Police to seek shooting witnesses at crime scene
(CNS): Detectives investigating the latest gun-related violence along with uniform officers will be at The Strand plaza tonight (Friday) looking for potential witnesses to the shooting last weekend. Officers said they will be heading to the entertainment complex off the West Bay Road to speak to people there this evening who may have been present when a George Town man was shot at that location around 3am last Saturday.
Police said they are aware that there were a number of people present when the incident took place but very few have come forward to assist with the investigation.
A 31-year-old man from George Town received multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen. He was taken in a private car to the George Town hospital, where he is still being treated for the serious injuries he sustained.
Police said that as well as speaking to people about what they may have seen last weekend, they will also continue proactive patrols at nightclubs and other hotspot areas to discourage illegal activity and antisocial behaviour.
The public is being reminded to ensure that they conduct themselves in a manner that is within the law and to remain safe.

There were 2 shootings over this past spring break weekend in Miami and their mayor has put in a midnight curfew as a result. Compare and contrast that response to our countless Friday night shootings and stabbings at this specific address and our government just shrugs it off each time.
i have lots of dashcam footage of lots of crimes….why don’t the police want the footage?
Simple solution : make bar owner responsible for the actions of his customers.
They know the trouble makers.
what? forever? no matter where they go?????
Why have the cops announced they’re doing this? Stupidity of the highest magnitude. Morons, couldn’t organize the proverbial pi$$ up in a brewery.
It’s the same as when they announce that they will be policing drink driving for one weekend at a time –
They announce it to everyone before hand
They only actually police that thing if they’ve announced it ahead of time.
Just painful
In other words the police are hoping to find unicorns
Ask the owner of the bar for the security footage… oh wait they don’t do that??!!
Close lillies. Move it to their hood where they can shoot each other all they like if you want, but not in smb in a residential area full of traffic flow through,, law abiding caymanians, residents and tourists. If we are going to have a nightclub where people shoot and stab their rivals at 3am, stick it away from everyone in the middle of the island somewhere.
Or keep it at Vic’s like usual
These thugs don’t go to Lillie’s as they cant afford it. They sit in the parking lot and wait for people to come out so they can mingle. No one has ever been shot or stabbed in Lillie’s.
Lillies or District 6? You must be a kid still.
There’s been a lot of shootings and gun busts lately. RCIPS needs to start a task force to find out how these weapons are getting into the island.
Same way as Covid and Ganja. By boat, at night.
Ganja maybe, but not Covid!
10.45am We don’t need a Task force to figure that out. We all know they come in on drug boats from Jamaica. Yet their people think we are not supposed to critisise them and their bad behavior.
I’m sure “their people “ wouldn’t be coming unless “ your people “ wanted it. Ever heard of supply and demand?
can’t wait for the next episode of The First 168: Cayman Islands edition.
Lol
The First 48 years
The RCIPS have a duty to be on patrol in known problem areas and times, and that means at the Strand every Friday night/early Saturday morning, not just canvasing randoms to be witnesses in their latest whodunnit. We need to fire the people that don’t understand their sworn purpose to serve and protect the public.
Why are all of the wounded taken to the hospital by way of a private car? Friends and Good Samaritan’s I’m sure do not intend on tampering with a crime scene, but they do. Likewise if in the act of transport, they are not prepared to handle brain or spinal chord injuries that may lead to the death of their passenger. Despite the risk and without knowing who these people are, I am sure their response would be that by the time the police and/or ambulance arrived, their friend would have passed away.
Are we back to the Baine solution? The police know who the members of the “gangs” are and if they are left alone, they will eventually kill each other, so the police do not need to exert too much energy when dealing with these types of crimes.
Although I don’t buy the “gang” culture in Cayman being like the Bloods/Crypts, if you go back in Cayman’s history (prior to 1980’s), there has always been unrest, fighting and territorial disputes between West Bay and George Town. There was an occasional gun here and there but certainly not the automatic rifles that we see and hear about today.
If the police continue the Baine philosophy, don’t be surprised if innocent people get hurt or even killed. We have already put one little boy Jeremiah to rest simply because the shooter missed.
Please take these incidents seriously and protect and serve our communities.
It’s under 4 miles from the Strand to the hospital. At 3 in the morning I guess you can do that in under 5 minutes. Or you could call 911, wait for the operator to get your details and contact the hospital, and have the hospital send an ambulance, which would have to drive the same distance x 2. The victim would be in ER getting treatment before the ambulance even got to the parking lot.
“The public is being reminded to ensure that they conduct themselves in a manner that is within the law…”
What a load. Totally unserious. Totally meaningless.
Why don’t they say— the public is reminded that discharging firearms in public is absolutely forbidden and that violators will be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
surely there is CCTV at the Strand as this is a regular event?
Or on the road leading to the Strand. Or an automated license plate reader.
I know we paid millions for these things. WTF RCIP? Are you corrupt AND incompetent? Where is the disconnect? What exactly is the problem? Why do we seem to have almost none of the modern systems we need and have paid for?
So this is basically a memo for any persons who were present that night to stay away tonight so they won’t have to talk to the police? Seems as if the police are hoping no one will be around and they won’t have to do much for tonight’s shift. Ridiculous.
In other news, the bars and restaurants at the Strand are wondering why they are having the slowest night in years.
Laughable to announce this in advance.
Obviously cayman cant manage night clubs either internally or as a visitor to one.
Close them down or put proper measures in place before you open for the evening.
Spend some cash on scanners, doormen who are actually real doormen.
Police need to be visible at closing times ?
