Should McKeeva Bush resign?
(CNS): McKeeva Bush, who holds one of the highest offices on the Cayman Islands, has been accused of groping a woman in Florida, and the police there say they not only have the alleged victim’s sworn statement but they also have a video of the incident. In addition to the alleged crime, since it it said to have taken place at a casino, there seems little doubt that Bush was, once again, gambling, a habit that some here believe is an addiction for which he needs help.
The incident has already produced negative publicity for the country, and if it progresses through the courts this will only increase. This is an argument in favour of Bush resigning from his position of speaker of the Legislative Assembly and/or member of the LA, because as an ordinary citizen rather than sitting speaker of the LA, it will be less embarrassing for Cayman.
But some might think this is early days and the whole thing may blow over, while others may believe that Bush is, as his lawyer claims, a victim of “cultural misunderstanding” and therefore innocent.

YES YES YES…….is there anybody out there who wants a sleazebag to represent them – i think not!
This man has never really shown any respect to his elected position and it seems has yet again demonstrated with his wondering hands that he doesn’t really hold full respect for women. He’s got to go.
What’s sickening here is almost everyone is acting surprised by this incident. Mac is no better or no worse than most politicians, he just manages to get caught more often. So Maybe he touched a female on the butt!! How does that measure up to spreading hating on an entire group of people because of their sexual orientation. Politicians are human too they’re usually not as trustworthy as us, but more so than the priest.
08.30, if you don’t understand the difference now, you never will.
Excuse me? You are insulting priests why exactly? They are not comparable to a politician in any form. There is good and bad in any and all professions. But don’t go insulting a man of God please. A man ordained by God to be a priest and follow that calling deserves respect and held in the highest regard. It is not easy to sacrifice your life to the call of God so have some respect! Politicians and priest are not comparable or cut from the same cloth! Shame on you.
Trump #2
What the heck does the duly elected president Trump have to do with your political mess. Find another crutch, no pun intended.
We shouldn’t be asking whether HE should resign or not. We should be asking why OUR GOVERNMENT has yet to strip him of his titles. This is a complete no-brainer and our government is sitting back and acting like that have no damn brains! How could he still have a choice in the matter?!
Monique, our government isn’t acting. They have no brains.
I believe judgement should be done once the case has wrapped up. if he is found guilty I think he should be forced to resigned both positions.
our leaders were elected to keep cayman out of debt and money problems. but our leaders take that money and go away on a gambling spree …. and we are the jackasses that keep voting for them, when will we vote for a change … probably when its to late … “Anonymousir”
Most of all, I hope he just stays in the US.
No, I hope the US takes away his visa under CMT ruling: Anyone found to be of poor character due to moral turpitude.
Sorry buddy, our laws say you cannot sexually harass a cocktail waitress, even in a casino you scumbag
Drain your own swamp. The president is draining the D.C. swamp. Trump that is!!
Well at least we already what his 2021 campaign song is going to be.
Can’t touch this?
Cayman says gambling is illegal. So why is he participating in activities that Cayman frowns upon. Not only that can he be trusted with the ‘people’s money” if he has an inclination to gamble. It is highly addictive. And there is no doubt he could abuse his power with money at his disposal. On the woman front, that is truly embarrassing. Step down. XXXX Are these the people we want running a country? People with no morals or integrity. Catch a wake up. Have people who are a good example not who get away with indespicable behaviours. If he has any moral fibre he would resign out of respect to Cayman and its people.
No one has ever accused the forever honorable Mac of having any moral fibre that I am aware of.
For a plethora of guaranteed-to-be-unpopular-if-disclosed reasons – I’m willing to let this one play out before casting my vote in this survey.
– Whodatis
Yer gettin’ soft!
But I thought Who was a “man” of principle who did not mind what others thought of him….
Who is.
However, Who also has enough sense to choose his battles wisely.
