BOTC passport holders will not need ETA for UK

(CNS): The UK Government will “soon” introduce its Electronic Travel Authorisation requirement for travellers who do not need a visa to enter Britain. However, the office of Cayman Islands Governor Jane Owen has worked with the Home Office to ensure that people who hold a British Overseas Territory Citizen (BOTC) passport will not need an ETA. In a short release, officials said that BOTCs will be exempt from the new requirement for trips of up to six months.

“The UK’s 14 Overseas Territories are an integral part of the UK Family,” Cayman Islands Governor Jane Owen said. “I am pleased to be able to announce that BOTCs will be exempt from the ETA requirement, in the same way that British Citizen passport holders will be exempt. This means that, as now, when visiting the UK, BOTCs will be able to travel on the basis of their BOTC passport without having to apply for prior permission in the form of an ETA.”

BOTC passport holders who wish to go to the UK for more than six months will still need to obtain a visa or apply for a British Citizen passport.

More information is available on the UK Government website here.

Wow, I just curiously started checking Cayman news … never knew some Caymanians were so obsessed with Jamaica. Even when the article has nothing to do with Jamaica the comments are filled with “Jamaica”. There seems to be a dread of the influence of “Jamaica” on Cayman.

The number of Jamaicans living in Cayman is minuscule relative to the population of Jamaica. But apparently Jamaica failed at independence yet Caymanians are impotent to prevent their superior colonial form of government from turning their islands into mini-Jamaica.

It is unclear who is really to be pitied!
    LOL!

Jamaica exists under an illusion of independence while the reality is, it is nothing more than modern day Neo-Colonial State. Jamaica’s political policy and economic system is controlled by those who uphold imperialistic ideals. Local and Foreign.

“The Governor-General of Jamaica is appointed by Her Majesty The Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister, within the monarchical system of Government provided by the Jamaican Constitution.

The Governor General is the defacto Head of State in Jamaica as Her Majesty has vested all executive authority in Jamaica to the Governor-General who at his installation takes the Oath of Office as prescribed by the constitution to function in her stead.”

Becoming a republic won’t help either, because no individual will have protections against tyranny and sovereignty will not exist. Due to the embedded ideals passed down from the previous colonial masters. It is almost impossible to separate that from each individual at that stage.

The Colonial government has nothing to do with what the Cayman Islands has evolved into. You know who, and what is to blame for that.

My wife is Caymanian by virtue of marriage to a Caymanian.
She applied for her UK passport, to which she is legally entitled, 18 months ago.

Still waiting for the UK passport staff, mostly still working from home, to issue it.
    Soon come, eh?

Thousands of Jamaicans come here craving Cayman Status and British Passports.
Guess independence not gone so well for them…so they’re all begging to get back to the evil yoke of British Colonialism.,
Cayman is facing this invasion of uneducated unemployable breeders, and Saunders , Kenny, Mac and Seymour are personally responsible for our destruction.

Unfortunately, most don’t realise how precarious this current situation is. We are importing a certain undesirable calibre as cheap labour and we are on the precipice.

          6.58. Methinks 10.14 touched a nerve.
You sound like one of the thousands that have had to escape the many blessings of “Independence”…to seek refuge in Cayman.

Where and how do I renounce Cayman status?
I don’t want it any more.
Perhaps its a slot for someone more deserving?

    Good to know!

Why is then that the BOTC passports are not allowed to apply for an ESTA to travel to the US? Is this just a money grab for the CI Government to keep charging for a waiver?

I understand that one can apply for the ESTA and get an approval but the airlines will not accept the ESTA for travel. IS this so?

The Cayman Islands belong to the UK. Hence the reason for BOTC exemption from The ETA.

What the US demands of us is their business.

Applying for the US ESTA is easily and quick. Once granted it is valid for 2 years.

At the airport, the only time one might be not be allowed to travel to the US on the ESTA is if one is trying to travel on another passport other than the one connected to the ESTA.

Expecting the status granted mob to know how to apply for that. Half of them aren’t eligible.

The opposite is probably true. I’ll bet that more Dec 2003 Caymanians now hold full UK passports than those you consider to be true born/generational Caymanians.

Trust me. They know full well what to do when it comes to securing immigration privileges.

Yes – I was about to ask why the traveller did not just circumvent the perceived (false) problem, by obtaining a UK passport???
