CIG to press on with cruise port plan
(CNS): In an announcement greeted by a stunned silence at the Ritz-Carlton Wednesday, the premier said that government is pressing ahead with the cruise port facility. With no formal Cabinet decision or the PWC updated business case and in the absence of the ministers for the environment and finance, Alden McLaughlin said government was moving to the next stage. As the environmental impact assessment has indicated that Seven Mile Beach is not under threat, the premier said Cayman was faced with protecting its economy or protecting the environment, as he revealed that CIG would now discuss with the UK and cruise lines about how the project will be financed.
In a speech that received very little reaction from the Chamber of Commerce audience at its annual Legislative Lunch, the premier, as had been suspected, made the announcement that despite the massive environmental damage expected, government still wants to press on. He said that the business case was “favourable”, though the updated review has not been made public.
He said that Cayman was the only Caribbean destination that did not have cruise piers and if it was to retain the cruise business it had developed over the last forty years, it needed a dock.
Check back to CNS later for more on this story and other announcements from the premier at the annual business-political lunch hosted by the Chamber.

Scaremongering again, dredging harbour in GT which is approximatly 2 miles from the beach will have no effect on 7 mile beach. GT harbour is already a deep port , no current or tides flows towards the beach from the port, there will be no break water or bulkheads built to change the direction of currents.
There are living EIA studies carried out on 90 years of dredging for aggregate around the coast of England in similar dept water. The results; no erosions to their beaches, no change of tide direction, no change of tide movement, no change in wave heights. These are real EIA studies that continued for almost 100 years, should any adverse effect to their enviornment appears on the chart, no more dredging for aggregate would be allowed, the British are very intelligent, they depend on practical experiences and not speculations or emotions when carrying out any projects.
A no confidence motion is cooking right now against the premier Stay tune for more…….
About time.
All the cruise dock will accomplish is “more people more trash” and a destroyed reef as Grand Cayman is a wonderful dive destination and will work fine with out a cruise dock.. Until the garbage dump issues are resolve why create a bigger issues, Seriously a trash burning system that creates electric power should be put in such as what Palm beach Fl has done and with the improved infrastructure Grand Cayman can move fwd on additional tourism and keep our island unique not just a stop on a boat ride around the Caribbean
The dump issues need fixing but this is true dock or no dock.
To me it sounds like PM has that under control too. New dump, new recycling, new cruise and cargo, new airport……
THIS JUST MIGHT BE THE BEST CI GOVERNMENT EVER!!!
Oh yea except that they are too busy going to private events to even show up for caucus meetings. Alden is a disgrace so are many others that are “running this country into the ground”
Not a Progressives fan but I must say great move Mr Premier….this is for the future of Cayman. Don’t have to fly out to board a Carnival shortly. Time to roll in the casinos
I find it interesting that every single comment against the cruise docks has more dislikes than likes and every single comment for the cruise docks has more likes than dislikes. The people who are voting with their clicks seem to have made their preferences known.
Or work at Kirk Freeport
But you must remember how active the Kirk-bots have been. The thumbs are not representative.
A fool and our money are soon parted.
Where is the money to build this. Ppm please wake up and do not borrow more
Cruise lines, private funding, increased revenue from the cruisers……..
Bring on the nearly deads, the newly weds and the over feds. Let them harass the crap out of everyone on George Town, West Bay rd, and Seven mile beach.
So in other words: nothing new?
Our inability to borrow this kind of money ($300,000,000) is a reality. We can’t even remediate the dump for 3% of that, or finish the JGHS for 1.5% of that. The FCO is ALL in favor of showing that our consumption based tax regime didn’t work. Leaping into a massive capital project like this is just the kind of economic suicide they’d like us to explore. Other islands had at least a business case and guaranteed passenger volumes before plunging into their financial and ecological disasters. We’re going to show the planet a whole new level of stupid, and then seal it by joining the world of direct taxation.
Your prose makes you sound smart but your context proves otherwise.
