Baby with COVID-19 admitted to hospital
(CNS): A baby under the age of one has been hospitalised with COVID-19, Public Health officials revealed Friday. The infant joins another young child in the hospital but both are said to be in a stable condition and neither of them need help breathing. The baby is one of 21 new local cases, 16 of them children, reported by Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee today, and all of them are unvaccinated.
The additional positive individuals have pushed the active cases of the virus in Cayman to 148, with more people now symptomatic than not. According to Public Health, in addition to the two infants and one senior female adult currently in the hospital, another 75 people are unwell as a result of the virus and 70 are asymptomatic.
Once again, despite repeated requests, the number of people in isolation has not been reported.
Meanwhile, the pace of COVID vaccine take-up has slowed again, despite the increasing number of local transmissions and the impending mandate for work permit holders to be vaccinated for their permits to be granted or renewed.
Just 34 more people got their first dose over the last day, bringing the total to 55,530 or 78% of the estimated population with at least one shot, while 52,822 or 74% have had two shots after just 39 people completed the course yesterday. 262 people have now had a booster.

Dr. Lee announced this morning that both children were released on the weekend and back home.
Announced 14 more positives, 10 in children. Lots of kids building natural immunity.
Clearly the vaccines are working as relatively fewer parents of these children are getting infected.
Hospitalized BECAUSE of Covid, or for another reason, but was tested while there and found to have Covid, but is asymptomatic? Important difference.
In hospital FROM Covid, or WITH Covid? There’s a BIG difference. They could be in hospital with another issue, and be tested and found to be positive with Covid, but be asymptomatic. It’s important to know this information, so we don’t cause unnecessary panic. I hope those babies continue to get better.
Interesting that the uk said today 6 of the most severe covid cases in uk hospitals are unvaccinated pregnant women. Just reiterates again how much worse covid can impact pregnant women and how it is so important that expectant mothers or people planning for a baby need to be jabbed. The cayman government could definitely push that message more clearly here.
Look how many people have left Cayman and gone back into the “real world” for vacations, mingled, come back, tested negative and are working as normal. Being stuck in this bubble, we are only hearing the worst news, when even though this virus can be dangerous, for the most part it is not. Note that I am fully vaccinated and support the vaccine. Kind of ridiculous that we have to leave this island to sense some kind of normalcy. This government are clueless and running scared. Most of them are not qualified to hold their posts during regular times, let alone a global pandemic.
Watch from 4hr 47min mark.

Best tell JuJu and Wayne to watch it, not me.
They should have been at the conference
They can’t handle the truth.
This should be required watching for everyone!!!
Another 2 drugs to treat Covid are being reported and will hopefully available soon. The government needs to get these and other medications in more than adequate supply before they drop quarantine and welcome the virus to Cayman.
“An antibody therapy being developed by the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca can reduce the chances of high-risk people developing severe, life-threating Covid infections, clinical trial results show.
The drug, called AZD7442 and given as an injection, attacks the virus and buys the body’s own immune system time to fight the infection.
In the trial, a single dose cut the risk of severe Covid-19 or death from any cause by 50%, compared with a placebo.
For those who received the treatment within five days of their symptoms first appearing, it reduced the risk of developing severe Covid or death by 67%.
Full results from the Tackle trial will be submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed medical journal.
The company is already seeking emergency use authorisation for the drug in the US. It’s not the first therapy of this kind. A similar type of treatment, called Ronapreve, has been approved for use in the UK.”
There are some groups and individuals in this country that either don’t take the COVID-19 virus seriously or don’t care about the potentially negative outcomes once they can earn more money today than they earned yesterday. Their position is buttressed by special interest groups who have a track record of pretending to care about the wider community while in reality only caring about themselves and those entities that provide them with financing. These groups have successfully bullied a weak PACT government and the end result is the random spread of COVID-19 within the community. Let’s hope that the vaccine will provide adequate protection for the community as any COVID-19 related death would be an unfortunate and tragic situation for the country.
Excellent post. Thank you
I would make one small amendment to your final sentence. “any COVID-19 related death would be an unfortunate, tragic and potentially avoidable situation for the country.
