) are very similar names. It’s seems you using both to refer to Mr. Seymour.

And, yes, the car’s fault sounds quite ridiculous, if that’s how it was reported. Most pro-PACT media has downplayed this incident as insignificant, which it is not.

Congratulations, Mr. Seymour, as your idiotic antics have now produced over 300 comments on CNS. This is not something to be proud of now or ever.

This is not complimenting you on a job well done, but informing you that, once again, you have made a jackass of yourself for all of Cayman to see.

Hoping that you improve your future actions, Mr. Seymour, both for yourself and your family, as well as for the Cayman Islands, who you have often embarrassed, generally.

I thought all traffic accidents needed to have a breathalyser unless the car inhabitants were unavailable (in hospital)

picture assumes that Governor in agreement? Keep smiling Roper!!

Yep. And if they are in hospital the police should ask for blood analysis.

Politicians seemingly benefit from discretionary exemptions. When you count how many over the years you would be incredulous.

I’m going to suggest it’s not his / her fault and that they were intimidated into not following protocol.

Common knowledge tells us that the majority of cases where a vehicle leaves the road and collides with a light pole, will likely involve alcohol or some other traffic infraction. Add that the timing is 11pm on a Friday night and that probability undoubtedly increases. Add again that this same government just lowered the limit (the ink isn’t yet dry on the documents) and any Police Officer should breathalyze the driver. Heck, to ensure there is no appearance of using ones position and authority should have had the MP driver and the Premier insisting on it!

Oh, and since none of this happened the Commissioner of Police and the Governor should be leading the charge for an investigation!

The anti-corruption unit could look into this if they were not all suspended

Suspended? Not on your nelly. Moderated working arrangements I believe it’s called these days.

How many CNS comments does an issue take before the Governor issues a statement?

There was only one reason for Panton to “show up” at the scene and it wasn’t to check on the culprit’s wellbeing.

if someone ran into a light pole & damaged it on a Friday @11pm at night. As a police officer you shouldn’t look for suspicion to find out if the driver were intoxicated. As an a officer you should have utilized the breathalizer too find out if the driver were under the influence of alcohol. Maybe if it were a common little man from the streets had hit the light pole & damaged it or just a zig zag swirl or little over the speed limit. Without any hesitation maybe the breathalyzer would have been utilized even if the driver were able too ask the police officer/officers for a chance a break not too be arrested. And maybe if the officer/officers felt that the breathalyzer were not giving them the level of alcohol they wanted too see too get the opportunity to arrest the driver. Maybe they would have went too the extreme & used their posotion, power & authority too put the driver into the police vehicle and would have transported the driver too the hospital just too get a blood sample & get it tested for the suppose to be the results of the level of alcohol that suppose too be consumed by the driver. Maybe the law is made mostly to be enforced on the common little man on the streets & maybe the prison system is the same also
