Student environmental activists plan protest
(CNS): A group of young activists are planning another peaceful eco-protest at Eden Rock on Friday evening, and they are urging the public to support them again in their call for much needed environmental protection. The students in the Cayman Islands, who form the Protect Our Future group, are joining millions of young people around the world on Friday demonstrating to draw attention to myriad climate issues threatening to undermine their future. But the young activists here are focusing on the threat to the marine environment by the port project.
The protest will take place from 5pm, across from Bar Crudo on the harbour front.
“We will continue to join the global movement to place people, nature and common sense above greed,” a spokesperson for the group said, as they asked people to engage in the campaign to take action and drive policy.

Our reef is our future. Mangroves secure our future. What will secure their future is a prosperous country with relatively little crime. Cayman has chosen a path of development that has put it way beyond its neighbors. Look up Tarania Clarke and see if any of the activists can relate.
so glad to see that our youth is speaking out!
Misled mouthpieces primarily.
That’s an accurate description of our politicians and many comments such as yours here on CNS.
Not necessarily misled, but naĂ¯ve and idealistic. Mangroves are nice. Reefs are nice. I like mangroves. I like reefs. But reefs and mangroves aren’t what is going to secure our future. Cayman moved past that decades ago. That’s not to say we shouldn’t try and protect our mangroves and reefs, but let’s not exaggerate their importance to “our future.”
People like you is the reason why these kids are stepping up and speaking up..For too long now, the people including the children of this island have been conditioned to keep quiet, don’t say anything and don’t do anything….Our political Dinosaurs must understand now that the younger generation are not thinking the same way and unfortunately most of them are in line for a rude awakening!
Yawn. Fix the damn dump.