The oncoming death of Cayman islands (not even close to being a country)economy would be an unfortunate, tragic, and potentially avoidable situation if the leadership and people were not all third world edumacated. But they are so get ready for it. All so you won’t get expat cootie covid. P.S. Dart is going to do well in the recession.
Absolute BS !!
Pact were bullied into not opening on Oct 14th first and foremost by idiotic delusional people who didn’t follow the science and the stats. That should never have changed!!
One of the weakest, if not the weakest governments ever formed in these islands.
What a joke, please open up the island and require every one to quarantine for 14 days just like NZ don’t be like Bermuda or Jamaica!!! As we can see the result
AMEN!!!
So NO MORE press briefings? Just video messages? No matter what happens? Is PACT afraid to face the questions from the media and public? Hiding?
they are afraid of answering hard questions no doubt.
but at the same time the press briefings offer little and made the public even angrier due to the nonsense that they were hearing.
just go back and watch the last train wreck of a press conference.
if anybody is to hold a press conference it shuld just be the governor and dr lee.
I am a parent with a child in a class with a few positive cases. We now have to quarantine for 14 days, even though my child is negative. So what happens in the next month when this happens again, cause it will? Do we have to yet again quarantine for another 14 days? And repeat over again the following month? This isn’t realistic, we have to get on with things. We have jobs that can’t realistically keep having employees gone for 1/2 a month if not more. Not adding I have another child who this might happen to. Come on guys this isn’t sustainable.
Working parent and here lies the real problem with these inconsiderate usurpers who do not give a $#%@ about this place or our situation. Our difficulties should never get in the way their convenient lifestyle and as for them caring about Cayman unemployment Pleeease spare us like they care? .With issues worldwide this has merely become an inconvenience issues for many of them until it becomes a major problem in these winter months where there countries get paralysed. You see they can afford to stay home and can work from home without the lease bit of difficulty .As for their big Speel living with covid 19 if was as easy and simple as they say why the hell don’t they go live somewhere else them ??
Get the vaccine
Working parent – Sad to say likely you won’t be working much longer.
If the parents ate unvaxed, refer them to RCIP and DCFS.
Reckless endangerment and gross negligence
Selfish people who won’t vaccinatez.

If you were near me I would vomit on you.
Good to know – I will stay from people who look like bilious idiots.
Another reason to keep quarantine for a while longer is in the news today – Guardian
“People who catch flu and Covid at the same time this winter are twice as likely to die than those who only have coronavirus, according to the UK Health Security Agency chief executive, Dr Jenny Harries.”
…or you just get vaccinated against Covid and flu…and don’t die! That fact is lifted straight out of an article from “Common Sense”, the “virtual magazine” shared among right-minded and grounded people who lack the propensity to indulge in self-centred control dramas (bolstered by random research from questionable sources).
11.17am The HSA admit they have no idea when flu vaccine will arrive, so we really need to avoid catching them at the same time by quarantining until the flu vaccine does arrive!.
I noticed today that the “open the borders” business group has a new online petition. I am fully vaccinated as is my family but I do not like this type of pressure tactic by a special interest group. I am also concerned by the logic on the petition which says, “We’ve kept Cayman healthy, but the time has come to safely reopen our Islands.”. On its face the message seems to be that the time for keeping Cayman healthy is passed as far as they are concerned and they are perfectly happy to sacrifice our health for their profits.
Covid is never going away and everyone will get it at some point, so the time has+9:3 to open up like the rest of the world.
Oh do shut up with this false argument, there is absolutely nothing science based about it. Every pandemic in history has passed or mutated to something less harmful.
and all those relied on mass exposure to do so. I assume you are familiar with the histories of South America, USA and Africa where isolation from a disease that had become non harmful to those who had prolonged exposure to it (i.e. Europeans) wiped out almost entire populations who had no exposure. The bubble model is not sustainable long term.
But it is for the next 4 years. Demand 14 days quarantine for all travellers. It’s ridiculous that it is less than a week also strict fines for breakers.