– Who
Because we were all waiting with baited breath to see which way Whodatis would approach this topic…
Isn’t the position of Whodatis always the same? it’s simply the most obnoxious thing that he can think of?
He usually is an apologist for criminals coming out of West Bay, but that usually is limited to his gang member schoolmates who were all apparently lovely boys who just needed a hug.
You all are so full of venom – you wouldn’t miss an opportunity to spew it out!
that would be ‘bated’ breath and yes we are all waiting!!
Ah Who….essentially meaning you have no answer or know that the answers you have are pure BS…particularly as spouting BS is your favourite occupation.
O…M…G!!?
Is it really that serious folks?
Btw, you guys are not being very nice on this lovely Monday morning.
-Who
😀
Sacred wessel defences don’t work with real juries.
Who’s credit cards did he use???
I hope that he steps down, never to return again.
He will be the first to fall and will initiate the fall of other politicians who think they can continue embarrassing, cheating, and manipulating us. I am particularly talking about the other dinosaur back benchers who are a national disgrace because of their blatant incompetence.
Jesus was well known to be quite tactile and loved a bet at the colleseum.
Should he resign? Of course! Will he resign? Of course not. You think he will walk away from all of that Govt. money? No way. He is a gambler, and he has beat the house before. He will never resign until he has pawned everything, like our reputation and decency, because like all addicts he is selfish, and the truth is an abstract concept.
once upon a time, I loved and admired Mr Mac for his tenacity, grit and love of country and his people. When I saw the headlines and his mugshot it was like a punch in the gut. Not because I felt sorry for him but because like most of us who give people a second chance, we HOPED that after the case he won in court that he would do everything in his power to remain out of trouble. We felt that with all his postings on FaceBook about the changes God had made in his life we prayed that he would stay close to God. I will not question his relationship with God because I try to serve God and do not always make it through the day without doing something or saying something I regret but I pray God that I will keep on improving as a Christian. So in spite of all this my prayer for Mr Bush is that he will keep on working on his relationship with Christ to the point where his addictions are cured. I also listened to him during the campaign and I left one meeting feeling that he was becoming either senile or suffering from early onset of dementia. I hate to say this but he made no sense and was quite inappropriate in some of the things he said, hence I did not vote from him or his party. Last but not least, he is still innocent of the crime until proven guilty but to be in that position at all, is not acceptable as a leader of these islands. I pray for Ms Kerry as she has stuck with him through thick and thin. Oh the many tears she must have shed each time he embarrasses her. I feel deeply sorry for her and his family. May God forgive Mr Bush, keep him humble and out of politics, the casinos, women’s private parts and help him to realise that he needs help and need it now. Cayman, be kind to a broken man. I have seen how we turn on each other in times of sickness and sadness and often we do not recognise the mental or physical illness that causes the actions of others. No we do not condone bad behaviour but we can be kind in our punishment. Whatever we say to degrade Mr Bush (yes I know he does it on his own) we are hurting his family who do not deserve to suffer any more.
Though I am not as God-centric as you I find your post thoughtful and well put.
It’s not hard to live your life without ever being accused of grabbing a strange woman’s behind. Why does he have so much trouble acting like a normal person.
That. Is Brilliant! And funny. Thank you
Because he isn’t a normal person. He is a creep.
He should step down fr govt 4 good because of continues behaviour that is casting negative light over CI!!
Black Lives Matter stand with you Dr. Bush!!!
Deadhead
Troll.
Seminole ladies rights matter too.
Let us not quick to throw stones. There is no perfect man on earth. I love to give friendly hugs . when I do this is it wrong?
I’ll use small words, so you understand. If you give “friendly hugs” to someone who doesn’t want it, which involves touching the buttocks, yes, it is wrong. Actionable. Illegal. Immoral. WRONG.
Cayman Christianity on show again. Pure hypocrites. Anthony Eden will be saying at least he’s not gay.