The CBF will generate money unlike the dump and school, funds generated by the CBF can help meet these shortfalls.
The business case is there but you can chose to read it or not, can’t wait for the updated version by the way.
Cayman will end up being the best example and leader in the Caribbean. All that is needed is a comprehensive restructuring of traffic, pedestrianization and land re-zoning plans to marry the whole package together.
Cuba looks better everyday. Thanks Alden an educated fool. 250 millon in the red for cayman islands thanks for the surplus for the past two years.
Very strange decision, from both economic and environmental perspectives. Who does the government serve, the people or a handful of wealthy merchants? The answer is clear. The conflicts of interest are almost unbelievable. If this project does indeed go ahead (financing is another matter to resolve) I’m convinced time will prove this to be a scandalous disaster.
Don’t worry my friend, the funding is in place.
I am assuming the “likes” are mostly Caymanians and the “dislikes” are mostly tourists. The latter have the option of now voting with their legs, and spending their time and money elsewhere. Won’t change my time on island as I stay exclusively in North Side.
Dude, I gave more than 100 thumbs to one post yesterday alone. Wake up and pay attention, just pay no attention to the thumbs.
Then you have no idea who you are talking to. All the Caymanians I know (and I am one) are dead against this, except for a chosen few who have their own self preservation at heart.
If you’ve been reading the news lately, the Pope has been bringing attention to the world about the demise of the world environment. The environment in the Cayman Islands is what sets it apart from all the other islands for tourism income. What jobs will be created from this dock? Statistics show that the majority of customer service employment comes from permit holders who are desperate for the low wages offered. Other than that argument, what changes will be necessary to accommodate the strain on the area infrastructure for these extra large cruise ships? Does the public understand that the majority of passengers pay a paltry $300 pp, which means they are not the middle class with excessive money to spend on our island, thus no economic benefit. So, who makes the real profit – that’s the bottom line with this bold and independent announcement?
A Regressive government sold Cayman out to a bunch of greedy fake patriots. SMH
Well I’m elated and surprised . Mr.Alden McLaughlin I felt you would see the deception these environmentalists were portraying .Thank you from every Caymanian on this island who saw the light.
If you thought Alden wasn’t going to give in to the Kirkconnells, raise your right hand.
If you voted for Alden in the last election, raise your left hand.
Now walk around like that for the next week, stupid fools!
Dahwhahyuhget
If you think the Kirkconnells are the only beneficiary of the millions of dollars spent here by cruise tourists, you are the “stupid fool”. It’s very convenient to burn a successful Caymanian family at the stake if you are unaware of the Islands history and the contributions made by all of the old families.
Contributions like the bulldozing of Fort George maybe?
Yes, and slavery, let’s not forget that!
They are Jamaicans, nah true?
Who is Jamaican?
Kirkconnels are definitely not Jamaican. Well maybe Carol but she married in. All the rest are 7 Generationers or at least that’s what I heard on the radio.
Nice to see greed and graft trump common sense yet again. Good to know that some Cayman traditions will never die 🙂
The speculative financial benefits do not even remotely equate to the guaranteed risks.
Actually most of the risks have been debunked. I hope for the near release of the economic reports so we know the whole picture on that side
This dock isn’t going to affect the beach at all.
This dock will ensure that the economy thrives and produces jobs to employ our fellow Caymanians rather than leave them out on the street to turn to a life of crime. Our island depends on many areas and they all have to make sense for the entire island to succeed.
If we turn our back on cruise we will lose it and the whole place will suffer.
The amount of reef that will be taken out is minuscule and is not used as a productive dive site at all. This was being used as an excuse and I have dived my whole life so I know what I am talking about.
Build the dock. Save the People.
Alden and PPM dug a 100 million grave last time called the ‘school’ and now a bigger grave worth 250 million. A global recession is around the corner – brace for it fellow caymanians
Actually this project will help fill all the other holes. This one actually helps make funds not just take away.
