Family flew to Brac after GTPS COVID outbreak
(CNS): The Health Services Authority issued a press release Thursday which implies that three people from Grand Cayman, including a child from the George Town Primary School where an outbreak of COVID-19 was revealed on Monday, flew to Cayman Brac instead of isolating at home in a suspected breach of quarantine rules. In the release, officials said all of the family members, including the student, tested negative for COVID-19 at Faith Hospital and will now remain in home isolation for 14 days or until otherwise instructed by Public Health.
They also said there was no cause for public health concern at this time but reminded people there are legal consequences for not adhering to mandatory isolation.
All George Town Primary School households must continue to isolate, whether results have been received or not, until they are contacted by a Public Health or Education official.
Since the three people who flew to the Brac have tested negative, it is very unlikely that they spread the disease over the last few days, even if they do go on to develop COVID-19 over the next few days.
However, there are concerns about other families with a child at the school breaching isolation rules while they were waiting to be tested or for results from those tests over the last few days, as well as concerns over today’s news that a prison officer has tested positive.
Government is not expected to hold a press conference today but GIS has confirmed it will be releasing information on the latest cases later today.

From time the American nurse and her husband got away with that quarantine breach on the Brac we got nothing but breaches happing there!
Why do people make excuses for people that breaks the quartantine and other laws. That’s a big problem in these cayman islands. Big fines and or jail time, no excuses.
I’m so confused now about why tourists are considered to be the problem here?!!
CIG needs to actually monitor all other GTPS parents/families as well. Because – I saw a whole group of them out at Salty’s playing bingo on Friday night, and then they were posting all kind of stay-cation pics on Saturday & Sunday….
Reported them too and nothing happened.
So who is actually even checking in with these families to ensure that they are staying home? Anyone? Nope. No one, as per usual.
Why would theses people take their child out of school a few weeks after school opens ? They claim they didn’t know about the c-virus in that school. BULL . There supposed to be a law about taking a child out of school.
4:54 pm. They have a house on Stake Bay Bluff road . Brackers know their name.
What ever happened to the reportedly covid positive man who broke out of government quarantine got sent home then broke out again? Anything? Is it any wonder people are treating quarantine and isolation so casually? We only seem to prosecute visitors.
Name and Shame the parents!!
Why?
Of course they KNEW!! If they can provide that the plane and hotel reservations were made PRIOR to the announcement of an outbreak, then so be it and bless their hearts.
It would take the keystone cops to miss this one folks?
1.) The entire country told about GTPS outbreak.
2.) Kid stays home
2.) Parents call employers
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! lets go to da Brac
5.) Oopsie = “caught” BREACHING Government mandate.
Hope is not a strategy and ignorance is not bliss (nor believed by any court in this case.) Give JAIL TIME for such a calculated move.
We simply are our own worse problem and did anyone hear about the (20) cases that went to court this week? Now that would be newsworthy? Thank you CNS.
Will not happen
Sabrina read out a concocted story during the Friday Press Conference that goes something like this,
“they (presumably the adult/s) did not know that there was a COVID outbreak at the school…
Perfectly innocent
Will not be charged with an breach
Then why was the child out of school? Well connected people never face consequences!
Will not happen
Sabrina read out a concocted story during the Friday Press Conference that goes something like this,
“they (presumably the adult/s) did not know that there was a COVID outbreak at the school…
Perfectly innocent
Will not be charged with a breach, word!
Sabrina said that nobody will be charged for this alleged “breach”
It was all perfectly innocent
But the Jamaican woman on Cayman Airways is under investigation
Word!
That is a false equivalency.
Brackers already know who they are.
Nothing will happen u watch
One of our own people/family, maybe not have been born on the Brac but never the less one of our own. How irresponsible can people be. I mean they WASNT suppose to even go out of their yard let alone catch a flight. The kid was supposed to be in school RIGHT? so no excuse that it was “planned from long ago” etc.
