Active COVID-19 cases continue to climb

(CNS): Another 99 new cases of COVID-19 were reported to Public Health over the last two days, bringing the estimated number of active cases to 628, including four on the Sister Islands and three people in the hospital. The daily rolling average cases for Cayman is currently 44, as the rate at which the virus is spreading has begun to increase again.

To date, there have been over 21,200 cases of the virus in the Cayman Islands, including 670 on the Sister Islands.

Medical Officer of Health Dr Samuel Williams-Rodriguez revealed Wednesday at a meeting with the press that the Public Health Department will soon be delivering a fourth shot of the COVID-19 vaccine to vulnerable patients and those aged over 75 in an effort to maintain immunity from severe illness for those most at risk.

While the current dominant strains of this coronavirus appear to be less virulent, it is not going away and a surge of infections is being reported from London to Shanghai, which is now in complete lockdown. According to figures released in the UK on Wednesday, infections there are at a record high, with 4.9 million people affected.

While the WHO reported today that there had been a drop in the number of worldwide infections for the second consecutive week, it warned that the reported numbers carry considerable uncertainty because many countries have stopped widespread testing.

WHO said it is tracking an Omicron variant that is a combination of two versions: BA.1 and BA.2, which was first detected in Britain in January. Early estimates suggest this is around 10% more transmissible than previous mutations.

Good time drop mask mandate and all entry restrictions.

Let’s see how many deaths in the name of “Let’s what x is doing”

I’d like to see a daily report on cases of anything that has caused mortality and hospital admissions for everything. That way I’d have a variety of things to obsess about.

This in an invitation to those who keep posting inane comments requesting that CNS stop writing articles that mention Covid. Please feel free to stop reading or commenting on these articles as a way to protest. The rest of us appreciate receiving information even if that information runs counter to the narrative of deniers.

And nearly all of the cases are vaccinated people yet unvaccinated people are still subject to quarantine, why? A negative test is just as negative whether you are vaccinated or not. This is literally anti-science/anti-logic/anti-common sense at work and it’s probably illegal.

Why anyone would report themselves, what a joke.

the risk of covid is now less than that of flu…so why bother with the testing/reporting?
the only benefit of reporting is a free paid 10 day(at least) vacation off work.

Self testing with LFT is a voluntary courtesy to others, that also demonstrates you understand how COVID works in season 3. One would hope that if there were such a thing as an asymptomatic potentially deadly flu or head cold, that we would all voluntarily submit to one of those tests too, instead of taking an easier psychopathic approach.

Yet another that fails this class. Interesting also that you classify it as “less than a flu”, but then put a 10 day timeline on it.

There is no record of any flus or colds behaving like this novel virus in the history of medicine, which is why the entire planet sat up and took varying amounts of action.

CDC estimates 30% of recovered suffer some lasting effect that they may or may not be aware of or want to talk about.

There are already 3 pages of well-corroborated causal complications on a growing list on Web MD. https://www.webmd.com/lung/coronavirus-complications#1

We don’t yet know if the virus leaves the body completely, or just settles into a dormant state in tissues like Epstein-Barr – and there are emerging chronic fatigue study linkages there for those who may have previously “recovered” from mono, and those suffering from mid and long-COVID.

Haven’t heard of “LONG FLU”, have you?

More garbage unfounded post. Support with a post from a reliable source.

this should be the final public advice on covid:
get vaxxed or risk losing social freedoms and risk getting seriously ill.
if old/sick/at risk….protect yourself as much as possible.
if you test positive ..isolate at home until asymptomatic.
    everything else returns to normal.
there is nothing more to be done or said.

Except that you’ve failed the entire lesson of Covid: that the hijacking of cells and the absence of symptoms, is what continues to spread and evolve this virus. It’s becoming more evasive, not less. Comirnaty was developed from the 2019 “Wuhan” strain, and though better than nothing, it’s a key that doesn’t really fit this lock anymore. 8% of the UK infected shows that.

The majority doesn’t care about Covid or the statistics anymore!

    Time to move on People!!!

The majority you speak of have either a financial stake in denying Covid dangers or they have been brainwormed by Covid denying religious leaders or right wing grifters, or a combination of all.

Get vaccinated and you’ll be fine (if healthy). Lets move on and get rid of travel time.

    • Caymanian says:

If only life was this simple. Hey num*uts. What about other new variants?

You do know vaccination effectiveness is around 6 to 8 months right???

His thought process is like other small brain shallow thinkers, they this Covid won’t change again despite like 20 variants.

Let me fill you in on something. Many “vaccinated” people are in fact NOW not, let me repeat, NOT VACCINATED!!!

So drop mask mandates, change Travel and watch the bodies pile up out of sheer stupidity.

You idiots operate under emergency management instead of being PROACTIVE. Preparing for what comes next.

Now is the time for learning about what we did wrong and what we did right.

In a few weeks’ time, we can all assess the cost of allowing thousands of mask-less tourists back into GT. Look around the world, this pandemic is not over, and being vaccinated does not mean you’ll not become VERY sick. Keep your guard up, people.

    What about cancer rates?

  12. Anonymous says:

When will HSA recognize that the “Sister Islands”, there are 2 of them, and they are Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. HSA should know how many cases we have on each Island and tell us.
I guess that would be too much to ask.

  13. Anonymous says:

Twas but a matter of time that the virus mutated once again and with the open door policy in full effect here, this should come as no surprise.

    Stay safe everyone!

    • Anonymous says:

Thanks, we’ll see you in 2030 or so, once you’ve grown a pair.

    • Bert says:

What is a surprise is that the government is still forcing restrictions and quarantines on the people over a virus that is now deadly than the common flu.