How can few people elected to serve public interests go against public interests? Is this country ruled by a democracy? It doesnt look so. The Cayman Islands is framed as a democracy, suggesting that we the people govern this country and elect its officials, but the truth of that matter is that a democracy does not exist here. Rather, the nation is ruled by many, those many being the key families.
Mark my words- This house of cards will fall Cayman!
“Announcement greeted by a stunned silence at the Ritz Carlton”. Stunned is about right, but more like disturbed. I, as a Caymanian, am utterly perplexed by this decision. Thinking about it nearly led me into 2 car collisions because I was in such shock that I couldn’t focus.
Our Premier stated that, “Cayman was faced with protecting its economy or protecting the environment” the environment obviously taking a hit for the team. Let me be the first to say, that I AM a business owner on the waterfront in George Town. The influx of cruise passengers would indeed increase my profits at the end of the day. In saying that, if I was given a choice with improving my sales, or protecting the IRREPLACEABLE crystal clear waters that in which I swim in, I love, I grew up in, and I look out onto every single day… it would not even be a choice. On such a small area to live on, in which we all have to share (tourists and locals alike) I do not understand how the underwater environment (one of our largest assets in tourism) can be so utterly disregarded. This is not coming from and “eco-maniac” or “tree hugger” or “crazy environmentalist” This is coming from a local caymanian business owner, who wants to see their small precious island protected, that doesn’t just include the people, but ALL living things. My business and others may benefit, but what about all the others that won’t? What about the numerous snorkel and dive shops? Atlantis boats? Eden rock centre? Sunset House? They will all go under, this is not a win win situation, infact many will lose, including our incredible undersea wildlife.
When these massive oasis size ships come in to dock, we DO NOT have the infrastructure to accommodate the masses of people streaming off of them. When there are 8 ships anchored currently in the winter it is near impossible to get through town the way it is. Has anybody thought this far ahead? Offices and people who drive in town will virtually be locked in like prisoners. Why haven’t we thought of building a brand new holding facility(ies) in town to hold the passengers while they wait to get on the tenders? For much less money you could build beautiful air-conditioned holding buildings, much like you see in British Columbia with the BC Ferries. Buildings that you can put more shops and bars into, so people can enjoy their time and be comfortable while waiting, increasing jobs and business options. That may not be the answer, but it is worth hearing more solutions that just a terrible plan destroying acres of our pristine reefs.
Thanks if you read this far I am clearly so distraught over this decision, and only hope my children will be able to see some of the things I appreciated so much growing up here.
Sincerely,
Distressed Caymanian
Thank you for your eloquent comments.
So sorry that everyone who expresses such concerns has to separate themselves from the bogeyme – “eco-maniac” or “tree hugger” or “crazy environmentalist” -erected by those with only their own profit in mind.
So your solution to the whole problem is to create a “holding” area to make people wait more in?
It already takes 3 hours to get everyone off the ship then another 3 to get them back on.
Seriously?
I don’t know about distraught but maybe delusional
Distressed Caymanian – Thank you so very much for writing this. Very representative of the opinion of most of Caymanians. Well said!
I the end the right thing has been done.
This project will solidify the future for our children and grand children.
We all need to come together to make sure that government now sticks to their word and hold them accountable to make the least environmental impact possible.
ABOUT TIME!!!! Cayman needs this port to attract more visitors to our islands. Cruise ships make up for one of our BIGGEST industries which is tourism. Imagine the new business opportunities that can now be created and imagine the development in our local businesses. Everyone complains our Caymanians dont have jobs because of expats? Well here is the opportunity to become an entrepreneur and create something unique. Whats wrong with getting more money to our economy and local businesses generating revenue from more tourists coming to our islands? WAKE UP CAYMAN! This is the future.. we aren’t living in the pass. You have to make these beneficial investments to succeed. Now tourist have the ability to view our beautiful island longer and spend more money.
I could not agree with you more. This was sorely needed for our island and our people.
