Cayman Airways rolls out new flight schedule
(CNS): Cayman Airways Ltd (CAL) has updated its schedule for repatriation flights over the next two months from Grand Cayman to the US, Jamaica and Honduras. During September, while the borders remain closed, the national airline will run just three more flights to Miami and one to Kingston. But in October, after the expected opening of the border, CAL will offer a weekly service to Miami on Tuesdays and Kingston on Wednesdays. There will also be just one flight next month to La Ceiba on the 22 October.
The airline said travellers to the United States from Cayman must be US citizens or legally able to travel there. Even though Florida has the highest number of active COVID-19 cases in the whole of the United States — over 539,000 — there are no restrictions on travellers other than the requirement to wear a mask at Miami airport.
Travellers to Jamaica must secure authorisation from the Jamaican government before checking in for a flight. People arriving from Cayman do not need a COVID-19 test on arrival but are subject to a health screening and risk assessments by the health authorities. Passengers are required to wear a face mask throughout the airport in Kingston.
Only Honduran nationals will be allow to fly to La Ceiba and they will need to register online with the Honduran authorities prior to departure. Travellers will need to produce the negative results of a PCR test for the virus that is less than 72 hours old. Passengers must wear a mask at all times while in the airport and comply with biosafety measures before being subject to a 14-day quarantine.
Various measures will be in place for the health and safety of passengers and crew, including on outgoing flights. Passengers must arrive at check-in and boarding with their own face mask, which they must wear for the duration of the flight, and practice social distancing for the boarding process.
Cayman Airways asked all passengers to review and follow the policies in place for all the three countries regards entry requirements, baggage, pets, booking processes and the COVID-19 protocols.
Anyone wishing to travel outbound on these repatriation can book seats directly with Cayman Airways and do not need to seek government approval.
But all returning passengers must register their travel needs with the government’s TravelTime division by calling 649-6913, emailing traveltime@gov.ky, or completing the online form here.
As an evacuee, I am so happy. I have no idea why I spent so long in such a shit hole as the Cayman Islands. Yes, I know. The door did not hit my ass on the way out…it might have done, but I was so happy to be gone, I hardly noticed.
Enjoy your shit hole.
You have earned it and paid for it. I hope the toilet paper is gilt-edged, you deserve it.
Thank your politicians..yes, the Lodge ones which is most of them.
They are all rich, though.
I hope you folk in your million dollar houses (that are really worth 150k) are enjoying the blistering heat, the exorbitant prices, the crime and of course your inability to travel. Whatever floats your boat, Diana….lol.
Sour grapes from someone that took the ‘roads are paved with gold’ literally instead of enjoying the paradise that epitomizes that phrase. Island life isn’t for all. Not everyone has a sunny demeanor. For some, there are plenty of cold wet isolated miserable places on the planet and I for one hope you have found yours – perhaps you can chill that bruised ass and ego of yours in a swampy cesspool….
Wow! I would not want to cross your path in a dark alley.
Cayman is painting itself up in a corner. They can’t control this virus. The financial sector is doing well but only until the next financial crisis. The locals are so paranoid and the expats so selfish. I spent some time there and so glad I didn’t decide on moving there.
From reading your comments it seems that you got treated well in Cayman, and as deserved😉
I do hope your partner visits us In the future, from time to time… as she is very nice.
F*ck off and stay out. I can assure you that the likes of you were not wanted or needed, nor will you be missed.
You hated Cayman so much yet here you are commenting on a local news site. Can’t stay away huh? Take your stink personality to the news feed of whatever country your sorry a** wound up in. Stay off ours.
Jeez that must have felt sooo to write. And all you turning into childish name calling sore losers, trust me when I say that 12:09pm is not coming back to see you bash him for disagreeing with your idea of nirvana. I wish the person much success no matter where they settle.
You see, people CAN have a difference of opinion whether you like it or not.
I hate to say it but I agree with every single word and I am a 30 year old Caymanian. It is unfortunate that my only other option is a UK passport but I am working on that, so there.
Pre test before. Test at the airport. Test on day 5 or 7 whichever you choose and day 14. Skip the quarantine. Skip the bio button. Open your borders. Realize some cases may sneak in, but your economy will start to climb. Put back the social distancing. Put back the masks ( at least in public spots). Open up especially for high season.
Remind me again which countries with open borders have thriving economies?
Sweden
Sweden: GDP records largest contraction on record in Q2
https://www.focus-economics.com/countries/sweden/news/gdp/gdp-records-largest-contraction-on-record-in-q2
In Sweden, with a population of 10 million, 5835 people have died from Covid-19.
Denmark: Economy plunges at record rate in Q2
https://www.focus-economics.com/countries/denmark/news/gdp/economy-plunges-at-record-rate-in-q2
In Denmark, with a population of 6 million, 627 people have died from Covid-19.
Do you have any other compelling reason for suggesting that Cayman follow Sweden instead of Denmark?
