Ex-footballer found guilty of violent rampage
(CNS): Derrin Kennedy Ebanks (31), a former member of the Cayman Islands national football squad, was found guilty on Friday of a long list of charges relating to a violent, drunken rampage against three women last September. It took a jury just less than two hours to find him guilty of nine counts, which included several assault charges, damage to property, theft and unlawful confinement.
Ebanks had beaten the three women, two of whom were his former girlfriends, at two different homes in West Bay. Following the conviction Ebanks was bailed to return to court in November, when he will be sentenced.
Ebanks had been accused of turning up drunk and angry at the home of his child’s mother. He had proceeded to beat up the women and her friend, who was staying with her, fracturing the nose of one of them and knocking the other through a glass coffee table. He then moved on to the house of another former girlfriend, whom he terrorized and assaulted. He remained there for the whole night.
The one time national football star, who played for Cayman in the World Cup qualifiers in 2011, had denied all of the allegations and accused the women of provoking him and starting the fights.

he is such a good boy …just a little misunderstood
Always a pleasant chap when 9be seem him and it seemed just so out of character for him. Truly.
I’ve never spent 24/7 with him but acquaintances have and they were also shocked when the initial news broke.
The fact that he is out walking around loose at this point is just one more indication that the judges in Cayman need to get serious about crime. There is a story like this every week.
He was convicted of wounding (grievous bodily harm), 5 counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, wrongful confinement, theft and damage to property. He beat 1 man, 3 women and a puppy in one night and in front of a child. He is listed to appear for another domestic assault causing wounding..
He needs mental help. He needs substance abuse help. He needs to go to jail to learn he cant keep getting away with this behavior.
The fact he is allowed to walk to streets during this time to potentially hurt the victims or others is beyond mindblowing.
Derrin use your time to come back stronger than ever.
Don’t call it a comeback
In fact, just go away and don’t come back.
Stronger – so h can put them in the hospital next time? How about using his time to learn to deal with alcohol and his anger management issues.
Lol, exactly. Stupid people. And they vote.
And reproduce….
Yet another spoiled little Caymanian momma’s boy that’s never been held accountable and probably never held a real job in his life. The joke of a “National Team” is full of them unfortunately and girlfriend abuse is commonplace.
You can take them out of West Bay…
Contraception would make Cayman a better place.
All he needs now is a silly wig and a gavel.
You might as well put National tiddly-winks champion for all the kudos representing Cayman at Soccer gives you. He is hardly Lionel Messi.
Animal.
Poor lad, needs some help
He is not a “poor lad” he is a coward and a thug. But, you’re right he does need help. Hopefully he gets it over several years whilst he’s in prison.
You weren’t too clever were you Derrin, – if you had gone for just one woman you could have got away with a curfew, decided to take some time off work, and declared a self evaluation of mental strain and that you’d seek help.
I must apologise for the above but the whole thing still disgusts me to my core collectively in addition to the continued abuse of women and seeming disregard of the impact in light sentencing by the justice system of recent assault cases. Heartfelt empathy to Mr Ebanks victims, be strong, carry on and don’t permit this kind of assault/abuse to isolate you, your family or scar your souls, – I pray
This story is almost unbelievable. The young man needs a lot of help from mental health and substance abuse professionals. I truly hope he gets the help he clearly needs.
Is he qualified to be Speaker?
He is now.
I suspect not – because the Speaker was – deliberately? – only charged with common assault, which carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 12 months. You are banned from being an MLA if you are convicted of an offence carrying a potential sentence greater than 12 months, even if , like the Speaker, your actual sentence awarded is less than the maximum. This man was charged with offences carrying potential imprisonment term of longer than 12 months. So morally and ethically he is in the same class as Mac – but legally he isnt.
Pahahaha! That just made me spit my popcorn on the screen!!
I think it’s more of the whole history/backstory… It starts somewhere ya know. You new here?
Qualified for Northward!
9:33 – Overqualified!
31 is not a young man, but some people never become adults. Young men are 18-25
Recent sentencing precedent calls for a suspended sentence, a small fine and a few weeks of nighttime curfew.
Yet they grant him bail until November?
#confused
Exactly! Who wants to bet, that while on bail, he terrorizes these victims plus abuses a few more.
A lot more dogs to kick and women to terrorize; but I’m sure those were just cultural misunderstandings.
And according to another news site he has other cases involving violence pending. If that’s correct I’m not sure why CNS wouldn’t say that. But it’s astonishing and worrying that he wasn’t remanded in custody.
He hasn’t been sentenced yet … but then again that’s Cayman elsewhere he would have been remanded until sentencing … I guess he will be given a sweetheart of a sentence in November as he has two months to “behave and learn contrition” … but then that shows how home grown abusers are treated in Cayman C’est la vie!
Not everyone the same fam.
