(CNS): Cayman Airways Limited has added another flight to Kingston, Jamaica, this month and three additional flights to Miami, Florida, in October as part of the COVID-19 repatriation schedule. The national flag carrier said the flight to Kingston will depart on Thursday, 24 September, at 10:00am. Flights to Miami will leave at 10:00am on 1, 9 and 16 October.

These flights are for essential travel only. People interested in departing on one of them are urged to check all of the requirements for the trips before departure, given the variations in protocols to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

While those leaving do not need to clear their travel with the Cayman Islands Government, anyone wishing to return must contact TravelTime to access the flights.

Although Cayman is officially reopening its borders on 1 October, strict quarantine protocols will remain in place. Only those cleared by the CIG to travel from Kingston, Miami or Le Cieba on Cayman Airways, the fortnightly British Airways service from London or private jets will be given permission to enter.

Until the end fo this month they will then be required to quarantine in a government facility. After 1 October they can quarantine in their own or approved homes with the assistance of a geofencing device and under the supervision of the Public Health Department.

this ‘border opening plan’ is no plan at all….its a plan to let in a minisucle number of people under dracaonian lockdown measures.
our ‘perfect’ cayman bubble will suffocate the cayman economy to the point of no return. it’s basic economics that no-one in government seems to understand or want to discuss.

Even South Africa has a 72 hour pre test and opening from October 1st….What is wrong here?
      Look at Bermuda!

      • Anonymous says:

Bermuda, like South Africa, already has Covid circulating in its community. We do not. Spot the difference?

What is Minister Kirkconnell going to do with our ongoing corroding inventory of useless unflyable 737 MAX aircraft? Are we supposed to keep paying lease payments on aircraft nobody will ever want to fly in? Are we supposed to ignore all the technical faults and blindly accede to a perfunctory MCAS update? It seems the FAA is going to satisfy themselves with resolving a fraction of the stated problems in the months ahead…until the next crash I guess.

Well Boeing has said all the problems have been corrected but who can ever believe them after what has happened. Their reputation is now on a par with a toilet that won’t flush.
However CAL has plenty of freebie passengers who will take the risk to save money.

Travel time says the home quarantine plan is subject to the results of the trial with the BA flight.
So is it home quarantine, or maybe home quarantine? Every time you talk to travel time it’s a different story. If I have been approved to re enter Cayman as a Caymanian, why do I have to re apply if I want to change my flight date. What an archaic system. Approved is approved

there are also private planes coming in on the 17th allowed to self isolate

@4:44pm you’ve said it so right. Dealing with them is like pulling teeth. They are extremely out of the capacity. You give them you’re info and then a week later they email you asking you for the exact same information. Waste of time

Good luck to those trying to get back. It’s not as easy as you might think.

Why is cal only flying to miami and not Tampa? Greater Miami area have higher numbers of Covid 19 cases than the Tampa area. CAL decision to fly to Miami and not Tampa show no forward thinking on the part of CAL and its leaders.

Why not Chicago and New York, near where many of us winter expatriates live. We are the target audience for this program. It would be nice to be able to come (accepting the 14 day in home quarantine) without exposing ourselves to the cesspool of Miami during the layover.

Exactly @6:05. The crew sitting at home on full pay when they could be flying. Barbados, Trinidad etc all have special flights even to NYC, Cayman think Miami holy grail

Please be careful of the country and its people that you are allowing in cayman you know some of them have no disipling about them and so we may end up paying a bigger price than what we really bargain for, also it’s no work here so why letting back some of those people here for

This is not going to end well…

Do not open up to Any place, especially, UK, JA. LS. MI

So crew and pilots are quarantined for two weeks on their return?

    • Anonymous says:

I have asked this question and would would like to know where in the legislation this is written that the crew do NOT have to isolate.

CNS do you know where the rules are for the new isolation requirements and exemptions for crew?

E.g can one come to Cayman and isolate at there home with there family that lives in the house as well, does the family have to isolate them?

CAL crew do not get off the plane at out stations and the flight attendants are in full protected gear same as doctors and nurses are when working with COVID-19 positive patients! Just because you can’t think doesn’t mean CIG team isn’t! All precautions are taken!

      • Anonymous says:

SO…Where is the regulation to say they can do that?
They are leaving the country and re-entering there can NOT be a law for one and not the other or there must be a exemption for crew but ut must be in the legislation OR it not legal.

If I leave Cayman on my plane and land in Miami refuel and fly back I must isolate, so must they unless it is written into law!

        ah now i feel better.
Do not compare cabin crew to our front line medical staff who have had loads of training and practice of dealing with infectious people.

A 1 hour youtube video is not the same.

      • Anonymous says:

You do know that, despite their full protected gear, doctors and nurses isolate from their families upon return from work? A flight attendant is exposed to potential positives. The ignorance and hypocrisy simply cannot end.