Even Singapore, which previously had a strict quarantine and border closure, is opening up and dropping quarantine for vaccinated travellers. Just like Australia and New Zealand they realize covid isn’t going away and the zero covid strategy is not maintainable forever.
Your examples point to the opposite conclusion. Singapore has had to significantly pause its re-opening due to increased Covid deaths. Read this:
https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/singapore-reports-highest-single-day-rise-covid-19-cases-2021-10-05/
NZ is allowing vaccinated travelers but sensibly is requiring all incoming vaccinated tourists to quarantine for 14 days just like we should do. NZ tourist sites are being overwhelmed by the demand from tourists who want extended holidays away from Covid.
Actually from an article today, Singapore is dropping quarantine for vaccinated travellers from a number of countries including the US and UK on Oct 19. It also says the majority of their cases are mild or asymptomatic.
https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/singapore-pm-says-covid-19-new-normal-could-take-up-6-months-2021-10-09/
NZ is a larger country with more to do. I can’t imagine the planes will be full of tourists willing to come here and quarantine for 14 days. Airlines don’t even want to offer flights if we have the quarantine unfortunately.
Im not sure where you are getting this from. New Zealand tourist sites are not being overwhelmed with demand from tourists willing to travel there and quarantine for 14 days.
And I don’t think an “extended holiday away from covid” is the draw you think it is. Most people are vaccinated and living their lives normally other than wearing a mask in a few places. Everything is open and they have the freedom to go wherever they want. They aren’t going to waste the time or money to quarantine for 14 days when there are a lot of places to go that don’t require that.
Anyone so maniacally confident in their vaccination status from half a year ago, really should ask their doctor to draw an antibody titre, and then see how tough they are when they read those results. Maybe half the fully-vaccinated are running on empty and will want to consider a booster when they arrive later this month, and hopefully in good shape! Deferring reopening by a few weeks to spare our hospital an avoidable healthcare crisis, are days well spent, and was a well-advised choice.
Get those boosters into arms ASAP!
Its been over a year we are protecting our hospitals. At this point we are sacrificing ourselves so our hospitals will never have to work.
The debate of reopening aside. I also find the petition and the way it is worded about “making a pledge” disturbing. It’s also interesting to see the list of names of who have made that pledge. It’s like some loyalty test campaign. I don’t know who came up with this, but it is creepy.
Also a disproportionate lack of the names related of the oldest Caymanian families. Some of the names on the list don’t even live in Cayman.
how many kids are currently in hospital generally?…and for what conditions?
One in Miami. Just ask the all knowing pro-vaxers why!
Fake news person alert!
Doesn’t the headline say baby in hospital with Covid? Why you asking stupid questions?
precautionary measure hopefully.
Interesting research coming out of Canada showing that the vaccine is highly effective in preventing hospitalization but less so when people have both doses of the Pfizer vaccine within a month. Hopefully government is going to bring in adequate amounts of the booster vaccine at least a few weeks before bringing in the virus so that we don’t follow Bermuda’s example of dozens of deaths and hundreds of hospitalizations.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/canada-vaccine-effectiveness-data-delayed-doses-mixing-matching-covid-19-vaccines-1.6205993
We have known for months that 8 weeks is the sweet spot between doses. People in the uk will be better protected as the uk in March started with a 12 week gap between dose one and two, where as cayman decided to do 3 weeks
Fair enough, but that is NOT what our local experts, guided by science told us! They automatically booked our second vaccine three weeks thereafter. Thanks Dr. Lee and Alden!
To be fair – in January 2021 nobody knew what the ideal timing was.
Hopefully government can get its act together and ensure that boosters are made available to all who require them before CIG drops quarantine and throws a big welcome Sars-CoV-2 party.
Hopefully government can get its act together? Is that really what your counting on?
What is the status re booster, why is it not freely available yet?? What’s the delay, another round of bureaucracy and turning away of people who want it?