Heard Minister Sabrina just say that they’re not considered to have breached the law because they were not aware of the GTPS outbreak. That happened on Monday and the school was shut down but on Wednesday these persons hadn’t heard about it? Didn’t they wonder why their child didn’t have to attend class?
What’s wrong with iso lating on the Brac? Don’t really see the problem.
? 10:39 ???? How is this even a question? When a flight arrives from INTERNATIONAL everyone on that flight has to “isolate or quarantine” whether it be Private or government facility, until cleared right? In this instance a family of a GTPS student, which was suppose to be self isolating in their home ON GRAND CAYMAN (meaning stay put, indoors and not even come out of the yard) unfortunately got on to a flight and came to another island. My understanding is the Family was unaware of the isolation order and only found out when they arrived on the Brac.. IF that is true then they must have decided to take the child out of school, left the Grand cayman Home, unknowing there was a isolation order, caught a express flight to his other home on the Brac, before the GTPS outbreak and isolation orders for all family members was imposed. If this is true then no harm done but ignorance to the law/rules is no excuse they say. Honestly don’t think these persons are that irresponsible to travel knowing they were suppose to be in isolation.. come on man!
Oh please…they knew. School was closed for goodness sake. Believing this story is pure stupidity.
Not sure why the whole school was closed. Was there a covid case in every classroom? Not from cayman so interested in knowing.
7:03 My last sentence was a attempt of sarcasm. 🙂 we all know that its a hard pill to swallow that the parents was unaware of the GTPS “outbreak” and lockdown. Argument still stands ” ignorance to the law/rules is no excuse”.
I’d like to know their Covid test results at the end of their quarantine period, only then will we truly be assured the selfish f*cker$ haven’t caused any issues over in the Brac.
This isn’t news worthy. They are negative and every vulnerable person on these islands can have the vaccination for free that will make them invulnerable As a nation we are so lucky compared to many parts of the world. Let’s move on with our lives and get vaccinated you idiots!!!
Signed, Mom.
Gibraltar: 99% vaccination of eligible adults, now experiencing the highest case load since the pandemic started. Look it up.
Are they all dying?
Yes. Everyone in Gibraltar is dead.
Not true. Look it up.
Irrelevant. Nobody dying.
8:33 This argument again!! DEATH RATE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO BE WORRIED ABOUT!
MARCH 16th PEAK DEATHS AT 94.
AS OF SEPT 14TH ONLY 3 additional recorded deaths!
*********YOU CAN STILL GET COVID WITH THE VACCINATION BUT LESS LIKELY TO DIE FROM IT!***********
Stop spreading fear and propaganda! let people decide if they want to take the Vaccination or not. Remember who we will ALL turn to if we get gravely sick, the same people that telling us to get Vaccinated!
I feel your stress. Anyone can contract or get sick from the virus; it would appear statistically less likely for those who are vaccinated.
I believe people should consult their doctor, and research for themselves, and make an informed decision.
Your use of capitals suggests panic and stress. It is eventually going to work out okay for the most of humanity, including the most of Caymanians, residents and others who makes up the “us”.
Right now the virus is in a state in which it mutates in the bodies of those whom it can infect; that can be vaccinated or unvaccinated. There is evidence that the unvaccinated are two times more likely to contract the virus, however I’ve not seen that peer-reviewed vetted. Not yet. I don’t doubt its veracity.
It is an evolving organism, much as other viruses and plagues throughout the ages.
I am for close support. I see a division between us all and I want for support. The world can fight about these issues, but we are small and know each other in some way or another. We are kith and kin, yeah?
So, people are telling us all what will happen with the virus and what it means and what we should do and why. I don’t truly think anyone “knows” what will evolve from this virus.
I think we have to look ahead, and plan ahead, and see which strategy works best for these three islands. I hear people slagging Panton, but I think he’s taking a safe standard. I like that. People can come and go, they just have to pay. They have to pay for the priviledge of this level of living. People who have to travel for health reasons, get assistance. It is likely that they should get more.
I did look it up because I didn’t believe you – and for good reason. The 7-day average of new cases in Gibraltar is 8. That isn’t even close to the high case load since the pandemic started. Gibraltar peaked at 180 new cases in December 2020. Christ, you idiots don’t know how to read even the simplest of data sets.