Olde English proverb. ‘ Do not touch what yee cannot afford. ‘
Does anyone else $mell a $mall (undisclosed) $ettlement in the air?
This is not an uncommon type of incident in casino’s where there’s lots of booze, over-friendly waitresses in ‘eye-catching attire and players with their emotions running high …
Whether it be right or wrong, the whole environment seems designed to create exactly this sort of scenario … I wonder if “The House” takes a cut of any settlements?
Even still, it’s not appropriate in today’s world. If it was his wife or girlfriend fine. But this is unacceptable behaviour for someone who is representing a supposedly Conservative Christian Island. Elected officials need to be held to a higher standard.
Lodge connections and will be free
Do you serious think he is a Mason? No way he could ever be a brother.
Oh please… don’t start with “the brothers” now. They are the least of saints. Maybe you are but most of them are no different from mckeeva
A secret club. How cute.
It has been reported this was a professional dealer. You don’t touch or go near the dealers or wait staff at any casino. Ever. Probably 15 camera angles on the incident. Caught red handed being a slobby train wreck.
Is there a policy to say that you can’t put this on the gowerments credit card?
I don’t know whether McKeeva should resign, but I do know that Alden needs to speak up.
The Premier would probably say something along the lines of “everyone is presumed innocent until proved to be guilty, unless their first name is Kenneth.”
Oh God, I love Karma!
Kenneth the convicted cocaine dealer you mean, or a different one?
He was a convicted cocaine dealer before the Premier hired him. He was arrested for a separate offence when he was fired.
And then acquitted! Did he get his job back? No! Did he find another for himself? Yes. Sorry Marco! Dumb move Alden! Now, where are those principles we expect our leaders to uphold?
Acquitted? Wrong.
Convicted?
Yes.
“conviction noun (CRIME)
C2 [ C or U ] the fact of officially being found to be guilty of a particular crime, or the act of officially finding someone guilty:”
Found guilty, but no conviction recorded.
https://caymannewsservice.com/2016/02/bryan-guilty-of-assault-but-no-conviction-recorded/
“In order to ensure his future [political] ambitions were not derailed any further” …not a comment you normally hear from a judge.
If the others with dirty back yards resign only then should Mack resign.
Leave Mr Bush alone all you foreigners who hate our country. He is a good man who is innocent. This was a setup.
Are you completely insane?
Yes but I got status in his give a way!
People like you are what’s wrong with this island.
How, exactly — in your mind — would this “setup” be accomplished? Someone whisper in Bush’s ear that the dealer has the hots for him and desperately wants him to grope her? If that were true, would it even begin to excuse his aberrant behaviour? No, not even close.
You are funny. Canadian?
?????? the defender of the grabber
Looks like 20 of his hirelings voted.
If McKeeva would ask for forgiveness and say he is in counselling, he might be able to continue but he will not take personal responsibility.
He has to understand that times have changed. Women and blacks and other miniorities have rights and they expect to be able to walk and work anywhere and not have sexual harrassment.
Gone are the days when women, gays, blacks and other oppressed people have to put up with put downs and other assorted garbage.
He should ask forgiveness and ask to move on or he should be removed from office.
You’re not from Cayman, talking like that.
You’re exhibiting jerk-like behavior.
Of course he should resign. Grabbing a woman and pawing her butt is not culturally acceptable anywhere, especially by a so called leader. Time for this particular dinosaur to disappear as the others did.
Unless you’re the President of the United States of course…
At least the MAJORITY of voters were against him. And still are.
This big time Christian, who won a victory for his party some years ago, by campaigning on not allowing gambling casinos in the Cayman Islands. Had all the churches backing him.
Yet he is always off island gambling at the casinos.
Such a disgrace!
No. Free Big Mac!
Fine with me, as long as you “free” him to another country where he cannot continue to embarrass the Cayman Islands.
Nice plan, but he wasn’t in Cayman this time. He still embarrassed us.
Free Steve!
