(CNS): Two tall slim men wearing dark jackets, pants and face masks, armed with a machete, made off with an undisclosed sum of cash Wednesday night after robbing the liquor store in South Coast Plaza in Breakers. Police are now appealing for information about the armed robbery and the culprits.

Police said that around 9:50pm the two men entered the store. One of them brandished a machete at the clerk and demanded cash from the register, and then they both fled with the loot on foot. No one was physically injured.

The matter is currently under investigation by the Bodden Town CID. Anyone with any information or who witnessed anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident is asked to contact 947-2220. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or the website. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to caymancrimestoppers.com.

That is one solution. Another might be that RCIPS have evidence that would benefit from corroboration. We, the people, often “know” who the criminals are, but the police have this sticky thing called ‘due process’. I know, I know, details. They might “know” also, but with corroborating evidence, it might be enough to arrest or even *cough* charge someone with a crime.

Not an easy job to do. Whenever I start to think that RCIPS should be doing more, I ask myself where I think the next violent crime will occur. What occurs to me is that it would not be a waste of manpower to locate a car with two officers near all the known ‘trouble spots’ on weekends. Brac could benefit from this also. Why not sit outside of known problem places at closing? Police officers USED to routinely walk through bars on the Brac and then herd people off the properties at closing. That was a safer world then.

Now, the next sticky wicket is: do we really expect unarmed officers to blaze into a situation with shots fired? I sure as hell don’t. However, if they were watching from afar, they could call in for armed backup and at least be on the scene.

There’s one road going through Breakers. They fled on foot would mean local residents, otherwise they fled on foot then got into a vehicle would mean they’d be on CCTV. Either way, Sherlock Holmes shouldn’t be needed here.

Why is crime so bad in the Cayman Islands?
Is it any wonder people are moving out to Little Cayman?

Crime rate is climbing as our population does. If we continue to import poverty to work for unlivable wages, this is the only possible result.