Re invulnerable The mRNA vaccines are for Covid-Classic, circa early 2020. So long as T and B Cell memory remains, they provide a little immunity head start for VOCs. There aren’t yet EUA boosters for B.1.351, or P.1, or B.1.617.2, though they are pending EUA at today’s FDA meeting. Vaccinated are not bulletproof and should continue taking the usual precautions.
It’s newsworthy when a family that is supposed to be in quarantine, breaks quarantine, flies to another island where a lot of elderly, vulnerable people live and demands to be tested at the hospital. Doesn’t even have the decency to call the hospital from their house on the bluff to ask to be tested at home.
Premeditated Breach, period? Cayman Airways can easily say when the tickets were purchased. Case closed:
1.) If they had “planned” this vacation September 15th; then they are poor parents for ignoring school truancy rules.
2.) If they booked their tickets after the first case announced, they were “fleeing” and guilty of Covid breach.
All depends on when they booked their tickets your Hon. Judge. I hope we get an update CNS.
Question are they related to anyone in a high position?
If someone gets covid and was in Kirk’s is everyone who stepped foot in there that day getting quarantined? It is the same thing. Unless this student was a close contact to a student with covid, then there is no reason they can not carry on with living. They tested negative. Just because they were in the same building does not mean they will be getting covid. They could have been on opposite sides of the building. Think. Don’t just over react.
I am high, but they aren’t related to me.
Remember Skylar. What’s good got the goose is good for the gander.
Remember Sklar and VJ
Young, pretty blonde American – perfect example to hold up in public. When it’s Caymanians, nope, no punishment, not details of names, nothing but cover up and excuses
If ONE positive case at GTPS was serious enough for our whole country to have to suffer new restrictions, they sure as hell better prosecute these fools. If they aren’t prosecuted fully, then you know that government doesn’t really care and it’s all a show.
They local bobo – that na happening.
True dat
I think most of us already know “that government doesn’t really care and it’s all a show.” As far back as I can remember it has been “Hooray for me and crumbs for you” !!!
Wealth breeds contempt for the great unwashed.
Tax the rich
That won’t happen, The rich rules!
Not the grammar police, obviously.
Dig that pearl.
#Caymancompetence.
The lack of any semblance of competence in Cayman is appalling. It is beyond comprehension how this was allowed. I’m sorry to be negative, but CIG last 20-30 yrs has been an international embarrassment.
We wish to be a player on the International Stage for finances, we wish to have respect for Caymanian Values that support family values, we wish to value foreign investment when compatible with local wishes and needs. But we fail in each instance. We ignore construction/development standards, we don’t enforce laws that are broken, we don’t really promote being inclusive to others, we elect and re-elect corrupt officials that in most developed countries would be in jail, we don’t protect our natural resources, we don’t support a good education system, we elect officials that have no real education in the portfolios the are assigned, we need foreign investment but publicly scorn their investment, we allow corrupt developers to develop properties which our councils have deemed poor, ………..
I’ll stop, as I suspect this all will be ignored, disliked or simply discounted; as it has been for far to many years.
I cry for my Cayman!
Most accurate comment I’ve ever read on this platform. I’m sure there have been many people who have had good intentions in positions to make a difference but they run up against relentless incompetence on all levels. When the biggest egos are your worst leaders, it only compounds the failures.
Unfortunately it isn’t incompetence, it is corruption. Corruption is woven into the fabric of society here.
If you think of all the small scale corruption that is accepted and encouraged.
“Treating” and running to the politicians to get help with problems.
It isn’t surprising that the serious large scale corruption in procurement and major projects goes on. When it costs $200m to build a $60m school where do people think the extra $140m went?
It goes on and on and no one bats an eye in the voting public because they get their little hand out or help with something from their politician.
Anonymous 6:13 pm:
I nominate your post for the “Best Comment of the Year” award !
And we keep importing poverty and privilege.
