British Airways air-bridge flight arrived Monday evening

(CNS): The British Airways flight chartered by the UK government to bring supplies to Bermuda and Cayman touched down at the Owen Roberts International Airport yesterday evening. It offloaded medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, test kits and groceries, as well as 58 Caymanian students and residents who had been stuck in the UK. The aircraft will leave later today, Tuesday 7 April, with 131 people headed for London via the Bahamas.

All of the people coming in from the UK were checked on arrival by Public Health and immediately taken to the government quarantine facility. They will remain in highly supervised isolation for 14 days, after which they will be tested for COVID-19 before being able to return to their family homes.

Before landing on Grand Cayman the flight stopped in Bermuda, dropping off 129 Bermudians and essential supplies for that territory. A UK advisory team also arrived and will be travelling on to the Turks and Caicos Islands to provide medical, operational and security expertise to the government there.

“This flight has taken considerable effort to arrange at a time when moving people and consignments around the world is a global challenge,” Governor Martyn Roper said as the plane came in Monday.

“Its arrival has enabled vital supplies to be delivered to Cayman and increases our capacity for testing. It has also allowed many people to return home to both Cayman and Bermuda. The upmost care will be taken to isolate those returning travellers to limit the risk to the population to the absolute minimum.”

He said the outbound flight will allow people from here to return home, either to the UK or travel on to other destinations where possible.

“I am grateful for the support of the premier in allowing this flight to land and to everyone who has been involved in its planning,” he added, before thanking all those involved who made it happen in difficult circumstances.

I have to admit being pleasantly surprised by the UK/FCO getting any supplies out to the colonies. (Much less people.) Given the global and UK situation re getting those same supplies (and people).

How lucky we must be that Dwayne Seymour was, according to him, chosen and elected by God to be our losing coalition government Health Minister, and that he has the authority to advise his critics that they will face God’s wrath should they oppose His will. No media questions/corrections on that one!?!

Poor Dwayne, not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but serves a purpose catering to the less educated sector of the population that share his beliefs.

The less educated? At the end of the day he has a job to do and quite frankly he is doing that job. Even the “educated” are still running about, panic buying and being selfish,to the case where some people are starving, and also not able to get basic medical supplies, which they need. Also not every speaker is going to be using every word in the dictionary and some times there needs to be a small comical break to take off some of the tension. Do you notice the uptake in Memes? Right now I think everyone is doing what they can. There is a large section of Caymanians that are religious and quite a few “Well educated”. The messages of prayer are for them, and they see guidance in it, and if that message is not for you ,then it is not for you. Just know that in Ivan, everyone that was here for the profitability of Cayman left, and those that actually cared stayed and I would point out that the “uneducated ” as you call them and the “Educated” had to put this place back together. it is no different in this situation. Please notice that even 3 words “Stay Home Cayman” no matter what level of education, still could’t stay home until a hard curfew and a fine was put in place. Have some respect.

Why was it “essential business” to have someone there taking photos of the plane and personnel in PPE dressage??

Because we need to see some good news instead of bad all the time.

And we need to risk lives to take pictures to prove that good news? Hope the photographers surnames began A-K.

We could have used a google image of a BA plane instead, without people unnecessarily being out on the roads.

Perhaps the photo was taken by someone already there for an “essential reason” and then shared. Ever think of that possibility?

It is very good to see HE the Governor and the Hon Premier giving a sterling lead in cooperative action in this time of crisis, as well as the expert roles of the Commissioner of Police along with relevant government ministers. Sometimes it takes a severe crisis to show how good things that we were beginning to despair were never possible can indeed be brought to light. Can this be a helpful lesson even in more normal times? I pray so. For this is the true Cayman, which really does have good things to show the world.

    Not on board: Mrs. Roper
Cayman owes this crisis team a debt of gratitude. That ridiculous conspiracy theory was a slap in the face to the Governor and a blemish on the Caymanian community.

I couldn’t care less if she was.
The plane had critical supplies and I probably should mention my daughter who is now being taken care of by the great volunteers at Margaritaville.
