Agencies join forces in illegal immigration clampdown
(CNS): Immigration, customs and police joined forces again this week in an effort to clamp down on illegal immigration. Following an operation in George Town Thursday (19 October), a 21-year-old Jamaican national was arrested for overstaying for some 17 months. Officers from the three agencies raided a home in Windsor Park, where they suspected illegal immigrants were being harboured and other criminal activities were taking place. “The collaboration between immigration, customs and police has been going from strength to strength,” said Deputy Chief Immigration Officer Garfield Wong.
“The combined results to date are pleasing and we look forward to increasing our capability against those wanting to contravene the laws of the Cayman Islands,” he added.
Deputy Collector of Customs Jeff Jackson, who has responsibility for the Customs Border Protection portfolio, said, “Our strong partnership with police, immigration and other law enforcement agencies provides opportunities to be more effective in protecting our borders and the results over the past months speak for themselves.”
During the search, officers also recovered small amounts of drug paraphernalia and it is understood the arrested man is likely to be deported shortly. Officials added that this joint investigation is ongoing, and immigration, customs and police urge anyone with information about drug trafficking, illegal immigrants or other criminal activities to contact them, or to report anonymously.

Has immigration ever looked at the job seeking ads on ecaytrade from individuals who have “nanny” or “helper” experience or trade persons seeking “a days work”?
I suspect that those are people who are either not allowed to legally work on Island or who have had someone take a work permit out for them who has not full time work for the permit holder.
Also, is there a consequence when an employer does not have work for a permit holder but does not cancel the permit? I have never heard anything being enforced in that aspect.
Yes, we have to crack down on locals who permit shadow permits! They are a cause of our crime and it is time to enforce our laws. Any CI local caught spknsoring an underemployed work permit (you work for my 2 days a week) should do jail time. 1 week in prison should stop this permit abuse.
Anonymous 8:53am are you suggesting that an employer must guarantee that he/she must have full-time work before the permit are approved , good idea Immigration should implement , but they won’t because they would have less to sell .
It is already the law.
We all need to report these things when we see them. All we Caymanians keep saying is ” Cayman is gone boy” but we are the ones who can make a difference. We need to be awake about everything. One subject that seriously need to addressed is the Philipinos drivers licenses. There are those who brag that they buy them back home. I understand that within three months they can be exchanged for a Cayman license. What a shame. they also say that without that license it is difficult to get a good job in Cayman. There are so many accidents being caused because of their bad driving. Just wish that those responsible will look into this. They should be made to do a road test like everyone else and not an on line test.
Just Filipinos ? you cannot be serious.
8.26am I am astonished that you and 12 fellow Caymanians can blame Phillipinos for most of the accidents here. Caymanians lead the way in accidents, just look at your firemen and vehicle examiners as a small sample.
I never heard of Filipinos being involved in road accidentsin recent memories. You better check your info, man!
Everyday I thank God for our law enforcement agencies and personel who work really hard to protect our borders so as to help keep our beloved country, our communities and the people in them safe. The collaborated efforts of these departments are a “breath of fresh air” and are having a positive impact. We should all continue to encourage the strengthening of them and appreciate what they do by risking their lives everyday.
Alot of public criticism to public figures always help in production and better service would be the outcome . We should not believe them until we see their results, then give them credit for hard work .
There are endless and I mean endless people in cayman on work permits with little to no work and I am not lying.
I recently ran an ad was in shock by the what I was hearing when I called people to find out background current work etc
And when donald trump does this. He’s the anti christ.
Two different situations. The US is however an example of why you have to keep illegal immigration from becoming a big thing otherwise it becomes ‘too big to fail’ after a while.
I say all overstayers should be on a wanted list… Photos of them published with a reward, we will get rid of them in no time…. Guess what, I have no immigration training and came up with the solliution.✌?
I think you need to boast about collaboration when you have actually done something. One arrest does not make collaboration. More please.
Run ’em hot guys! Good work to all involved.
The headline should read, “Civil Servants Do Their Jobs”. We haven’t heard about how great the firemen are for a while.
But I keep reading on this site that immigration customs and police never enforce our laws??? Could this be our negative posters trying to see fake news.
with the hundreds of illegal over stayers and serious criminals on this island , catching one is really nothing to brag about.
any foreigner that commits any offence that carries a sentence of three months or more should be deported immediately period, end of story