So somehow, you’ve only identified the government and all things “Caymanian” to be the source of the problems you stated. And in a typical fashion, offered no solutions to the decades-old problems which are nothing new to the islands. The detailed, unbiased analysis and in-depth research needed to tackle the problems is absent in the general populous, much less at the Government level. Hence why the same problems intensify decade after decade with no solutions on the horizon.
Selfish, stupid pricks. They should all be put in jail XXXX. I’ve been stuck at home for the last 48 hours (not mandatory) waiting for an update from the St Ignatius rumors to try and help out society, but what’s the point. Tossers
You really couldn’t make this stuff up. They must be so thick!
Thick ones that allowed or purposely let them through the airport and on the plane. Were they not checked?
CNS: Checked by whom and for what? There are no vaccination checks for travel between the three islands, no legitimate way CAL staff can ask about the health status of passengers, as far as I know. Immigration plays no part in domestic flights. So, who exactly should have asked what questions?
Thank you CNS. No blame on airline, this lies solely at the feet of the travelers who breeched quarantine.
If they can show their purchased their tickets for a September 15th family vacation before last Monday, then so be it and leave it at breaking school truancy policy on the second week of school??? (wow, bad parents)
But “if” they booked their ticket at the first news post, then they were “fleeing” a government ordered stay-at-home order.
Really simple, but poor form either way. One ends you up in JAIL (me hopes.)
7:22 pm, you are right, which parent going to take their child out of school 2 weeks after school opens for the term ? Government officials only covering up for them. So they won’t be prosecuted. Corruption ? What good to make laws then don’t enforce it ? Especially make silly, foolish excuses to not prosecute the guilty parties.
The responsibility lies with the parents. These BS excuses for their clear breach of law are protecting people who need to be prosecuted
… reminded people there are legal consequences for not adhering to mandatory isolation
Nice to be reminded, but thumbs up if you think nothing will be done about it.
Yet they had no hesitation arresting and jailing Skylar and using her as an example. Why aren’t you arresting and jailing all the others who have breached quarantine.
What’s that??? Aaaaah it is the locals breaching quarantine not travelers. So they’re exempt from the rules.
Ugh!!
Isn’t unequal application of laws a good indicator of corruption?
#leggewasright
Not as good as paying $200m for a $60m school to be built!
As much as I’d like to chalk that one up to corruption, Alden’s Folly was a case of political arrogance, ignorance and outrageous civil service incompetence. The fact that no one has been held responsible for this $200 million debacle is an outrage.
Did they really break quarantine?
They should be fined or sent to Jail
Won’t happen. They’ll know someone who knows someone who know someone who happens to be a very minor civil servant and it will all go away.
Selfish idiots
Totally ignorant selfish muppets. If they are not prosecuted for this there is no justice in Cayman…. smh
If the selfish quarantine violators are not Americans, there won’t be any punishment
Did they actually break the law? If so, what law?
Seriously, regardless of what you think of the isolation rules, how stupid can you get.
Don’t answer that.
Eventually, we’ll reach a point in Cayman where Covid numbers are reported without the story behind. We will only reach that point when the borders open, and there are so many cases that it doesn’t make sense to give anything more than the daily tally. But I do understand that right now that it’s just the novelty of it all, and the cases are few so giving one each a story is possible.
I’m disappointed that there was so much hype and encouragement for the population to get vaccinated, 71% are now fully vaxed, but officials are still scared to open the borders. What else are we waiting for? Where will the goalpost be moved to next? Maybe they’ll say all people over 50, plus healthcare workers and frontline staff must get the booster before setting a new opening date. Who knows.
We need to get on with life like the rest of the world, with covid. Living scared is no way to live.
5:09 I agree with you. Most of the policies are contradictory anyway…..e.g. quarantine a plane full of passengers but not the crew.
Hyping up every new positive is just to continue to control by fear.
Or the taxi drivers.
Exactly! It’s just a “song and dance” to give appearances of doing something.
I was with you until your last sentence. People aren’t scared, people don’t want to lose what we’ve been lucky to have these last 18 months and they’re just being cautious.