You need to wake up and realise that there are mistakes that cannot be undone such as taking on 300m$ in debt. Here was an opportunity to be unique now we will be just like every other cruise stop and by the way with advances in technology who says cruise ships won’t be redundant in 50 years time?
Clueless. That how you can summarize the above anon 3:58 statement and this decision. Cruise ship passengers of today aren’t the same as the ones of the past. in the past going on a cruise was a high end more intimate thing with smaller boats. People with money don’t want to be crammed into these floating cities of today so i am sure the average income of the passenger is less today than it was in the past.
This is why the Kirkconnells are seeing a decline in their profits. The cruise ship passengers of today aren’t coming off the boat to by any jewelry. You are lucky if they spend any money on food or beverages. These floating cities provide much better dinning experiences than the cruise ships of the past.
We much change with the world not just try to do more of the same. Its the people with weak world vision that want to dig their heals, or heads for that matter, in the sand and pretend that things will always be the same.
Throwing more money at a poor business model won’t make you more money and this is what is happening here. Cayman needs to be branded better so that more people will come and vacation here, spending money, not just taking a pit-stop to look around and leave. Hopefully there are enough people with the combination of good sense and lack or greed in place to stop this before it is too late
Actually the only reason the cruisers of today (in Cayman) might seem that way is because we are missing the Oasis class ships year round.
BIG MISTAKE ALDEN–You and your government deserve to be kicked out–you are not fit to govern these beautiful Islands. Hopefully our people will have enough good sense to get rid of the bunch of you in 2017!! THE PPM GOVERNMENT IS DESTROYING THESE ISLANDS, AND GETTING THEIR PRIORITIES ALL WRONG!! The TOP PRIORITY OF THE PPM GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE DUMP (AKA “MOUNT TRASHMORE”…not the destruction of our environment.
If 1.6 – 1.8 million cruise visitors are not already an incentive for our latent entrepreneurs I doubt if 2.1 will make any difference. I won’t get up from under the grape tree for less than 3.
You really need to check your comments. Cruise tourism does nothing but pollute and downgrade the offering. The people with the real discretionary funds to spend are the stay over tourists. If you are in the retail industry, you need to wake up and push to improve the airport. $55 million is a joke compared to the dock. Would you rather sell 1 million $5 t-shirts or 100,000 $50 pieces of jewellery, watches, or the money spent at restaurants, bars, hair salons, and all the other service providers. Take your shades off and look around. Cruise tourism does nothing to support our many restaurants, entertainers, local musicians, supermarkets, high end duty free….and I could go on. The beautiful island will be lost, and the people with free disposable funds will *poof* disappear.
PPM are puppets for merchant class. Moses K proving to all he is the power and next premier
For a while there I was worried that all this made up overblown crazy environmental scenarios of the end of coral as we know it were gong to get in the way of common sense and good judgement. PPM you have restored my faith.
This is the reason I voted for you, this is the reason we all voted for you.
Keep up the good work.
I am right dey wit ya brother.
We just had such a slow time and it could have been so much better if we was getting the Oasis ships the whole time. people need to wake up and realize that just because they can sit up in those tall office buildings and look down doesn’t mean they have to forget about the little people. This makes sure I can feed my family even if they don’t care.
just don’t expect to be feeding your family reef fish 🙂
Yep, because all the “little people” are sitting at their computers and updaing on their iPhones to post on CNS at 4 pm on a weekday.
Well I never voted for the PPM but I believe that this cruise & port project is best for Cayman. The jobs will be created, we just need to be certain that we don’t act like our usual laid back Caymanians and insist that these jobs are ‘only’ for Caymanians. When its built they will come and despite the doom & gloom of the environmentalist, a few acres of coral sacrificed to enhance the port for the next 30+ years, will not destroy Cayman. Glad the PPM finally took a bold step and didn’t let the $ lobbyist that supported them, dictate against a port that will benefit ‘all of Cayman’
Too bad we now have to take matters in our own hands!!! Sorry Cayman, but the good now going bad!!!!;
I’m with you!
