(CNS): A security guard was taken to hospital after being attacked by a group of people wearing hoodies and masks around 2:30am on Wednesday, according to an RCIPS press release issued on Friday evening. The attackers took his phone and other personal items belonging to the guard, who was on duty at a commercial plaza on West Bay Road, just north of Snooze Lane, understood to be Seven Mile Shops.

EMS attended the scene, and the injured man was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police officers at the scene found that a jewellery store at the location had been broken into and items taken.

Police said they are aware of video footage circulating on social media that reveals four masked men carrying out that burglary and that both matters are currently under investigation.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact George Town CID at 949-4222. Anonymous tips regarding either incident can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or the website. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the Cayman Crime Stoppers website.

We had a break in 2 weeks ago by 4 guys on camera. It took the police 6 hours to come after the security company called them at 3:50 am, after that I called 911 at 7:15 am and at 7:45 am I was told twice they are on the way!! When the Policeman showed up at 10:40 I was told he was only told 10 minutes ago.
There you go!! Just like our Government third world!!

This is why we no longer spend thousands of dollars to visit a once upon a time paradise starting in 1985.

Whoever John at 2:10pm is, they have spoken a truth that you, anonymous at 7:05 pm, are really stupid to try to diminish their statement. Your attitude is a large part of the problem here.

@ J – Dude, give a rest. Foreigners (here and abroad) should take a look at their own home countries before bashing the Cayman Islands. Yes, we have a myriad of problems here, but I’d rather live here than in a country where the majority of people have no qualms about worshipping a felonious pathological liar and a charlatan. I’d rather live here than somewhere where every day citizens feel that they have to carry a firearm just to make it through the day.

Caymanistan insurgents strike again and what exactly is our Jamaican run and backed police forces doing about it. Protecting the brethren from crime and handing out light sentries and money making at Northward prison. This place is on a real mess eh?

Ask the crown. The crown owns and controls the entirety of Cayman’s system of supposed justice, including law enforcement, and/or the lack thereof.

When will landlords stop being CHEAP and light up the exterior areas of their premises with bright LED lights? Security cameras can’t help if the lighting is insufficient. Stop such incidents from occurring. I guess it will take someone who is attacked suing a landlord before they learn.

Stop victim blaming! Demand standards, no matter the lighting, the burglar bars, or state of inebriation. This shitshow is the full responsibility of our police, civil service and judicial system. They have abandoned all semblance of the standards that kept Cayman apart from the rest.

I use incandescent lamps and candles. Plus dirty electricity filters. My neurological condition is in remission, my heart rate is stable and I am finally able to sleep through the night. I turn Wi-Fi off for the night..

Please show us the video. Please don’t make me have to go to CMR to find it.

I think that metaphorically, “Snooze Lane” is well behind us. I also think I know when the problem began — just after Hurricane Ivan, when the creeps discovered that there was no serious response to armed robberies.

I think it’s a bell that can’t be unrung without serious and collective personal investment of the citizens; we can no longer just shake our heads sadly at the increasing pushes and changes to our once peaceful culture. We can’t just say that RCIPS aren’t doing their job, or that things are going to hell. We have to be involved, as partners with the RCIPS if ever want to halt this kind of crime.

It’s not about expats as much as it is about our acceptance of increasing levels of criminal behaviour, and our insistence that it’s not OUR problem, but that solely of the RCIPS. There are plenty of born Caymanian criminals. We have to stand up if we want to be heard.

Don’t worry everyone. The expensive security camera system, and machine readable license plates we paid millions for, mean the cops will identify these shits within no time. Our robust law enforcers will catch them and like other criminals, Justice is to be expected in 8 years.

The security guard will have all his injuries and treatments covered by his excellent health insurance. He will be compensated for the pain and suffering he has endured.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

We are all just sitting ducks. The police can’t be everywhere all of the time, but at the same time the powers that be refuse to allow people to adequately protect their lives and the lives of their families from the ever increasing levels of violence in our society.
