Mac ekes out a victory in close WBW race
(CNS): Mario EbanksMario Ebanks: Candidate for West Bay West. Chief Human Resources Officer at the Cayman Islands Airports Authority. Biography: • Eighth generation Caymanian, with great-grandparents from... More came very close to removing the longest serving member of Parliament Wednesday night in a very tight race for West Bay West. McKeeva BushMcKeeva Bush (CDP), West Bay West MLA Speaker of the LA, Leader of the Cayman Democratic Party. Biography: Bush is the longest serving member and... More was returned to office but his once hefty majority was sliced down to the wire, with Ebanks losing by just 27 votes.
Bush secured just over 51% of the vote, compared to his more than 72% in 2017 after the head to head battle in which Bush had to fight hard to win. It is clear that his assault conviction played a part in him losing a significant share of the vote in a district where he could once not only secure a massive victory for himself but carry the other three candidates as well.
However, Bush will be going to Parliament alone after Bernie Bush and Kathy Ebanks-Wilks secured their WBN and WBC seats, ousting the incumbent Captain Eugen Ebanks and keeping out the challenger, Rolston Anglin, both of whom were running in an alliance with Bush.
This means that the once central political figure will have little influence in the make-up of the new government and is unlikely to regain his prestigious office as speaker, given that the PPM have secured just enough of their own seats to be able to bargain with some of the new independents to ensure that they retain power.
The turnout for WBW was around 70% of registered voters. A total of 889 votes were cast, 458 for Bush and 431 for Ebanks.

Lone ranger, him and his donkey
Bye Mac. Knowing you was so unfortunate.
One more term form the “victimizer in chief” and hopefully his LAST! As one of his many victims in the past, I must condemn the foolish folk in WB for even considering putting this criminal back in Parliament. At least they had the good sense to finally get rid of his last (hopefully) pitiful ally in “Whogene!” The margin of victory in that constituency bodes well for the people of WB who have a modicum of sense.
Shame on these immoral 458 in West Bay West who voted for a Hell-bound recidivist self-enriching convicted criminal. If this doesn’t illustrate the depths of our community problems, I don’t know what does.
Are there any other countries that permit a convicted criminal to be elected to their national Parliament?. Time to change the law so can never be elected again. One other thought, what’s he going to do with his African dictator outfit, I don’t think the Museum would want it, maybe it can be given the honour of the first item to be incinerated in the waste to Energy project.
I hope the independents DON’T SELL OUT.
Take a look at this table. Please take a very good look.
How many of the Independents listed are “qualified” to be a Minister for even one ministry or multiple ministries.
A small handful!
Sadly, only, Wayne, Heather, Chris and possibly Andre are the only independent that could become Ministers. No one else is qualified, truly qualified to be a Minister. They still need the PPM.
The best choice would be for some of the newly elected MPs to join the PPM and become Councilors. That way they will get the opportunity to advocate for their consistency; be trained in the protocol of Parliament, and be better equipped in the next election to grab the bull by the horns and take a lead.
Otherwise, the Independents will get no where if they do not join PPM in forming a coalition government. Their constituents will be upset that their MP who championed and promised so much, was elected and got nothing done. It would have been better to have their former incumbents in, as they made noise and know the game and how to play it well.
I am imploring all elected MPs of the Cayman Islands, to put away their pride and do what is best for this country. We need to get the ball rolling and start working on a united front. Country First, all egos last please.
I am not in favour of any party or supporter of any. I just want what is best for my country, our country. If we had more Independents that were well equipped to become Ministers, then the game would be different. Unfortunately, they do not have the skills and experience to form a Government and lead us all. We can give them a chance, but more than likely, they will crumble from lack of knowledge and no clear leadership as each will want to advocate their own agenda to ensure that they get re-elected.
Please think of the big picture. Think of what’s best for Cayman.
We should all be ashamed that this disgusting man retains any place at all in our public life.
Disgusting!
Hallelujah!
Pity he didn’t lose though. A real pity. But at least his stranglehold on the Country has ended. Hopefully! Sure hope none of the other donkeys try to prop him up.
Let him sit across the aisle for the next four years and get pooed on every time the House meets.
Lmao good job people!!!!!!!!111!11!!11!
What a shame to and for this country . While his strength may be diminished that uncouth mouth and every thing negative that goes with it will still desecrate our House of Larliament. Don’t worry though times Dey are changing busha they have changed for you.
Put him in a corner cabinet and forget about him.
Disgusting man. A good chunk of WBW voters have let down a lot of people.
What does it say about us West Bayers that we would subject ourselves to vote for this drunk, woman beater and gambler?
Shame WBW! I expected better.
Congrats Mario for trying to make us look decent again.
McKeeva is going to be very lonely if Jay, Isaac and Andre join the PPM as expected.