Why we didnt follow uk. Who decided 3 wks. I think minimum was 4 wwks
3 weeks was what the drug companies trialed and got emergency use authorisation for. We did 3 weeks quite properly. Other countries decided to extend the period because they were desperate to slow hospitalisations and decided it was better to give most people their first jab and some protection than half the people full protection and half none. It was simply a matter of logistics and, credit where credit is due, CIG did a great job.
Parents fully vaccinated? Didn’t think so.
Disgraceful that some people with kids are so irresponsible as to not be vaccinated
90% of locally infected adults in Cayman are vaccinated. If vaccinated many months ago the vaccinated will get and pass covid at same rate as unvaccinated.
Source?? – that would be interesting if it is factual.
wrong. and just a nother anti-vax lie….and you know it.
unvaxxed catch and spread covid easier than vaxxed. fact.
Fake news alert!
Which vaccine prevents Covid?
Pfizer moderne and Oxford all reduce your chances of catching spreading and dying from it. Have you been kicked away for the last year?
Why assume that? The jab just reduces a chance of getting it on each exposure, so at 88% immunity you have 88% less chance of getting it but Delta is so infectious the chances of infection have soared so that the vast majority of adult infections will be among the vaccinated who, once infected, are as infectious as the unvaccinated. The US media bleating on about “breakthrough” infections misses what the protection percentages mean.
The vaccination does reduce the effect R rate, with that 88% have its effect there in slowing and smooth spread, but everyone jabbed should assume they will catch Covid too at some point sooner or later, the value is that it triggers an immune response that dramatically reduces the chances after infection of being seriously ill, needing hospitalisation or dying.
Who are you referring to?
I wonder if the courts will consider the hospitalised babies when sentencing those who recklessly broke quarantine?
Not if they are Caymanian Bobo. Especially if they are CIG Caymanian. Keep up with the news. Only Expats and those who fornicate with Expats get jail time.
The UK recognises that the Covid booster is essential to keeping the virus at bay. If we open up before boosters are available to those at risk here there will be dire consequences for many. Guardian –
“The health secretary, Sajid Javid, has celebrated the fact that 2 million people have received their Covid booster jab in England.
“This is great progress which is helping to reinforce our wall of defence so we can keep the virus at bay,” he said.
“The U.K.”
So who’s the U.K. exactly? Lying cheating politicians taking directorships and bungs from their friends
Do Cayman politicians now? I’ll help..
lying, cheating, woman beating, corrupt, drunk, homophobic, incompetent, who make dodgy real estate deals, and allow illegal items into the island for their friends.
and more…..
Be careful you don’t get what you want. The average voter over here is not a fan of parasite economies. They will happily vote to end financial aid to Cayman. It’s only the dirty ones as you described that defend Cayman, ironic huh?
The average voter also prefers Spain, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Bahamas, Jamaica and Bermuda for sunshine and culture. Hell, even London has about 10+ times as many tourists and visitors.
Who’s the UK? They’re only the ones who created a safe and effective vaccine in under a year and produced hundreds of millions of shots to help end this pandemic. Oh and the people who bought and gave us tens of thousands of Pfizer vaccines when every country on earth was fighting over them. That’s who. Idiot.
Worthwhile news item this morning – hopefully the government is paying attention.
“Singapore’s health ministry reported 3,703 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, the highest since the beginning of the pandemic, while it recorded 11 new deaths.
A recent spike in infections after the relaxation of some restrictions has prompted Singapore to pause further reopening.
It also tightened curbs from last week that limited social gatherings to two people and made work from home a default.
More than 80% of Singapore’s population has been vaccinated against the virus, Reuters reports.”
So tiny numbers… 11 deaths and a population of 5 million. Shows the vaccines work really well.
11 Covid deaths in one day, far more than before they relaxed their restrictions. We should note that before we welcome death to our community.
Im not sure where you are getting this information but a news story yesterday says that Singapore has realized that they need to learn to live with covid. They are opening their border to quarantine free travel from more countries for vaccinated people.
They are going to restrict unvaccinated people from certain public places like malls.
https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/singapore-pm-says-covid-19-new-normal-could-take-up-6-months-2021-10-09/
Parents, be careful with some of these antivaxxer helpers you have coming around your children, we have a long way to go with this thing.
