Bryan ‘disappointed’ as CAL chairman left too soon

(CNS): Tourism Minister Kenneth Bryan has said he was disappointed that Jude Scott, who recently resigned as chairman of Cayman Airways, “abandoned ship when he did” because he had “jumped the gun a little” since the concerns he raised in his resignation letter have largely already been addressed. Bryan said that Cabinet has approved the funding to bring CAL salaries in line with the civil service increase, and the situation at the airfield on Little Cayman regarding the lease has been resolved. Furthemore, he told CNS that the “dual destination” idea is far from a policy but an idea for discussion.

Maintaining that he had not been ignoring or avoiding Scott, Bryan said, “I wish he had stuck it out.” The minister said that sometimes it takes longer than he would like to go through the process but that most of the concerns Scott had raised were being tackled.

“Cayman Airways has a bright future ahead and I want to move forward,” he said. “I don’t think the letter was helpful but I don’t want to waste time on negative issues as I really want to focus on the positive future of the airline.”

The minister said there are some issues relating to the Edward Bodden Airfield on Little Cayman that will need to be addressed and those discussions are underway in Cabinet. But he noted that there is no full agreement yet on the best way forward to deal with that complex situation.

Bryan explained that the idea of dual destination tourism was something that he wanted people to think about and discuss, but no policy decision has been made on it at all. He said that after the last two years and the impact on the country’s airline, things are changing. CAL now has bright days ahead, and that was where he wanted to focus.

Scott resigned last week and submitted a scathing resignation letter, in which he criticised the minister and the direction he was taking the national flag carrier. While CNS and other media houses secured copies of the letter, the minister has now formally released it, making it a public document. He has also released the brief acceptance letter from Chief Officer Stran Bodden, who thanked Scott for his service and wished him well.

See the resignation letter in the CNS Library.

So many hateful commentaries on our young Minister. It sounds very much like an envy and jealousy forum. I would bet that there is more to this story of the Minister avoiding the Chairman. Kenneth would not deliberately avoid the Chairman unless there was a good reason and I am not saying that his response is the right one, but I am sure there is a reason. I have seen something similar before; when the second-tier power thinks they are better than the Boss, there is conflict and nothing much gets done between them. I wonder? Does the entitled Chairman find it difficult to show the appropriate respect to the George Town boy that grew into a national leader?

Wasn’t Chris Saunders part of this ‘policy’ to give away Cayman Air revenue to Jamaica? How can he hold the position Minister of Finance with that kind of thinking? What does the PPM have to say? Their silence is deafening?

Kenneth Bryan has become another McKeeva Bush with his dictatorial direct ruling.

Neither of them understand separation of powers.

We can only have nightmares of what Cayman will become after they have deposed Wayne Panton when Chris Saunders is Premier, Kenneth Bryan is Deputy Premier, accompanied by Alden’s PPM rats.

    Lord help us.

Saying it has been resolved does not actually sound factual!?

“Cayman Airways has a bright future ahead and I want to move forward,” he said. “I don’t think the letter was helpful but I don’t want to waste time on negative issues as I really want to focus on the positive future of the airline.”
This is precisely Jude’s concerns! The future cannot be bright for Cayman Airways if the Minister is not responding in a timely and respectful manner to the Chairman! If there is an accident on Little Cayman, at the airport that isn’t up to code….we the taxpayers will be paying yet again! And the resultant reputation of Cayman Airways and the Cayman Islands will suffer…because the unqualified Minister is to full of himself and busy dancing for Jamaican Independence and dodging legitimate concerns around Ms. Cayman…concerns that should have been decided on loooooong ago!

Same old sound bytes from Ministers. Jude is a upright professional with no time to waste, this much is apparent. Minister thought he could sit on his laurels and dodge while upteen requests were being made for a sit down and other matters that needed grave attention. Now, all of a sudden so called things are getting done. These types need to understand not everyone will wait around on you on “cayman time”.

Well I’m disappointed you were ever elected, Kenny.

I’m bitterly disappointed that you blocked any attempt to hold McKeeva accountable for his criminal thuggery, but then as you’re just his sock-puppet anyway that shouldn’t have been a surprise.

Most of all I’m disappointed that Wayne chose to entrust you with a ministerial brief which you are manifestly unfit for.

I have met Jude, and he is an intelligent, well-spoken man who cares deeply about Cayman. The big picture question here is why Government is soliciting advice from Jamaica, or from economists from Trinidad. If Cayman needs advice, it should go to places like Monaco or Singapore, which are also small nations but extremely well managed.

Cayman Islands gdp per capita for 2020 was $85,347, a 6.74% decline from 2019.

Trinidad and Tobago gdp per capita for 2020 was $15,286, a 10.73% decline from 2019.

All he trying to di is shift blame after the fact.

Like PACT, Bryan is a waste of good oxygen.

What he should do is resign and hand off his portfolio to someone with knowledge and tenacity to do the job.

Cayman Airways has so many things they are doing right but they have the wrong person leading the way. The minister is in way over his head and has no idea how to lead anything much less a national airline.

The arrogance of the minister is the real reason Cayman Airways cannot succeed. He doesn’t have experience in running anything but yet is expected to improve it?

Kenneth is persona non grata in this government. PACT knows they cannot find anyone to beat him in GTC so they highlight every single mistake of his (using local media who seem only too happy to oblige) so they can no confidence him.

Now, Kenneth makes it easy because he doesnt know what he is doing. I would bet he opposes Wayne for Premier so CS will keep him around until he can take Premier from WP and then get rid of Kenneth.

It really all is about power nothing to do with the people. I saw this coming the minute people were writing thinkpieces about Kenneth’s billboards like WTF is the public supposed to do about it, we more worried about gas prices and electric bills.
