Fahie planning return to work as premier of BVI
(CNS): The premier of the British Virgin Islands, Andrew Fahie, has said he will not resign from his job leading the overseas territory and that he was “framed” by the BVI’s “colonial masters”. In a social media message, which he asked to be circulated, sent from jail after his arrest last week on drug trafficking and money laundering charges, Fahie said he expected to be released on bail on Wednesday and would be returning to the BVI to resume his job as premier.
He claimed he had been framed by the British with the help of the US government in order to oust him from office and urged the people of BVI not to be fooled.
Hundreds of people in the BVI took to the streets on Monday to protest the proposed imposition of direct rule by the UK Government, which coincided with a visit by the overseas territories minister. Amanda Milling travelled to the territory to begin talks with BVI Governor John Rankin and other officials on how the country would be run, given the situation relating to Fahie and the publication of a damning public inquiry, which found the governance of the country was “appallingly bad”.
Fahie is facing charges of conspiracy to import 3,000 kilos of cocaine and money laundering after being caught in a sting operation in Miami on Thursday. Fahie is accused of agreeing to a $700,000 deal to allow traffickers to use BVI ports.
According to the indictment, Fahie asked undercover informants working with the US Drug Enforcement Administration and posing as drug cartel members if they were law enforcement because, he said, the British were trying to oust him from office.

BVI & TCI are similar to Cayman in that they suffer from a limited pool of under-educated persons who are permitted to run for office. I would bet they also suffer from the results of OMOV with micro-constituencies. In addition, corruption in those Territories has been pervasive for decades (we’re doing a good job catching-up though).
Hopefully UK’s action in BVI will send a shot across the bow of our empowered politicians who control millions of easy public funds and whose intention is to “take care of the 200 voters in my constituency” in the only way known in Cayman politics – hand-outs, gifts and favours for support.
Cayman’s political “system” is simply a popularity contest based on who can pay the most for votes!! UK, Please keep a keen eye on Cayman!!
They hate British [Colonial] Rule & they despise U.S. Tax Laws yet they can’t stay out of the U.S, or Relinquish their Citizenship or Green Cards.
Looks like both Democratic Systems have their demons, so tge Cayman Islands/Caribbean will NEVER be happy with them.
Loved how he at one point asked if the undercover DEA guy was law enforcement because he knew the UK doesn’t like him. If only he had followed standard KYC procedures and obtained a certified copy of the passport and utility bill of person he was dealing with plus also conducted a risk screening of that person, he may have found out that the guy’s ID was fake… lol!!
Mr. BVI Premier please pause and watch the US channel ” To Catch a Smuggler” Trust me you will not be going back to BVI any time soon.. It Aires on Wednesday Nights.. at around 9pm
Imagine the shame of Cayman had a convicted coke dealer in its government.
Took his licks. Reformed himself. Now is doing very well. That’s past history.
Move on. He certainly has and is doing a lot better than many, who are criticizing.
Wotch you talking about Willis we gots Colombia’s Finest right yah so or in the BRAC
Andrew Fahie, when compared to our own troubled leaders, does make appreciating MacKeeva Bush and Alden McLaughlin a lot easier.
There is very little to appreciate when it comes to Mac.
Fair comment, but give me Mac over Fahie any day of the week. Can’t believe I just said that, but it’s true.
Of course!
The historic oppression of the black man by the white man!
He’s obviously seeking reparations from the colonial masters to enable him to write in English without the use of spell check
How noble
How just so lacking….
God will forgive….
This man is loony toons
Don’t worry about Andrew. His witch is going to weave a little magic with the federal judge and he will get bail.
I had never heard of Mr Fahie before now.
Isn’t he funny?
What social media channel is this??
TRUTH Social
Good grief, the man cannot even write properly. How on earth did he come to be premier? As for being set up, this place already was being investigated for serious corruption!
Have you ever read releases from our present and past leaders? Arden McLean in particular was the worst.
Watchgate
Sounds familiar huh?…………where’s my waitress!
They should just leak the recordings…
That’ll be enough.
Send them to BVI Marl Rd.
At least he was not issuing a government credit card or groping or abusing women.
No. He was allegedly involved in cocaine trafficking and money laundering. Bad all around.
Pure bureaucratic harassment!
Unadulterated too.
This dude is delusional. I’m still wondering what the Senegal guy he owed money to did for him to “fix” his election in return for $83,000 balance. It’s all recorded and he admits to doing so much! His goose is cooked. Mother England is not going to let him off. They’ll cooperate with USA to ensure that.
The usual excuse is that it was a. “Real estate commission”. It’s worked before.
Dude is the definition of a Narcissistic Sociopath!
Agreed.
Yeah. The US Courts are going to bail a foreigner and allow him to leave the country whilst facing charges that he was involved in a conspiracy to smuggle 3 tons of coke. Happens all the time.
Enough–with all the sarcasm!😊
…and we wonder why the crooks here are so hell-bent on building a bigger and deeper cargo port in GT to accommodate the larger cargo ships from Colombia. smh.
History tells us that, while not likely, his claims are not beyond the realm of possibility. That said, he is responsible for his own actions and will have to face the consequences.