We had to let ours go because of that.
Same I had to let my cleaner go as she refused to get vaxed
Oh no we might not be able to get a cleaner and a helper. They might have to wait 14 days in quarantine. Ohhh that is terrible. Open up now!! Oh if they are unvaxed and don’t want to take an experimental vaccine we will have to remove them from their jobs like toilet paper which we now have to handle ourselves!! Oh the inhumanity.
Unfortunately there are also quite a few antivaxers who are elderly caregivers. My mother’s was one and kept refusing to take the vaccine. Everytime I asked her why she came up with a different reason.
Any helper, care giver that refuse the vaccine
is a threat to any of us. Ann
Not too long ago the ‘open at any cost’ advocates were demanding that our government should copy Bermuda and drop quarantine because Covid was nothing and we could ‘live with Covid’ with no ill effects.
Yesterday Bermuda, which is about 70% fully vaccinated as compared with our 74%, announced another 2 deaths to add to the dozens in recent weeks who are no longer ‘living with Covid’. Bermuda also announced that they have 43 in hospital with 8 in intensive care and further that:
“Local/Under Investigation cases: 32% are fully vaccinated and 68% are not vaccinated”
Covid is not flu. It kills. If government ends quarantine it does so at our peril.
https://www.gov.bm/articles/covid-19-update-8-october-2021
So closed\quarantine forever? What is your long term plan?
We are not closed. It is slightly less convenient to travel.
The government is running a surplus. It’s time to let tourism die and focus on keeping Cayman a top financial centre and innovating in new industries like tech.
Same Bermuda government news release also says 89 Bermudians are no longer “living with Covid” – Covid killed them.
You should have mentioned that 19% of those dying of Covid in Bermuda were fully vaccinated. Everyone that is eligible should get vaccinated but we all need to remember that vaccination does not prevent people catching Covid. Some will quite likely die of Covid, even if they are vaccinated, if Covid is let loose in Cayman.
As has been reported from day 1 of the vaccination, the vaccine does not prevent you from getting COVID but will prevent you from dying and most likely hospitalization. Please read this study from the National Institutes of Health (please note it is not Facebook, Fox, or OAN):
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34055843/
Actually – the vaccine reduces the probability of death and hospitalization and spread. For that reason everybody that can should get vaccinated. It is wrong however that the vaccine totally prevents either hospitalization or death.
The death rate is 0.05% if under 50, vaccinated or not. It not exactly the plague, calm down.
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1018547/Technical_Briefing_23_21_09_16.pdf
Table 5 on page 18.
In other words, screw those over 50 so you can get on with your rock star life.
So let’s open like Turks and Caicos then!
TCI – half the population of Cayman and averaging a death a week lately. – No thank you!
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/turks-and-caicos-islands/
They are 67% of the total population we are 84% according to ‘our world in numbers’ web site. Really depends what our population is!
It should be noted that Bermuda has a lot less expats. They have generations of families unvaccinated & the elders are dying. Lots of deaths in their old peoples homes. Only 75% of their nurses vaccinated!
You cannot compare Cayman to Bermuda. The only thing we have in common is we are British islands.
And as of a few months ago, Bermuda wasn’t even requiring unvaccinated people to quarantine. Other countries like T&C have done a better job of opening up.
We do have to learn to live with covid because it’s not going away.
Marc, Markus, Michael, Mike, the “Follow Bermuda” cheerleaders…
Those 4 Ms have the collective vision of a whelk.
They could not compete themselves out of a wet paper bag in a truly competitive environment much less give sensible advice on how to run a Territory.
Don’t follow those 4.
Since the pandemic began, the population fatality rate among children in the UK has been 1 in 660,000. That is 1 death out of every 660,000 infections. And that includes the period when there were not the therapeutic responses we have now, so the real child population fatality rate now is likely to be lower than 1 in 1 million. That makes Covid less dangerous to kids than flu. That means if every child in Cayman was infected, and none received any vaccine, there would be a 1% chance of 1 death among the whole child population. Perspective people, that is what we need.
