(CNS): Police are on the lookout for a couple who stole a tip jar from the Heritage Kitchen on Boggy Sand Road on Tuesday afternoon. Officers were called out to the local restaurant, which is also a tourist favourite, at about 2:30pm and were told that a man had taken the jar from the restaurant counter and walked off in the company of a woman.

A worker at the restaurant followed them and confronted the man. The thief took some cash from the jar and brandished a machete, and then made off on foot, leaving the jar and the rest of the money behind.

The woman was seen leaving in a Honda Civic, which the police later found parked in another part of West Bay, but the couple have not been located.

The man was about 5’8″ in height, between 30 and 35 years old, of slim but muscular build, and a brown complexion. His face was covered and he was shirtless, wearing a black backpack and jeans shorts. The woman was of light complexion and chubby build, with short dark hair, and was wearing a long black dress.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the West Bay CID at 949-3999. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, or the website. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to caymancrimestoppers.com.

HIS FACE WAS COVERED AT 2:30 IN THE AFTERNOON ON A TUESDAY!! RCIPS, why are you not pulling over people driving around/walking around with their faces covered?? Every single time there is a robbery the description of the offender is the same. Dark complexion, medium build. Yet, 20 times a day I pass people fitting THAT VERY DESCRIPTION walking and driving on the road WITH THEIR FACES COVERED!! RCIPS need to start questioning these people!! WHO ARE THEY HIDING FROM??

      This is a EXCELLENT point.
It Should be looked at and addressed.

Since it’s not illegal, there’s nothing that RCIPS can do.

You want to invite lawsuits to be paid from the public purse, go right ahead.

In the meanwhile, you could lobby your lawmakers to change the law.

The RCIPS could detain and search such people, if a crime is committed and the description is similar to that of having the face covered etc, but they ain’t stopping anyone on a whim, nor should they.

You could go around arresting trick-or-treaters, welders, or motorbikers, with your logic, as without nuance, that’s what it entails.

Also end up arresting all of the gardeners.

Not wrong that its easy for a person with their face covered to blend in in Cayman. But wrong that everyone with it should be stopped-&-frisked for no reason other than wanting to get sun-burned, or inhale dust, or etc. My reason may not be something you think is necessary but that shouldn’t make it illegal.

Their finger prints are most likely in the system already. Should be and easy discovery for the RCIPS. Then blast their names and mug shots for all to see, they will turn up easily after that!
