(CNS): Another police vehicle ended up in the shop last week after an officer crashed it into a house during a George Town drug bust. This is the sixth police vehicle in the last month to be involved in a collision and comes against the backdrop of officers clamping down on traffic violations and drunk drivers. The smash happened on Thursday near the Shedden Road, McField Lane and Liberty Lane junction while police were rounding up a missing suspect and making drug related arrests.

When officers arrived at the location, several men who were in the area ran off. As one of the officers was stopping the police vehicle he was driving to give chase, it skidded along a rough gravel surface and crashed into the house. This caused minor damage to the building but major damage to the RCIPS vehicle and minor injuries to the two officers in the car.

The crash is being investigated by the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit.

Despite the collision, the police arrested Henry York Carter (34) in relation to violation against his conditional release from prison, as well as three George Town men, aged 35, 23 and 21, who were arrested for drug related offences.

ATTENTION: To ALL you poor drivers! (ALL nationalities)

Indicators are to assist in keeping traffic flowing. It advises other drivers of your intentions.
    USE YOUR INDICATORS!!

Roundabouts are also used to keep traffic flowing. ROUNDABOUTS ARE NOT A 4-WAY STOP!!

4-Way stops can be used 2 at a time. Cross traffic can GO. It is not a one at a time kind of deal…

Are your driving instructors teaching these things????

And stay off your phones! Police too. Just because you are the police does not mean you are allowed to be on your phone.

Thank you! Just ahwile ago I witnessed drivers who didn’t know what to do at a 4-way stop and wondered the same question.

Overall driving standards are poor, but most definitely exascerbated by so many imported poor drivers!

Yardie cops believe they know it all, check the culture of driving. Too show off and boasty

The RCIPS reflects the actual people of the territory.

Therefore, all the idiots commenting negatively, you do realise that it’s also your driving that’s quite bad too.

I bet we have a load of people here who never indicate, use high beams all the time, get in fender benders, speed…

I’d be more happy here that some real POS have been removed from circulation for a while.

Was the police officer breathalyzed? If not, why not.

I am sure I will get a lot of dislikes but here goes. The fact is I have friends in the RCIPS and I have been told time and time again that the majority of accidents are caused by Jamaican officers. They need special training when it comes to driving those high-speed vehicles. They are not skilled drivers, to begin with and with no extra training or retake of drivers test these accidents will continue to happen.

    • Anonymous says:

Unfortunately you can’t train out the Jamaican driving culture from them. So its all just another cultural misunderstanding right Mister Bush?

    • Anonymous says:

Limit their contracts! They have nerve complaining about the one or two British police making more money, please…

You hit the nail precisely on the head 10:25.

I do not think our traffic police are trained properly to chase any vechicle on our roads in Cayman.

I am much afraid this matter will not be taken serious until God forbid crashes occur including ones of fatalities of innocent civilians.

“Until God forbid crashes occur including ones of fatalties of innocent civilians”. It has already happened many times! I will name just THREE whom I personally knew, who were being chased by RCIPS when they were killed in car accidents:

      Eddie Coe – 1975 RIP
      Hank Barnes – 1986? RIP
      Dayna Chisholm – 2001 RIP

Back in those days, Police knew almost everyone and what they drove + license numbers + small island = NOWHERE to disappear, so why chase even if the driver runs off?

  7. Anonymous says:

so police driving reckless is now the norm? someone have to die before drastic measures are taken to train these idiots properly. cool.

  8. Anonymous says:

RCIPS sounds like your officers need PROPER driver training, especially high-speed pursuit training!!

Yet they say we don’t have the generational Caymanians! Start end contracts of some these incompetent officers then we will have enough vacancies for the Caymanains who were turned away.

  9. Anonymous says:

Police need to hire ‘designated drivers’ ASAP. This is not comedy!

  10. PC Plod says:

The police often have to force the front door open in drug den operations, this is a novel way to do it.

  11. Anonymous says:

And they should dim their lights for oncoming g traffice

  12. Anonymous says:

I have contacted Netflix and asked them to do a series on our police incompetence.
They actually declined saying that no one would believe it.

  13. Anonymous says:

Is there any impairment testing done on these officers crashing public vehicles? Can we FOI those reports?

  14. Anonymous says:

Why are there so many car accidents involving officers? Being able to drive should be part of their ‘test’ to get a job over qualified Caymanians.
    Which garage gets these cars?
How many are resold to friend here or overseas?
Are these cars replaced with new ones?

These are the questions MPs, prospective candidates and Commissioner should be asking.

    uh-oh spaghettieos…

  16. Anonymous says:

If the cops can’t drive properly then why would the general public? There are developments going up left and right, great news for traffic congestion.

  17. Anonymous says:

Wow, our coppers can’t even negotiate manoeuvres on Barber Greene roads so how did this officer think he was going to stop on gravel? I wonder if he drives a Honda when he’s off duty?

    • Anonymous says:

You are absolutely spot on with your comment 10:59am,
These 3rd world coppers only know how to drive front wheel drive vehicles, they do not know how to operate american made vehicles.

  18. Anonymous says:

Going to be out of cars at this rate.

  19. Anonymous says:

That’s why we have increased speed traps the past couple of weeks. $$$$$$$

  20. Anonymous says:

What type of driving program does the RCIPS employ to train its Officers how to drive effectively?

… they should also add the use of turn signals to the curriculum.

    • Anonymous says:

Whatever program it is should come with a money-back guarantee because they can’t drive worth a damn!
