Osbourne Bodden
Osbourne Bodden: Candidate for Bodden Town East.
Biography:
Bodden served two terms in government under the People’s Progressive Movement (PPM), first as a backbencher (2005-2009) and then as a member of Cabinet. After the 2013 elections gave the PPM a majority in the House, he became the Minister for Health, Sports and Culture. But in December 2014 Bodden was involved in a well-publicised and unpleasant incident, in which he verbally abused his chief officer, Jennifer Ahearn, and introduced the term “driftwood” into the local lexicon for first generation Caymanians.

From the 1 January 2015 to the end of the administration, the premier took over responsibility for health and culture, with Ahearn as the chief officer. Bodden then became the Minister for Community Affairs, Youth and Sports.
Bodden recently told CNS that he apologised in the immediate wake of the incident and that his former chief officer had accepted his apology at the time. “I responded inappropriately and I apologised,” he said, as he admitted that his verbal outburst, which was born of frustration, was completely inappropriate.
