UK naval support ship to bring the governor’s new car

(CNS): A British naval vessel which is currently on deployment in the Atlantic for both disaster relief and counter narcotics operations is on its way to Cayman and is expected to arrive on Wednesday with a new car for the governor. RFA Lyme Bay will visit for five days and in addition to the humanitarian and relief supplies aboard the ship in the event of a hurricane or other natural or man-made disasters is a new flag car paid for by the UK government.
According to officials the ship was scheduled to approach Cayman Brac from the south-east and move along the north coast, Tuesday before passing between the Sister Islands and along Little Cayman’s south coast. It was expected to be at the eastern end of Cayman Brac at about lunchtime and clear Little Cayman by 4.30 pm.
When it arrives in Grand Cayman the commanding officer will call on Helen Kilpatrick and Premier Alden McLaughlin and he will host an on-board reception while the ship’s company will engage in a sporting event and the disaster relief teams will meet with local officials.
A Royal Navy Lynx Mk8 helicopter is also on board the support vessel for deployment to conduct counter narcotics operations and provide an airborne asset for surveillance, stores delivery and search and rescue if needed.
“My ship’s company and I are very much looking forward to the visit and to making and remaking relationships whilst being able to liaise with disaster management authorities regarding our capabilities,” said Captain Kim Watts ahead of the visit.
RFA Lyme Bay (L3007) is a Bay-class auxiliary landing ship dock (LSD(A)) of the British Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA). It is manned by 97 Royal Fleet Auxiliary sailors, along with 23 Royal Naval personnel for helicopter operations, 18 Royal Logistic Corps soldiers to operate the mexeflote and 27 Royal Marines and Royal Engineers in the Humanitarian and Disaster Relief (HADR) Troop. Think you will find that the British car industry is a major growth area, particular the Jaguar Land Rover Group. If the Governor has one those then he will be very satisfied.

They will be able to drive the [ insert make & model of car here ] straight off the Lyme. Fix the Crown onto the bumpers & drive away . Hope the Governor doesn’t forget the insurance on this one , last Rolls Royce of the former Gov’ was not comprehensively insured , when the Ritz forklift totalled it. I note that Mike Ryan didn’t pay for that either.

But that is exactly it, UK taxpayers are paying for it!
So what? don’t they pay for all expenses for the UK Government, its nothing new, all public servants are paid by tax payers money…whats the big deal?
As a UK taxpayer, I certainly consider the use of a Royal Navy vessel as a car ferry for a minor territorial official to be most inappropriate.