Don’t negate those feelings, it’s disrespectful.
Thank you. Negating people’s feelings is what is causing a lot of anger.
They must be a special kind of stupid! Hope they face serious legal consequences!
The point is, did the family KNOW they were negative? Well, how could they until they were tested in the Brac?
So, this family, in direct contravention of the isolation order, instead fled to the Brac. It is just dumb luck they didn’t start a Brac bloom. These people did the wrong thing. Dead wrong.
Was this family close contact to anyone at the school or just a family member went to the same school? It makes a big difference. Just attending the same school doesn’t make one a close contact. They tested negative. If they weren’t close contact and had a negative test, I would not be concerned.
Just being in the same building with some one with covid doesn’t mean you will get covid. You need to be close enough to catch those air droplets.
If they weren’t directly released from isolation by HSA, they were supposed to stay home!
Under what regulation?
Covid suppression regulations
Prove it.
Public Health
Read and understand those regulations and stop your diversionary tactics.
Be more specific.
There’s still time for the Brac ‘bloom’, they’re still within the incubation period so could still test positive in the next couple of days. If they’re not Caymanian I’d deport them, I’ll pay for their flights as well.
What do we do if they are Caymanian as I’m 90%+ sure that will be the case.
Do we make them go live in Canada…
9:49 am, if they are Caymanian fine and jail them, if not then do away with the quarantine, so the law would be fair for everyone
Exactly what isolation order was ignored?
name and shame them
They have no shame, so what’s the point
Dumber than a bag of rocks…
Dat wha ya get
Can we assume a “warning for intended prosecution”; or is endangering life and spreading a highly contagious disease one of those things (like fronting or corruption) that just get accepted around here?
Need to put big fines and some jail time in people that breaks the isolution/quarantine. No one since Skylark and Ramgee went to jail, but many, many people broke the quarantine.wgars wring with the system here. The law seems like its only for certain people. That woman that knew she was positive for the virus and still boarded CAL flight to Grand , should be given the max. 10,000 $ fine and 2 years in prison. And the people that allowed her to board the plane should be fired immeduately. The people that came to the Brac when they should have been in isolutiob in Grand should be fined 10,000 and if they test positive then jailed also. IF nothing is done, then more people going to do the same. What you think if people was not fined for say speeding, what they will do ?
My neighbor knows this family and they were fully vaccinated so they could have been spreading covid despite no symptoms and negative rapid tests administered. What a mess… seems like nobody cares anymore. Yet the borders remain closed.
The child can’t have been vaccinated as the primary school doesn’t have children over the age of 12…
It should, but due to social promotion, it doesn’t.
Good for them. Someone has to stand up to the draconian measures being imposed without reason beyond irrational fear.
But muh freedom to infect others!
What is wrong with people?
People are hypocritical, selfish assholes, that’s what’s wrong with them.
Facts!
Typical law-abiding Caymanians.
You sure? Many students at that school are not from these parts.
Expats…….always the expats.
Damn Canadians… not to be trusted.
Yeah, sure, expats sending their kids to GT Primary and then running off to the Eden that is Cayman Brac.
Sounds very much like expats to me
Expats go to Little Cayman mostly. And they don’t send their kids to George Town Primary. Of course there are some expats who do, but they can’t afford to go to East End, let alone get on a plane to the Sister Islands. These were Caymanians – for sure.
You’re right, they are expats
Caymanian expats
Not Bracers!
They’re probably those pesky Canadians gone to play dominoes and eat soldier crabs in the Brac.
Will the 3 in the Brac be charged ?
One is a child
Now these 2 SOBs (not the child) should be locked up again after the 14 quarantine lock-down.
Absolutely no regard for others.
I hope they get prosecuted!
Will other passengers on the flight to the brac be notified just in case these people show up positive in a few days. We know so many people test negative to fly only to be positive after 5 days quarantine.
Excellent point.
“An Education Official” has no legal authority to require a person or persons to remain in isolation. Not even sure that Public Health do.
