| 14/11/2023 | 58 Comments

(CNS): Police have said that a woman was raped by several men at gunpoint on Monday morning. The woman was offered a ride by a group of three men, one of whom she knew, while she waited at a bus stop in Savannah. But when she got into the small car, the men drove her to a secluded area, brandished a firearm and sexually assaulted her.

The men then allowed her to get out of the car before driving off and leaving her at the secluded spot. The police said the woman then sought help from people driving by in a silver Suzuki Swift and they took her to George Town, where the police were called. The woman was taken to the hospital and discharged after an evaluation. The police said that since then, appropriate safeguarding measures have been put in place for her.

The suspect who was driving the vehicle was tall, of dark complexion and muscular build. The suspect who brandished the gun was of dark complexion, with a large beard and short hair. The third suspect was skinny, of brown complexion, with short dreadlocks.

So far, police have not reported any arrests in this case. Meanwhile, they are asking the people in the silver Suzuki Swift that assisted the woman to contact the police.

The matter is currently under investigation by George Town CID who can be contacted on 949-4222. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or the website. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to caymancrimestoppers.com.

“The woman was offered a ride by a group of three men, one of whom she knew”. One of “whom she knew!” And no arrests yet? Vague descriptions of the people in the car?? If it was someone she knew why doesn’t the article read “at least ONE suspect in custody” or “police are searching for Bobo Smith for questioning in relation to…”

    What a joke.

This exact thing happened to me several years ago. The police never made any real effort to find them. And it was no other nationality but Caymanians, and I am Caymanian as well. Useless predators.

Again, what happened to the CCTV and RFID plate readers? The whole point is that on such a small rock you can’t hide. If the plate readers work then just narrow the time window and look at cars that match, can get on this in an instant.

It has become blindingly obvious that the 10-year minimum for possession of an unlicensed firearm is insufficient.

The other thing that needs to be changed is that if they do not recover the firearm then it is assumed to be imitation. Wave anything pretending that it is a firearm during a robbery and you should get the minimum 10 years!

Where are the police roadblocks looking for the suspects’ vehicle since Monday morning? Or, unna only have strength for tint/license checks and speed traps?

SMH – sad state of affairs all around.

My heart goes out to the victim.

Where is this massive influx of guns coming from? Do something, anyone! Pepper spray and tasers are needed for protection, it is ridiculous we have to be vulnerable in order to pretend to prevent weapons from being in the community. Guns already are! This was broad daylight! But of course if this woman gets pregnant from this assault, that’s her problem and apparently god’s will? Please, need to get our priorities straight Cayman!

Several days ago I re-posted my longstanding proposal to privatize the the prison system here in Cayman. I was downvoted by many of you. Now do you see what happens when we let these animals out into society? Not only will we save on public spending, we will make these violent criminals WORK for the people instead of victimizing us.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE, NOW! ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION?

Privatized prisons is insane because there’s a conflict of interest by which the shareholders of those prisons increase their wealth solely by collecting more prisoners. Watch it on YouTube it is sickening and May are max security prisons where the inmate is in confinement 23 hours a day and only one hour to run around in small cubicle. Many commit suicide.
Law enforcement with tech surveillance and human tracking ability is the way to go. Private prisons are not the way to go

My question is whose going to pay for the extra tech surveillance and other options? I would suggest empower every Cayman resident to their natural born right of arming themselves to defend themselves (with proper training and mental screening). That way everyone is a gang banger and not only cops and criminals.

It’s the misplaced notion that Caymanian men might have a “natural born right to arm themselves” that got us here. No such rights exist! She knows one of them, and if there’s any justice, they are all going to be locked away for a long time.

We are all going to start bashing the police, the government, the foreigners, the duppy. How about the fact that we females see females by the side of the road and will not offer assistance? Parents pass other people children on the road and leave them there. What happened to being a good neighbour? Until the authorities get this under control, let us do our part and look out for each other.

As for women, or anyone on the side of the road, I never pick them up. Firstly, there’s some proper crazies, but secondly, the last thing a woman would want is for me to be pulling over and asking them if they want to get in a stranger’s vehicle. Think about it!

Our entire criminal justice system is a failure. It needs fundamental reform that will get violent criminals off our streets and keep them off our streets. Sadly too many of our current politicians are not interested in making our streets safe as it is not a subject that will fatten their personal wallets.

It’s not extreme, imo. This woman has gone through a horrific experience that we cannot begin to imagine, unless we’ve actually been there. She is permanently changed. I would only wish that if these creeps were wood-chipped, that she be allowed to push the start button. Even that wouldn’t erase the horror, but perhaps it might allow her some sense of justice.

Awful! Will this raise the temperature high enough for politicians to allocate some of the annual budget surplus of tens of millions to clamp down on CRIME???
Based on history likelihood is NO and instead give BS speeches, point the finger at someone else and further spend the millions on development on island.

RCIPS get the one that she knows and force him to tell who the others are. Do your job to help solve this horrendous crime. Furthermore, spend equal amounts of efforts to solve other crimes as you do each day to meet the traffic quotas that you are so worry about. I know that you pockets are important but so are the lives of the people of the Cayman Islands.

Crimestoppers needs a 10K reward on this and watch how fast 1 of the 3 turns in their reprobate buddies? The police need to offer a reduced sentence to come forward and the other 2 need medical castration and LIFE!

What are 3 people doing during the daytime driving around bus stops? Clearly not working.
What ever happened to National ID and Immigration enforcement?

We need a few sting operations in the known daytime bars? These low lifes are living off crime and such a small place we should be able to round them up?

10k? When the JDF — err, RCIPS are “allegedly”🙄 involved in most of the crime on the island, including leaking details of informants to the bad guys?

Make it 250k so people can at least maybe pay off the rest of their mortgage and their family can have a little something to live in after they’re murdered for snitching.

How about people just come forward on behalf of the woman who was raped by 3 men at gunpoint. You need a reward to do the right thing? What if it was your sister, mother, girlfriend, wife?

I remember when you could walk the streets of Cayman at 3am and no one would bother you. You could leave your doors unlocked. You could take rides from strangers and get to where you were going. What a sad state things are in.
