(CNS): While police reported a relatively quiet weekend for crime over the Easter holiday, road collisions continued and the traffic unit attended twenty between Friday and Monday, though none of them were serious. They also dealt with 209 traffic offences, including five drunk drivers and 80 speeders. Tint offences, expired registrations and careless drivers also kept the officers busy.

But as officers visited campsites and communities, there were no major incidents of violent crime.

“We want to take this opportunity to thank the public for being responsible over the course of the Easter weekend,” said Acting Superintendent Brad Ebanks. “We were pleased that apart from a couple of minor incidents, our officers reported very few issues of concern. We look forward to working with our communities to continue this as a norm in the coming years.”

Too many cellphones…. and no proper punishment for breaking the law. Will someone please tell me why not? Why do the police not make any effort to get the crappy drivers off the street? How many arrests have been made this year to punish lawbreaking drivers?? It is obvious the police do not want to arrest drivers breaking the law. Why???

The roundabouts are now becoming pretty lethal. Some drivers will ignore traffic from the right and see if they can keep going at 30-40mph through a large wide roundabout.

Also, some people with reasonable ability to judge speed will drive smoothly onto a roundabout while being astounded at vehicles that approach a roundabout and literally stop before even looking to see if there’s anything on it to give way to.

Well, I’ve said many times, “Roundabouts are the work of the devil!” I think someone should give us the number of accidents at roundabouts since they’re put in use..

There should be VERY strict penalties for drunk driving! Why isn’t UBER and LIFT not on island? $500 per excessive speeding ticket and that money should go to fund Cayman public schools = more teachers OR to build a monorail! If a monorail worked on The Simpsons then it’ll work in Cayman!

Saw officers out one morning during the work week patrolling. But never again. Sadly every single morning from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. drivers are weaving in and out of traffic, Following too close and pulling out in front of people ignoring stop signs. Until everyone thinks there could be a policeman right around the corner no one’s going to change their driving habits here and they’re going to continue to drive like s***.
