(CNS): The Cayman Islands Government will fly the national flag on all government buildings at half-mast today in honour of Wellesley Howell, who died on 23 July at the age of 106. Cayman’s oldest resident at the time of his death was born in Jamaica in 1915 and moved here in 1958 to join a band. He was a saxophonist and craftsman who made and mended shoes at his George Town store for decades. Howell’s funeral will take place Saturday, 7 August, at the First Baptist Church on Crewe Road. The viewing will be from 1:30pm-2:30pm with the service immediately following.

I truly am happy for the respect given to him and IN NO way discrediting it but still a little surprised at the attention given to him. May he rest in peace.

Speaking of expats who came here, made contributions, will we be doing this for all nice expats who came here and made positive contributions?

Just wondering and nothing to do with Mr. Howell but treatment that will now be expected to be given to others, like flag half-mast, face on stamp etc

Hello 514? Most people now are leaving us in their teens and age 20 something. To live to be over 100 is rare. Fantastic!! The flag should be half mast for a month!!!
In Barbadoes if someone lives to be 100 they put their image on a postage stamp to honour them.
RIP to his soul and condolences to his family and friends.