I can’t believe these clowns didn’t learn anything from the school projects which cost an awful lot less than this monstrosity. The Cayman Islands is officially morally and financially bankrupt!!!
This cruise dock will make sure we don’t go bankrupt you fool.
This is one of the life lines of our capital and the cargo dock is the life line of all of us.
If we don’t build it now we have to build it later. Cayman needs this bad.
If he is accountable for your jobs remember he is also accountable for the very means by which your jobs exist. Or are you – say – a software engineer at Enterprise City?
How does borrowing $300mln when our loan book is already maxed-out save us financially? There is no public assurance of increased passenger vol, and the outlook is for our current 6-7 cruise ship days to shrink to 4? Oh, and the certain degradation of our prime tourism product – the waters.
Lets say it all together “Direct Taxation is coming, our Financial Services Industry is going”.
Cayman finally can move on and prosper. No more lies from the phony environmentalists.
Be careful what you wish for.
I never understood why the word “environmentalist” has such a negative connotation to it. If you are not and an environmentalist does that make you anti-environment? In what sadistic way does a person enjoy seeing the destruction of the very place they live? Sociopath!!
I don’t understand what Alden is trying to accomplish without official Cabinet approval? Either he has rallied enough support internally to go out and publicly announce this or he is intending to use this to bully his Cabinet into ‘not making him look foolish’ when it comes down to the official vote…Either way, it’s premature.
So one wealthy family really CAN dictate what happens in a supposed democracy. I had hoped beyond all hope that it wasn’t so. Silly me.
And the rich get richer…at the cost of their own nation’s natural resources…
What a shame. I hope Cabinet puts him in his place.
Enjoy being Premiere while you can because you just hammered the last nail in your coffin as far as being reelected/leader. The fight will be between Moses and Wayne for Premier going forward. Especially if Wayne opposes the Port 🙂
I don’t think so!
Really? Really? Your comments are so transparent, everyone can see you’re just trying to influence Minister Panton. News flash — he’s way smarter than you.
Remember he is the Minister for Commerce too. He is accountable to all of us out here trying to make a living. He has to make balanced decisions and consider the importance of our jobs and community.
5:14 If you can find me any government minister in this government or the last one who is smarter than a conch I’ll take your comment seriously. It really is a case of the lunatics running the asylum here. There’s no valid cost/benefit study for this project and absolutely no long term commitment from the cruise lines to keep using the dock throughout its projected cost recovery period. You can’t build something like this without being 110% certain it will pay for itself but that is exactly what is happening here.
Kirkconnell family a win situation.
Moses and Gerry are laughing all the way to the bank after this announcement. Sad irony is the Premier is too egotistical to see how they pimped him out for all the world to see
All Caymanian families are now facing a win situation, and that does include the Kirkconnells. I’m sure a few foreign divemasters may consider this a loss, and the tender company, but hats about it.
Corruption in its finest hour.
1,2,3,4.. I declare thumb war.
Get a life.
This is truly disappointing. I’m heartbroken for my children and grandchildren. Not only will this destroy our environment it will get us into unimaginable debt for decades to come. The other negative impact will be on Stingray City, 7 Mile Beach, and other tourist destinations on island due to overcrowding, which will make for an unpleasant situation for residents, cruise passengers and stay-over visitors. I feel defeated and depressed over the short-sightedness of the PPM. I did not vote for them EVER and I surely won’t be considering it in future either. I hope the UK steps in and stops this madness immediately.
Mac gave away Seven mile Beach and Alden destroyed the Harbour!! If it wasn’t so serious it’d be laughable. And they goin to the house and blame each other. Educated Fools!!!!
Errr. Mac and educated shouldn’t go in the same sentence.
Actually Alden just made sure we didn’t have to give away anything.
Mac wanted to give town to the Chinese.
At least this way it will stay for the Caymanians.
Keep going Alden and PPM, well done. Don’t listen to these foreign environmental groups. Most of them don’t even live here
Educated beyond intelligence.
