Doctor urges public to use free screening
(CNS): The Health Services Authority (HSA) is doing its part on World Health Day in the Cayman Islands by offering free health screenings for blood pressure and diabetes on 7-10 April. The free screenings will be offered at all District Health Centres, George Town General Practice, Faith Hospital, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, from 9am – 1pm.
Medical Officer of Health Dr Kiran Kumar said the free health screenings are part of the continued initiatives of the Public Health Department to emphasize the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, as well as to detect any health issues a patient may have early on so the adequate treatment can be provided and prevent any future complications.
Officials said no appointment is necessary and participants will immediately know the results of their screenings. Anyone interested in the free testing just needs to let the registration clerks know when they arrive. HSA officials said counseling and referrals will be offered if necessary.
Dr Kumar also reminded residents that the Public Health Department has installed blood pressure monitoring self-check stations at the Cayman Islands Hospital’s General Practice Unit, the entrance of the Cayman Islands Hospital, next to the elevators at Faith Hospital and in the lobby at the Government Administration Building.
HSA officials said these kiosks are to provide free access to staff, patients and visitors who pass through each location on a weekly basis, to better monitor their health needs. Residents can have access to these units during regular office hours.