You didn’t ask about “following” anyone. Look at your question. You didn’t mention anything about Covid or cases, or deaths. Maybe you need to chill out a little, you seem to have an angry red chip on your shoulder making you overstep your own questions.
I wouldn’t worry about a thriving tourism right now, but I would want to at least get it moving. People up north can travel for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and 1-2 school vacation weeks before the end of April. That’s a lot of tourists planning to go elsewhere if Cayman remains closed. Think of the huge bump Cayman got when islands were closed due to hurricane destruction…. and some people fell in love with their new destination choice. Think outside the box!
yep..good plan…still will result in massive recession and economic failure for cayman.
Offer travel incentives.
Most tourists will come in contact with locals at 4 places: airports- masks already required, hotels- require masks in public spots, transportation- masks already required, restaurants- require masks in and out and add spacing. May be some inconvenience for staff, but economy gets rolling! Most other times tourists are outside enjoying the sea.
Masks are no longer required to go in and out of restaurants.
Testing is irrelevant.
The originator of the test would have told you so. (RIP)
Testing for DNA fragments is not indicative of infection.
Masks have no proven scientific benefit, so please stop with the fear.
You thumb it down, but have no thoughts except to remain closed and under quarantine. Don’t you want to move off that rock?
Na, we are good here, Covid free. You can catch a repatriation flight out if you want off though!
each repatriation flights is another nail in the coffin of the cayman economy….
sad times and terrible reflection on the economy and the do-notning no-plan-ppm
ppm bots out and about….
Well, I am not dumping 8k per month into the economy per month any more.
I know I am small fry, but others have left or are leaving.
Each repatriation flight out is a blessing. Get some of the dead beat drift wood out of here. Hope they keep going!
Don’t know if I want to fly with CAL any time soon as the pilots have not had much cockpit time and of course they would have to go to the US for simulator time, which I’m sure they won’t due to great fear of the virus.
I trust our CAL pilots any day!
They cant fly at all if their licences are out of hours. But they have been doing circuits and bumps to keep them (and the aircraft) in standing.
The planes are pretty well worn out.
Ummm, there still is no plan to open up.
We can be Covid-free, or we can have open borders. The two are mutually exclusive. Pick one and stand by it whilst adjusting to the consequences.
My vote is Covid-free with all entrants having to quarantine so we and our wider economy can be safe.
Be prepared to be priced gouged by KX. Almost 400 USD to return home one way. If you plan to leave 386 USD. The government need open the damn borders instead of duplicating the cost of a one way ticket to keep them afloat. This is madness. Like living in a communist country
It sounds exactly like living in a communist country. Seriously idiotic comment, dude.
So still forcing Work Permit expats to be falsely imprisoned here $3150 to stay at a hotel … when you F@#$ing live alone in a home without sharing facilities and have been quarantining from March as you have been working exclusively from home … #CRAZYNESSContinues
And the food is cold and missing basics. Steak and fries , with no fries. We paid the nut, but my partner has given up on the quarantine hotel delivering what is on the menu. They get their food from me and friends on island
Dislike people are paid to click. I would love to know how much of the government budget goes to people who thumb up the pro government agenda?
I despise the government for one reason only. They claim to help me and then they hurt me.
Leave us alone FFS. We are not bothering you.
All we need is an honest police force and non-freemason politicians.
Alden the freemason disagrees and so does the Governor. Peas in a pod.
Can check out but can check in. Whereas in the U.K. even BA is unsure on process when you call them. They say “call your Government to book because we can’t” BA rep placed us on hold went and checked what the deal was and came back and said “we don’t have access, the flight needs to be book by your Government”
So once more conflicting information. Fridays press release said go to Airline, Airline says go to Government 🤔😴🙄
2.29pm Everyone has booked online – try it!
BA website only show business call for next 3 scheduled flights. That is close to 900 seats in economy class and Premier economy showing up on BA website as not available. Hard to believe 900 + seats are sold out.
So are the flight crew allowed to go home after their trips? There must be an exemption for crew in the regulations not to have to isolate or who would do it?
Like everything else with Cayman Airways they are exempt from everything, including paying rent, airport fees, work permits, etc.
And on time arrivals
So the plan to open up starts with evacuating more people. Nothing has changed.
exactly….evacuation is an awful reflection on the cayman islands…
Yep! They keep giving us the run around, might have to take a chance and hop off this rock!😑😑
But unfortunately it’s nearly impossible to come back! Unless you are a Caymanian citizen (Exempt from all costs), it’s around $3,000+ to govt quarantine and then the cost of all tests. If you don’t test negative twice, you can’t leave, and will continue to pay day by day until you do. That’s a big gamble and a bigger bill.
Suck it up and be grateful you can get in. Australia isn’t letting people out and neither Australia nor NZ is letting expats in.
Hope you suck it up when 1 year passes and you can’t leave or get in!!
Coming back isn’t a part of the plan!
Good. We don’t want you back
Keep hopping when you do buckaroo!