Good bye to our iconic unique Harbour! Now we will mirror every other Caribbean destination.Power is a dangerous thing.
The End.
Was it as good for you as it was for me?
I don’t really care how it was for you. I am using you and you don’t know it.
Alden I would like to thank you for not buckling under the pressure of foreign environmentalists. This government has laid in place multiple ifrastructure projects that are sorely needed for the success of our islands. No other government before you has been able to do anything more than lip service
I couldn’t agree more. Congratulations to Alden and all the PPM. This is proof you can tackle the difficult decisions in a rational, no nonsense way.
The rationale is as absent as the funding.
I wonder how the pier will affect the amount of Driftwood on these islands.
“the premier said Cayman was faced with protecting its economy or protecting the environment”
…It’s a damn shame this so called leader can’t see the environment is crucial to our economy! People come here to experience our beautiful natural environment NOT to see a concrete jungle crawling with roughneck cruiseshippers!!!!!!!
Your mind is made up, you don’t need the facts.
With all the development that has taken place in cayman over the past decades, (and by the way cayman is less than 20% developed) if your reasoning was correct tourism would be shrinking not growing to the highest numbers ever.
But why let the facts get in the way of ideology.
Who did not see this coming? The government is a bunch of corrupt greedy fools! Once the damage is done, its irreversible. What are you going to do then? What divers would want to come here after? NONE. Good Job Alden & the rest of you fossils.
No we will have bad debt and taxes- if only my fellow Caymanians could see past their own noses.
Jobs for three years and then nothing…real smart.
3 years of construction so yes construction boom but after that the jobs are 1000+ in the most conservative scenario
“Who cares about divers” this just sums up how ill informed people are. Divers are stay over tourists, stay over tourist bring the money to the islands to keep all the hotels / bars / eateries open. These places need staff, staff rent properties owned by Caymanians, buy things from supermarkets which keeps them open for Caymanians to shop in. Please dont dismiss divers just because they care about the environment.
We older Caymanians used to have a name for these kind of people:
“Salt Water People”
That’s because all you cold smell was salt and they only wanted the cheap drink specials, all inclusive, spend as little as possible, all you can eat places.
That’s the history of diving. Why do you think Sunset is not 5 Star rated?
Prediction: Visit Nassau and see what a mess their downtown is with the cruise port, visit any other Caribbean island. Cayman was built on being unique, the jewel of the Caribbean. I do not understand why we have to join other third world countries, this is where we are heading.
How can we guarantee we will increase the cruise passengers with new ports opening up in Cuba, Asia? The Caribbean is over cruised as it is…… and who wants to pay $800 per night to sit on a “seven mile beach” with all the cruisies? WE are at cruise passenger capacity as it is with 2 million passengers.
We will lose the overnight visitor who contributes much more. It is a shame this has been led by retailers who are too lazy or stupid to change their business model to suit.
This is the end of our island, Grand Cayman. Every person sitting on the Conservation Board should stand up and resign as it is obvious politics, and lining ones pockets takes precedence over the delicate balance of nature.
Instead of building and catering to the overnight passengers and medical tourism which brings in more money, and potentially continue to bring in more and more money….and building a world class airport we throw money and the environment away. Now we end up with a fancy cruise terminal and an airport whose design is terrible, dated back to the ’70s and only fit for a third world country.
Unfortunately, by the time we can vote these self serving politicians out, the damage will be done and we can kiss this all goodbye.
Why on God’s green earth would anyone want to visit Nassau?
@4:04 Fair comment but in a few years time they might be saying that about Grand Cayman.
That’s exactly the point idiot. No one will want to visit Cayman either if we make it just like everywhere else, with a ghetto around the capital full of pickpockets and street hustlers ready to exploit the heaving throngs of tourists that our infrastructure can’t handle. Wake up!
I have no idea, 4:04, but they do and bad mouthing them doesn’t stop it. When Cuba opens up, no one is going to want to come here or, likely, Nassau. It’s beautiful and genuinely historic and has a vibrant identifiable culture unlike …er…
Our fearless leader has assumed undisputed command of this Ship of Fools. Prepare yourself for disaster!