Shame he does not have a Cayman jury to hear his case…
How could a Premier of ANY jurisdiction allow himself to be caught up in this situation? Tell you how; Greed! He saw an opportunity for easy $$$ and took it. He made his own bed, so time to lay in it and stop playing the victim of his “ colonial masters”. It’s an excuse to cover up his own selfish, greedy ways. Get ready for 10 years imprisonment . Do the right thing and resign for the people of BVI AND the BOTs.
A similar sting operation took place in TCI in the 70s when Norman Saunders was the fall guy. Do not forget Merren who took the bate as well.
Ten years…nope. Will be at least 20 years. Conspiracy has the same level of culpability as if the actual trafficing did occur.
Message from jail…better seek the lord mr premier…
Well, the Brits have carried out far greater acts of colonial shame and manipulation – history is the evidence.
I’ll reserve judgment for the time being.
They have him on tape. Read the indictment. You think they would claim he said and did the things they say he did, saying the conversations were recorded, and they don’t have tapes? How about what was he doing in that private jet in Miami when he was arrested?

Why would the U.K. want to set him up? Direct rule will be even more a drain on resources than the current situation!
I actually LOL’d at the unintentional pomposity of that post.
Tell us about one then.
Stupid
Yeah because MI6 have nothing better to do right now than fit this idiot up. Dear god.
What about that Mary donkey story? Is he going to use that one too?
We are blessed that even our donkey riding, full moon sexually stimulated politicians are not this bad.
Read Leigh Ritchie’s book?
Primarily a work of fiction but #leggewasright all the same.
Er, 10:40, have you listened to his testimony as a very young foppish man before John Kerry’s panel on drug smuggling etc? Leigh Ritch was a serious player in those early days.
Crazy. You know what else starts with a “C”? Corruption.
Not the sharpest tool in the shed…
If a substantial number of people in the BVI back him on this, there can be no clearer evidence that they, as a people, are too ignorant or corrupt to be capable of managing their own affairs.
Just like West Bay and Bodden town voters….”too ignorant to know what they’re doing”.
Every time these low life scum get caught, it’s the fault of the UK, or Governor or Colonial masters.
Add GTC voters to above list of ignorant voters.
We need a national vote.
Start a petition
We do need a National vote for Premier.
For all of them. It is the only way to save us from corruption. The voting pool needs to be too big to be “bought.”
That won’t work because smaller districts will be left behind, even more than now (such as, North Side, East End, Cayman Brac East and West).
No. Simply ensure that a resident in each district is elected. Can still be done on a national basis.
Fact of the matter is, there should not be 19 voting districts. 11 would more than suffice.
Maybe so, maybe no.
We condemn and are ashamed of his actions. Don’t get it twisted We also have the right to determine our own constitutional process.
Lol. Sure bud. Surrrrreeeeeee….
hahahahaha
Has no clue how the U.S. Justice system actually works.
‘Colonial masters’ what a joke. BVI can claim independence at any time. I am sure the UK would be delighted to be rid of them.
Indeed, they take much and give nothing.
It was the “colonial masters”, so quick to play the ‘race card’. Yawn. The UK should enforce independence and just walk away.
Yes. But we should give all the BVI registered corporate vehicles a chance to move here first.
Fiscally a good move, but greedy and selfish.
Cayman First. It is a competitive world.
We probably don’t want them. Too many shady Russian entities amongst others.
Work for a Magic Circle law firm?
Anyone hear Orett Connor on the rampage on his show yesterday about the UK and direct rule and how the citizens of BVI like Ukrainians should rise up?
Yes, 9:43, I heard him. He does not like the British. His “solution” was that the British should order them to hold another election and allow them to elect a government that was not corrupt. Clearly Connor had not read the Report carefully because the Commissioner in charge clearly emphasizes that this sort of corrupt activity and misgovernment has been going on for many years so it crosses several election cycles. Just having another election will not solve the problems. What is needed is a complete revamp of every aspect of governance in BVI, a failed territory at present, hence his recommendation that the UK impose direct rule for a finite period.
“Does not like the British” is an understatement. He has come to represent along with his admirers Theresa, Steve, Mary, Roy and the rest the “voice of the new resurgent Cayman” in constantly complaining about how downpressed we Caymanians are by the colonial yoke.
History and facts do not lie, if you would care to read and enlighten yourself. They do have a poor track record!
Man has always voiced his racist views on our public radio station. Nothing new there.
Should it be allowed on our tax payer funded radio station? And this guy was our Cabinet Secretary, albeit a hopeless one!
“Colonial masters”, what a goober. Since he won’t be returning to the BVI anytime soon, it doesn’t really matter what he says or does.
This guy is a complete whackjob!
Well, if he says he was framed then hang him up on the wall, wall of shame that is.
His heart is pure and his hands are clean.
My thoughts exactly. Scum bags all sound the same when their selfish and destructive behaviour is exposed. The drug trafficking charges aside, it seems the U.K. had reason to remove him anyway.
The sad reality is that neither the Governor nor the Commissioner of police have been here long enough to catch the relevance of that quote. I hope someone might brief them.
Wonder if they heard of First Cayman Bank? Or Richard Parchment’s fax machine?
Carrots and milk at the Seminole Hardrock! <>
Is that where a cocktail waitress defiled the forever honorable’s hand by placing her bottom cheek on it.. ?
👍
Too funny😂
Thank you, I’m here all week.
