Finance Committee to meet to clear stipends

(CNS): A Finance Committee hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, when MPs will approve funds for the March payments to people on the Displaced Tourism Employees Stipend Programme and the Tourism Recovery Grant Programme, officials have said.

This is the first meeting of Parliament this year, having last met in December 2021 for the budget session, which was only the third time since the elections. However, it does not appear that members will be dealing with any parliamentary business.

In a short release, officials said that once the funds have been approved, the Ministry of Labour anticipates being able to process all stipend payments on 22 March. This includes payments by electronic funds transfer (EFT) and by cheque.

Recipients who are not currently employed will receive $1,500, while recipients who have been transitioned to the Tourism Recovery Grant Programme due to their full-time employment status will receive $750 for March.

For questions or queries about the payments, contact 649-6932 or email stipend@gov.ky and put ‘tourism stipend’ in the subject line.

I must say that i was very disappointed with the questioning by the Progressives on this give away spree by Government.
The Opposition basically said, do you need more Government and, are you sure Government you shouldn’t have requested more?
    Sad display by Progressives.

    Stop wasting my time
    You know what I want
    You know what I need
    Or maybe you don’t
Do I have to come right flat out and tell you everything

    Gimme some money!

Four meetings since being elected almost a year ago, and all for finance committee to get more money.

Some people who want to work are still genuinely unemployed despite registering with WORC, submitting numerous applications for suited posts (per experience) and casual inquiries, etc.

    Why??

So what else are these genuinely-displaced tourism stipend recipients to do? This “system” of never-ending handouts sacrifices local ambition for work permits revenues!!

The only communication I have had from WORC having signed up when unemployed last year is to let me know there is space available for me to sit my GED exam….

That’s after I let then know I am Caymanian with 11 GCSES, 4 Highers, 2 AS Level,1 A-Level, Associate Degree in Accounting, STEP and an LLB and 15yrs in Fund Governance.

Not one email/ communication regarding any vacant positions since I signed up 9 months ago……

So why are you struggling to be employed do you think?

“Village” Politics, Preferential Treatment/(Nepotism), Speciaized Certifications, Ridiculous Amount of Accrued PQE 😀, and Declare A Non-Caymanian Status (even if you have to fake it).

          ***WORC is an absolute joke***

  6. the truth spitter says:

yet the tourism industry is stating how they are short thousands of permits. Every year kids leave school here, yet every year permit holders increase, How does this make sense? Some of these people receiving these stipends are no doubt just free loading and should be told to go an seek employment!

  7. Corruption is endemic says:

Can we stop the free money without a means test or even a test to see if they were in tourism.

We know there has been fraud and that Saunders said they won’t prosecute anyone.

    Shameful day for Cayman

    Good Evening,

Am gonna voice my down right disgust of this so called PACT Government. Every month it is something. Don’t you all get it that Caymanians are suffering and need help in many areas. Yet all you all do. Is parade in front of every camera to get every photo opportunity. Lol what a hot mess. You all say your for Caymanians but that ain’t so. Mr. Premier I have sent you and the Governor numerous emails and not one reply. So you tell me Mr. Premier are you for Caymanians. My answer to you is a big fat NO. Time for PACT Government to be voted out and early elections called. You all are a disgrace to say you care about Caymanians.

    Signed,

    Chet Oswald Ebanks.

    • Mr Jones says:

Mr Ebanks, what is it you are requesting? What suggestions do you have?
      Respectfully.
      Mr. Jones

      • Chet Oswald Ebanks says:

Ain’t requesting anything Mr. Jones if that is your real name. Caymanians are sick and tired of so called elected governments saying they are for Caymanians. Importing slave labor on work permits does nothing to help Caymanians. As I stated a Premier and Governor who only likes grabbing every photo opportunity. You all where elected by the Caymanian voters. You serve the people not work permit holders. We Caymanians have had enough. You get it Mr. Jones. Did you not see them again at the West Bay public beach the other day with Daddy Dart crew.

        • Anonymous says:

I think you are missing the point. The reasons foreign workers are imported is because Caymanians won’t do the job, or their aren’t enough Caymanians to do all the jobs, or there aren’t qualified/able Caymanians to do the job.
Are to call these people slaves is highly offensive.