Please Please Please don’t do this!! How can the government not see what they are doing to their own island?! “Protecting the environment or protecting the economy” how is that even a choice? There are other ways to protect the economy but you can’t ever undo the damage to the environment. What gives the government the right to ruin part of my life? That is essentially what they will be doing.
They will destroy this entire country! Not only will they destroy the environment but they will take on way more debt to do it than this country could ever handle- taxes will be introduced and our kids will pay the price. Thanks for nothing Alden! I am so beyond disappointed!!!
Destroy our entire island? Give me a break. You must be one of the environmental crazies.
Stop fear mongering. They can’t take on more debt as per UK. The private sector will do it through Public Private Partnership.
Watch them apply for a court injunction to remove the divers hovering above the dredge site.
If Government had the financial wherewithal to do this, we would be chaining ourselves to the Balboa. The reality is however that they don’t, so there is nothing to be concerned about. Hands up if you really think this gets off the ground before 2017.
The fact that the Govt. Minister, our Deputy Premier is a beneficial owner in the Kirk Freeport chain of shops, who in turn are the biggest proponents for this monstrosity, is such a conflict of interest I cannot believe he has not been removed form his post in terms of dealing with this project.
The sheer fact that our Government is allowing them to essentially spearhead this entire development is a massive cause for concern and clearly demonstrates our Govt. could not give a rats ass about transparency and everything else they preach during elections.
This will kill our tourism product, and you will not have to wait until it’s finished. In this day and age when everything is going “green” and the environment is to be saved, that fact that our Govt. is willing to risk it, the very thing people come here for, is effing psychotic.
Some people are hard headed, but this group of people take the cake.
Ignorant comment as usual SSM345. You should think before you speak, or try to have a clue about about what you are talking about.
How will building a pier, as most other Caribbean islands have, kill our tourism product? If you argue that it will kill some coral, fine, but kill our tourism product? It actually will do that opposite. Ask PWC about the business case, pretty clear I’m sure, that it will actual generate a much bigger and stronger tourism product.
Not “kill some coral,” the majority of it. Plus frig up our clear blue waters and spread crap all over our beaches. Beautiful!!!
Moses owns nothing into Kirk Freeport.
You not seen the Stake Bay pier plan yet away?
Dude, whoever SSM345 is, if you have any evidence that the Minister is a beneficial owner then you should prove it. Otherwise, stop making sh#it up. It devalues all the comments on this site to just drivel.
My thoughts exactly. With the “speed” at which these career politicians deal with things here there is little chance this will happen before the next election.
If they want to make something a priority to have any chance of getting re-elected how about dealing with the dump instead of the port? That way they can say they are working on saving our precious environment rather than actively destroying it.
With the Dump as it is and destruction of the marine environment, kiss goodbye to the prosperous future the pro-dockers dream. Well, let them learn it the hard way.
But wouldn’t that damage it?
Idiot. Chain yourself to the Balboa. No court action needed. Just wait for you to get dragged down by the chain. You’ll run out of air and unchain yourself really quickly. If you don’t, you won’t be objecting for long.
Stop posting stupid comments
Can’t believe they made this decision, someone talk some sense into this man for our sake
This is horrendous. This government (heck, all our governments) is so short-sighted. RIP Cayman.
RIP cayman? What a joke. Over dramatic as always. How can so many islands in the Caribbean build a pier and not die? you need to get a grip
Alden you PATHETIC greedy stupid man! I WILL NOT VOTE FOR YOU OR ANY PPM EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Liar!!!!!!
You better save your prayers for yourself- you will need them and so will your kids who will pay for this. This house of cards will fall!
Is anyone really surprised?
Lol who didn’t see this coming?
Oh lordy, Mac is back in 2017!
Idiot….Mac had 4 project proposals for a port at far greater cost…where were you then…?
And together we will make Cayman great again!
