(CNS): Jahsmine Ebanks and Shania Beckford, both 15 years old, have run away from the West Bay care home where they are staying for the third time this month. Less than a week after the girls were found, the police and the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) said they were seeking the public’s help yet again to find the teenagers, who went missing at around 11am Sunday morning.

Jahsmine was last seen wearing black tights and a black jacket. She is 5’4″ with a dark complexion and of medium build. Shania was last seen wearing blue pyjama pants and a white t-shirt. She is about 4’9″ with a brown complexion and curly brown hair and of medium build.

The police are encouraging Jahsmine and Shania to return to their West Bay address or attend the nearest police station immediately. However, they noted that the girls are vulnerable juveniles and that their safety and well-being are of paramount importance.

Those who harbour or conceal a young person are guilty of an offence and face a possible fine of $2,000 and imprisonment for three months. The RCIPS has not revealed whether or not any adults have been held responsible for the girls’ absence on the two most recent occasions when they ran away.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts now or the circumstances surrounding these teens is asked to contact the West Bay Police Station at 949-3999, the MASH Unit at 649-6000, the DCFS on 949 0290 or 911. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, or the website.

Why do they keep running away? Maybe something more is happening at the facility.
Poor kids, they have no one.

Doesn’t someone realize that the issue at hand is larger than what is being stated? Continuing to publish the same thing every other day is of no use at this stage.

Who would blame them ? The people managing those facilities are clearly in the line of work they are suitable to ! Bonaventure boys home is unfortunately looking like a preliminary class to a whole life career at HMP Northward by the day!

Cayman needs proper Health Mental Healthcare facilities and none of the previous staff is remotely fit to provide a proper employment pool. Dr Lockhart expressed repeatedly his strong stance about the issue only to be met with skepticism and silence to the point he resigned from heading the facility he helped build!

As per the public schools on island 🏝️, buildings don’t educate people! A state of the art facility doesn’t do much when its staffing is subpar by the metric tonne.

In a tiny island like this how the hell do these poor kids end up in care? An Ebanks doesn’t have a single relative that cares enough about them to take them in? Really?

This doesn’t not concern the general public

Apparently it doesn’t concern RCIPS very much either, since beyond putting out a press release stating that people harbouring runaways are liable to criminal prosecution, they then proceed to do nothing whatsoever about charging anyone. Whilst RCIPS failure to enforce laws is not exactly news, repeatedly stating what the law is and then demonstrably doing nothing completely removes the deterrent effect as well as making them look a laughing stock. Try charging someone and announcing that – you may find in future that runaways get found a little faster.

There’s no credible report of anyone harboring them. No known abuser. Speculation. There’s also no crime. Just teen girls that defied a DCFS curfew (again).

Right. Where have they been sleeping during the days away? On the beach?

Maybe yes. Quite comfortable and form-fitting and without Miss Hannigan or whoever keeps blowing their stack and calling the cops, like they are wanted criminals. Imagine if every 15 year old teen that dreaded and missed curfew had the entire police force, helicopter, and public dispatched. Every time. Is that proportionate or good for mental health? Who will mediate or stand up for the minor children in this situation?!? The DCFS employee adults and/or home they are providing is clearly repelling. Call the cops on that. Poor kids.

DCFS should not be using the media to name and shame the 15 year old minor children they can’t keep track of. These children are not fugitives from justice. How does this fix your broken trust-based relationship? Me thinks DCFS staff are in the wrong area of government work. Poor kids.