Lots of children are quietly acquiring natural immunity. And natural infection means you are exposed to the latest variant, whereas the Pfizer vaccine was developed using the genomic sequence of the original wild Wuhan strain from 18 months ago.
Not the end of the world that this ripped through the schools. In the UK they expect that by the end of spring every child will either have been vaccinated or will have been naturally infected.
I don’t think the UK expected that as they haven’t been vaccinating children!
Do you have a link for the source? Not saying it’s wrong but I’d like to double check since this is great news if true.
Don’t hold your breath. No credible source would produce anything like that nonsense.
It was the Professor of Public Risk at Cambridge, only the UK’s no 1 expert at assessing and explaining medical risk.
The data are from Covid by Numbers by David Spiegelhalter which is newly out. He is the Professor of the Public Understanding of Risk in the Statistical Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, which is a terrible title for someone who essentially specialises in explaining risks to the public in an accessible and understandable manner. He has been very good on the radio and press on Covid.
There is a link to The Times review which has the numbers, but it might be behind a paywall https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/covid-by-numbers-by-david-spiegelhalter-and-anthony-masters-review-mzf3n35q0
YouTube.
It is referred to here: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/oct/10/covid-by-numbers-10-key-lessons-separating-fact-from-fiction
I totally get your point, but with COVID 19, death is not the only important metric.
The number of people reporting long COVID, with a wide range of issues, is not as well publicized, despite many having life altering symptoms.
Yet you know and are writing about it!
You do know that those numbers are related to the size of the UK population of around 68 million compared to Cayman’s 66 thousand people right? Also need to take into account for how many children are in that number to see how the statistics align. But if we do take the numbers and information that we do have: for the UK that’s roughly 1020 child deaths from Covid and possible 10 child deaths so not just one death.
Again this isn’t fully comparable as we don’t have the number of children in each population so those numbers could change. But for Cayman that is still 10 families burying their little ones too soon. Also, we need to take into account the amount of people that survived and are left with chronic aliments after Covid.
I still hope the little one and everyone else has a speedy recovery, because I know a few who had Covid and are still recovering form the after effects.
US, with a population of 335 million, has had 450 COVID deaths in under 18s. That would mean .08 under 18s in Cayman.
Since the pandemic began there have been 60,000 deaths under 18 years old in the United States from all causes.
You need to work on that maths, 6.14. But the thumbs up show how the stupid follow the stupid with bad figures on here.
The figures are just for children. The under 18s make up 21% of the UK population. So if every child caught covid, which won’t happen, and if none had a vaccine, and even taking the higher 1 in 660,000 figure that reflects the old data set, that is 20 deaths. In a country of 68m. The 1% chance of 1 death in Cayman is overstating the risk.
Your math does not work. The original poster was correct. A 1% chance of one death.
The number of people in isolation isn’t being provided because they don’t want to let on that it’s a significant % of the population (projected or otherwise). So much for transparency…
The most concerning thing about this is the comment re slow vaccine take up. Let’s be honest… cayman is trying to do what the rest of the world did in March 2020, in september 2021, but with an 80 per cent vaccination rate. What did we learn at the start in March 2020 in the uk… if you are black, obese and poor you are way more likely to not get vaccinated and to catch Covid. It’s all about education and I’m not sure this government have mandated those most a risk enough.
All unvaccinated…
Brilliant observation that a baby under 1 and a child less than 11 are not vaccinated. You must be very clever.
Our cases are nearly equally with people who are vaccinated and who are not. Guess what…none of them are severely ill, even those without the vaccine.
Babies suffering because of the greed and indifference of those who are already rich and just want more.
Ridiculous comment, by all accounts some parents of these kids testing positive are unvaccinated, and the first community spread was caymanians in an only 60 per cent vacc8nation rate in some areas, breaching quarantine. You can’t blame this one on rich expats like you try to blame everything else.
Touchy – nothing in the original post about expats and some of the rich folk pushing open at any cost are multi-generational Caymanians. The issue is whether people value their wealth more than the loves of others.
I value my wealth above the loaves of others. It’s all about the bread.
