DEH collects bulk waste in North Side

(CNS): The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) has blamed residents in the Eastern Districts for causing a delay in the seasonal bulk waste collection programme, saying that they put out more waste after the initial collection. “DEH collectors made repeated trips to retrieve bulk waste from previously collected areas,” officials said a release about the current pre-holiday collection. “As a result, there was a slight delay in the completion of bulk waste collection from North Side and East End.” The DEH said 43 loads of bulk waste, weighing 154.3 tonnes, were collected from the two districts.

The DEH began the collection of bulk waste, such as old furniture, tyres and metal items, from the kerbside last week. They began collecting in Bodden Town on Saturday and will continue in that district through Friday, 23 November. The collection in George Town will start on Saturday, 24 November.

It would be nice if when collecting the garbage that the bins were put back in its place rather than thrown all over the place.Caymanians used to be a very clean set of people and took pride in their surroundings.

It is not the residents fault is is YOURS for facilitating this. One collection, one pick up! If you miss it then residents should take responsibility for disposing of their own rubbish. Talk about a culture of helplessness!

Public make sure to read the environmental health internal auditor report that were released on October 1, 2018 in the cayman compass.

CNS: Ahem… Abuse led to 800% budget overrun at dump

The chief officer for health, senior staff in the ministry of health, 2018 retired environmental health director, environmental health solid waste and landfill management also other indentified environmental health staff failed the country. The environmental health director retired in 2018 and the persons mentioned above in this CNS post that failed the country still have their jobs. And the chief officer for health called for the environmental health internal audit and the chief officer for health made a statement in the auditor report that the matter is still being investigated and the chief officer for health is one of the persons mentioned above in this CNS post that failed the country. CNS please help the public by giving the public a urgent report on the investigation that is still going on. That the chief officer for health made a statement in the auditor report that were released on October 1, 2018

DEH, what previously collected areas? According to the previously published DEH schedule (link handily at the bottom of the article) NS & EE were Nov. 3-9, BT is 10-23. Saying on the 15th that you’re delayed because of ‘previous areas’ suggests that you’ve been picking up EE & NS for an additional 5 days (10~14). For that to be right everyone in EE & NS must have waited until the 10th to put their garbage out. For us to believe this garbage DEH is going to have to publish their pick-up logs, i.e., which areas in NS & EE did they pick up for the last two weeks (Nov. 3rd onwards). Or is there some secret ‘we collect each district by sections’ plan that they haven’t told the public about?

The mess with picking up the garbage will probably be sorted after the next election. It might be interesting to see after that date which private company will be contracted to manage the rubbish. A stitch in time saves nine.

People can be so critical and before they judge and condemn they should think more carefully. Today is 16th Nov so we are in middle of the Bodden Town pickup schedule. Bodden Town is big area so how are members of public really going to know which part is being catered to first. It’s not about being lazy or wanting something free, its about being sensible, if I live in Savannah and I choose to put out my things during the date range how am I really going to know if the collection time had passed for my area. What by guessing and going off what my neighbors do, by putting out when they put out and hope that’s right. What if they get the date wrong? Bodden Town runs from entrance Savannah to speed change in Bodden Town by Pease Bay. It would help and probably avoid lot confusion if DEH was bit more area specific relative to date pick ups

Hi CNS…just wanted to point out the word is “curbside” not “kerbside”

CNS: “Kerb” is the UK spelling of “curb”. See here.

This happens every single year! People don’t stick to the dates and put their stuff out long after the collection date has passed. My suggestion is to leave the stuff that has been put out after the deadline and stick to the schedule. After that schedule has been completed they can circle back and pick stuff up

Why don’t you just tell the free loading lazy b******s to take their own s**t to the dump themselves.
Start taking responsibility for you own actions instead of feeding off the people who earn the cash.

1:37pm a internal audit were conducted on environmental health in November 2017. It were found that 800 percent abusive over-spent money on over-time and multiple employees were indentified for receiveing impausible, unbelieveable eye soaring over-time rrcords of money which they received. Which were intentional abuse of the system. There were a statement in the auditor report that were released to the public on October 1, 2018 stated by the chief officer for health that the matter is still being investigated. But there have not being any up-date from the chief officer for health to the public since October 1, 2018 on how much progress has happened with the investigation. And in the audit report it also stated that the ministry of health staff and the chief officer for health failed in their duties also. CNS can you please provide the public ASAP with a up-date on the investigation that still going on which were stated by the chief officer of health in the auditor report that were released to the public on October 1, 2018.??

Why are they always putting the blame on someone else? This time it’s the residents themselves!

    Really?

Blaming the peope eho are paying you despite your obvious and continuing inefficiencies?

Fire the whole bunch starting with the Minister AND the Chief Officer. Unbelievable that she is allowed to continue in that position!

You’re a headline victim. They simply pointed out the fact that if people put out bulk waste after the deadline – and if the DEH is going to do the decent thing and pick it up anyway – then it delays everything else. Quite giving yourself a hernia with your ill-informed knee-jerks…

Yeah, don’t you hate the truth.
They come and pick up all the crap , and then people put out more crap. It’s not like it’s new or something. The dates are almost always the same. People just don’t give a shit. It’s all about them.

If there were regular property inspections in the districts, there could never be so much waste to be disposed of. When will inspections be part of program? Get your act together and start property/yard inspection, reducing the unsightly derelict car collection.

Ok Mr. Trump. I am sure it is someones fault.

Made me think today, what causes this slowdown? People. Why? Money…

I think the failure of collections will help someone come up with the brilliant idea that as a certain entity will be running the dump, maybe if there are enough problems with collections they will be invited to privatize collections. I can see that coming.

And if there are “alternative solutions” that off reg is looking at re Cayman Water, i bet that same someone is in the wings ready step in and save the day.

After hearing who the owner of few businesses that i would not have expected on island, every time i look at something now I think of who must be driving the bus.

There are a heck of a lot of businesses that have had massive infrastructure investments recently and there is no way they are financially viable.

Its not a question of how to stop this, its too late. And its too much.
