Pedestrian hit in Bodden Town, seriously injured
(CNS): Police have issued a short press release confirming that a pedestrian was knocked down and seriously injured in Lower Valley this morning. The person was hit by an as yet unidentified vehicle on Shamrock Road close to Woodland Drive. They were taken by ambulance to the Cayman Islands Hospital, where they are said to be in a serious condition at this time.
Police have closed the road where the collision occurred and officers are on scene carrying out investigations. As a result, traffic coming from the Eastern Districts is being diverted through Agricola Drive into Daniel’s Drive.
Thanking drivers for their cooperation and apologising for the inconvenience, police said an update will be issued once the road is reopened.

I live just after Woodland Drive and asked many times to impose a reduce speed limit to 30 miles going east. Each time I have to exit my private drive, I have to take extreme caution because the drivers and dump truck are speeding which makes me nervous especially when kids are in the car. Two years ago a pedestrian was killed in front of his house walking across the street to catch a bus. When Will NRA answer there phones to hear the amount of complaints of Shamrock road, especially Between Woodland Drive and Will-T drive.
That’s my Nephew also who was hit by that Motor Vehicle … We his family in Jamaica, fondly called him Binny Boy , as he was a tiny new born …
He is currently battling for his life in the Hospital, after he was hit on his way to his place of work …
That’s also my Nephew who was hit by a Motor Vehicle. We fondly called him Binny Boy, because he was such a tiny new born baby …
But, he has grown into such a handsome and fine you man … now battling for his life in a Hospital from merely going to work …
i rang them many time reporting dangerous driving….they never did a thing.
Its sad your going about your buisness and bam end up in the hospital fighting for your life.that is my nephew who was hit yesterday morning ,my heart is torn and my eyes in tears.I am in Jamaica but as other writter said do something to prevent these serious accident or minor
Very sorry to hear someone has been hurt. Has anyone noticed that the white “Stop” lines at a few of the roads exiting onto Shamrock Road, on the Agricola side have all been painted about 2 feet out into the main road. It always surprises me that there hasn’t been an accident at one of them. It may legally be where that side road ends, but those lines still jut out into the main road and could cause an accident.
I have footage on my dash cam of poor Police driving. I followed a Police car last week from town to Shamrock Road. I followed the car as it passed over 3 roundabouts and there was no attempt to use indicators. How can we expect a better standard of driving when the traffic law enforcers don’t abide by the rules?
Mr Byrne can we please get the Police to set a better example ?
Police ineptitude is evident all around. Trainer gate and the fervor with which Sandra Hill is being pursued may both be indications of problems far worse than an ability to follow the road code. These contribute to a growing disdain for the authorities. There are many excellent officers, but the tolerance of so many of overt incompetence is staggering.
same here with my dashcam.
never seen a police car use its indicators once.
commisioner byrne…do you want the footage?
If it is true that he ran over to catch a bus and the car hit him on the way to the bus we really need a good review of the bus stoping procedures. There has been a few deaths an more hits from this. I remember a while ago a lady was hit by a dump truck in breakers running to a bus. Isn’t that a blind corner right there by woodland ? No street lights or were they off already ?
Does “as yet unidentified vehicle” mean hit and run?
Most likely a public bus. Too many officers with their little side gig drivers.
Shamrock Road has no redeeming features at any point of its long stretch.
It’s badly designed. Badly constructed. Has too many roads feeding into it on both sides compounding ther congestion. Oh, and people generally drive like idiots on it, with few having an understanding of the misery their inconsiderate driving causes. For every car swerving in and out of lanes, there’s a knock on of several carts braking.
Every time there is an accident the entire road grinds to a halt.
I hope the pedestrian recovers fully, and I hope that other road users think about their driving…but I doubt it.
Between this and then cuc blocking morning traffic on SS road it took me 2 hours to get to work. I hope the pedestrian recovers and I hope CUC understand they need to work outside of rush hour.
Much of South Sound was without power for almost 5 hours this morning because a light pole jumped in front of an unsuspecting driver, again.
CUC really needs to train their light poles better.
CUC had to replace the broken pole but they could have easily closed the eastbound lane and kept the westbound open as it had the the morning rush hour(s)
Yeah but then you might not be sure they are working/busy…
question for comissioner byrne:
my dash cam records hundred of serious driving offences every week…why can’t i submit the footage to the rcips?
They don’t care about traffic offenses. It’s basically a free for all around here.
The very well resourced ‘invisible’ RCIPS don’t seem to be too bothered about the daily never ending traffic collisions-many of which sadly involve injury. There is no joined up thinking between CIG departments, or even a strategy to tackle the third-world driving problems here. The police should be able to receive dash-camera footage of traffic offences-Mine picks up thousands of dollars worth of potential fines every time I drive.
Why can’t you? Submit a tip on their website or send an email.
Because they still won’t care. Move here recently???