How many more children are going to end up in hospital or worse to satisfy the lets live and die with Covid campaign?
How many times I took my child to hospital, over the years, with high fevers. Did you care?
How would I have known? It’s only Covid that has ever been published, daily, world wide. Hmmm …
At the time of posting this 27% of those responding had clicked the ‘ZZZZ’ who cares button. I would have thought that the ‘open the borders and let the dying begin crowd would have clicked the smiley face.
Stopping quarantine for vaccinated will make no difference to the death rate in cayman. It’s a pointless policy
Tell that to the families of the dead Bermudians who were fully vaccinated and died of Covid after Bermuda ended quarantine.
Praying for the speedy recovery of the infants, the senior and everyone showing symptoms.
It is still possible to achieve Zero COVID again here. Government, please lock down!! Once you have brought it under control, offer a long term tourism product and target the right kind of tourists, many of whom would still be willing to quarantine. Ministers Saunders keeps insisting we have to do something different to achieve something different – show it by your action – offer a different tourism product – for the safety of our beloved islands!
Zero Covid is impossible with delta. Even the mad PM of New Zealand has given up on it.. COVID is fatal in about 1 in 1 million cases for children and probably far less now the jabs can be given to the older ones that were at higher risk.
You seem to think that there are only 2 options – permanent lockdown or lots of people dying. We can minimize death by maintaining quarantine but I suspect that the inconvenience of quarantine is too much too consider when other people’s lives are at stake.
Don’t be ridiculous. Zero Covid was never possible in any country regardless of policy, and Covid is never going away, we have a high vaccination rate and should have no quarantine for vaccinated… maybe a red list country list at most… we should follow the us border policy, you don’t even need a pre departure negative test anymore to fly into London and there’s no quarantine, unless you are un vaxed. The idea of zero Covid being possible shows an incredible lack of understanding, Covid will be here in 10 years, 20 years. The last big coronavirus of 1918 was still found in mutations 80 years later. We have to live with it and open up.
The Spanish Flu was just that influenza, not a coronavirus.
A small favour but would people just stop making stuff up.
Or if you truly believe what you are writing just stop as you know less than nothing, as what you know is factually incorrect.
I wasn’t talking about Spanish flu
There was not big coronavirus in 1918 – that was the Spanish Flu. You simply do not know what you’re talking about.
The Health Minister in Bermuda said hospitalizations since January are over 90% unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated. And no one under 18 has died.
Tourists aren’t going to want to quarantine for 7 days (which is actually closer to 9). No one is going to start a vacation like this.
Locked in a small Westin hotel room for over a week? No way.
Time we focused on attracting long-term stay over visitors then.
Whatever the semantics, I wish the child a speedy recovery.
Threw me for a minute until I realised the distinction.
Admitted with Covid or as a result of Covid?
Covid denier of the lowest sort. A baby is ill and you and the other open at any cost crowd are trying to distract people with this nonsense.
Truth seeker, not Covid denier. Covid is real, the truth well, tough to find in Cayman.
No – I am just making the point that the vast majority of people hospitalized with Covid worldwide, especially the very small proportion of children, have significant underlying health conditions that often would have led to hospital admission on their own at some point
Idiotic comment. People can live with “underlying health conditions” for decades and not need to go to the hospital until they get Covid. In addition, there’s a good chance everyone ends up in the hospital at some time in their life. After all, we all suffer from the underlying condition of mortality.
6:3`pm Jeez. Really? The child is sick with Covid. Stop being ridiculous.
Praying for a speedy recovery for everyone.

Covid deniers going strong trying to keep us from the truth that Covid is real and has killed millions around the planet.
Out of an abundance of caution
This is the type of headline that Pact love. Drive more fear into the population.

‘With’ and ‘From’
Day and Night
Hot and Cold
Your never going to see a headline with “Child who fell off roof and broke multiple limbs admitted to hospital with Covid”
Public Health says “….and 75 are unwell as result of the virus…” Did they sneeze, cough or have a runny nose?? Does it matter how unwell they are? Of course it does. What is Unwell ?
