Moxam plots path to alternative government
(CNS): Johann MoxamJohann Moxam: Independent candidate for George Town North - Managing Partner of Lainston International Management Ltd. Background and education: Moxam studied at the University of... More has revealed a developing alliance between himself and at least another seven candidates that will present the country with a genuine alternative to the current administration. Moxam, the challenger for George Town North, said that the group, which includes Alric Lindsay, Sammy Jackson, Bernie Bush and Chris SaundersChristopher Saunders: Incumbent for Bodden Town West. Biography: Saunders is a certified Public Accountant and has held senior positions within the banking, telecommunications and financial... More, will be growing over the next three weeks into a full blown “coalition of the willing” to provide a possible pathway to a new government.
Speaking at Jackson’s campaign launch in Red Bay on Wednesday evening, Moxam told the crowd that “help is on the way”, before he indicated that several candidates in the race who share the same values and policy positions are talking about how they can form a solid alliance. The goal is to present a viable alternative government before people go the polls.
With no one group fielding enough candidates to win outright without an alliance, Moxam told CNS that he believes this ‘coalition of the willing’, which will include some incumbents as well as a number of new viable candidates, can win enough seats to lead a different coalition to the one being proposed by Alden McLaughlinAlden McLaughlin (PPM): Red Bay MP, Premier, Minister of International Trade, Investment, Aviation and Maritime Affairs (MITIAMA). Biography: McLaughlin has been a member of the... More and Roy McTaggartRoy McTaggart (PPM): George Town East MP, Minister of Finance and Economic Development Political Career: • Successfully ran in the 2013 as a Coalition for... More.
Moxam said that within the next few weeks, after each candidate in the new alliance has had the chance to make announcements on their own hustings, the group will take shape.
“The purpose is to present voters with a potential government to avoid the scrambling and closed-door horse-trading on the night after the election,” he said. “We have all learned lessons from the last government, and while we are not a party with a leader, we are an alliance with shared values that will be endorsing each other well before election day.”
Moxam explained, “We began conversations months ago about the need for integrity, honesty and transparency in government, as well as policies that work. We hope that, as we present an aligned policy platform and a commitment to ethical government, the alliance will win the confidence of voters.”
While the question remains as to who would be premier from among the group, there are at least four individuals who would be capable of holding this office, he said. That decision will depend on which of the eight or more members of the team are returned to office, he said, but the priority is to commit to each other and the work that needs to be done.
Since declaring the early election, McLaughlin, the current premier, has insisted that the PPM-led coalition is the only viable option. Although he is fielding eight ProgressivesThe People's Progressive Movement (PPM), also known as the Progressives, was founded in 2002 in response to the launch in 2001 of the United Democratic... More in the race and two independent coalition members, the PPM’s path to government is broad.
McLaughlin has denied any plans to campaign alongside McKeeva BushMcKeeva Bush (CDP), West Bay West MLA Speaker of the LA, Leader of the Cayman Democratic Party. Biography: Bush is the longest serving member and... More, but the PPM has no candidates nominated in West Bay and the party has not endorsed any candidates running against Bush and his small three-way alliance in the district.
This suggests that while McLaughlin may prefer a coalition without Bush, his history of political maneuvering makes it clear he will not rule it out. There are also several seats where, even if McLaughlin is unable to steer his own PPM or preferred candidate to victory, he will likely be able to co-opt the winner into his government if he winds up with the larger group.
But if McLaughlin loses to Jackson or if the ‘coalition of the willing’ brings home more members than the Progressive coalition, then Cayman may see the change that many people are longing for, not just from the individual faces who have dominated politics over the last two decades but in the conduct of politics as well.

I believe Johan should have Wayne Panton join his group and drop Bernie.
Also, I believe Andre Ebanks is with the PPM, even though he says he is independent, after all he worked for the PPM government – just saying.
Does Johann have any channels open with either “independent” in WBS?
Ladies and Gentlemen… introducing the Cayman Marl Road party. Loud mouths, lots and lots of talk and zero substance. It’s vomit inducing how naive they think people are. I wonder what they are giving Sandra in return for promoting their campaigns? Impunity from indiscretions in their personal and professional lives perhaps? Lord knows this whole bunch needs it. Dig deeper people.
so true..
Not really.
Regarding the capability and experience to run the country, let’s compare the experience and qualifications of this group to what we have now.
John Jon – no qualifications no experience
Joey (also of Jamaican heritage) – no qualifications no experience
Tara – qualified but no prior experience
Roy – same as Tara
So the truth is; we have been allowing the country to be run by unqualified inexperienced people and need to change this mistake in this election. I will vote for change !
The PPM dislike bots are in full force but your comment is spot on…
A good team would be Roy, Alric, Johann, Sammy, Andre, Catherine, Wayne, Ozzie, Justin – my top picks Can’t decide on the rest.
Is the situation with the country that much of a dire position that we need a complete overhaul of the existing government?
Did we have some major scandal or misappropriation of public spending that is sending the country in a downward spiral?
Well it is under these situations that you elect officials without any ministerial experience and or public office experience, let alone foreign relations etc. Why is someone like Wayne Panton not part of this coalition? I am just asking.
To answer your first two paragraphs: Yes and yes.
Stop dreaming.
Wake up.
Both CDP and PPM were voted OUT in May 2017. The arch-enemy parties then formed a Unity govt, betraying both political bases. That happened, not a dream, more like a waking nightmare.
Johan – Leader of the CMR party… or will he have to fight it out with Sandra Hill’s other puppets Chris Saunders and Alric Lindsey? What is they’re campaign logo? “We’ll say whatever it takes”, “who cares about the truth”.
Their*
Cute
Was thinking of supporting Sammy…however, I’ve now changed my mind. Bernie ??? WTF
I have good friends who are friends with assholes. But you don’t want to support someone just because of who they decide to WORK with in order to improve the standard of living of this country?
I don’t exactly like Bernie either. But at least he isn’t a convicted criminal. If he was that much of a terrible person, Sammy wouldn’t align himself with him.
Your alternative to Sammy? A man who doesn’t seem to have a problem with a woman beater or two.
You got this Moxam. The good Lord knows we need a change. Thanks for stepping up to the plate. Just be careful with Saunders who is Jamaican at heart. Good luck and God Bless you!!!
Saunders is not just Jamaican at heart, he and his extended Jamaican family are solidly.commited to turning Cayman into the country that they abandoned, after screwing it up.
Don’t let them turn us into Jamaica.
I am welcome to some change but not that drastic.
A bunch of guys with no public office experience, expects the country to accept such a bold and drastic change? Are you kidding me?
Saunders is also hungry for power with posture, that he will go wherever in hopes of achieving it.
Not in these times when the world is that vulnerable and volatile. We don’t have the luxury of learning by mistakes.
2021 Muppets United Party!
The only muppet they missing from their platform is Mario Rankin, the littlest muppet of this cabal and choir boy of Moxam.
A lot of wind here but expect absolutely no action when it matters.
Anyone else recalls Saunders saying in a house sitting that he did not get elected “by being nice”? I am not saying we need softies, but we need people who will not cut others’ throats to get ahead. Integrity, ethics and laws must prevail or we will be back where we left off.
“United we stand. Divided we fall.”
Pay attention to how we are being further divided by these multiple political parties.
A bunch with egos as wide as the ocean.
Being Apolitical, none of these guys have been in a position to demonstrate the ability to lead a country.
Stick with the evil that you know in this instance.
“none of these guys have been in a position to demonstrate the ability to lead a country”.
Oh, except they have. You probably just haven’t been paying attention.
And knowing Sammy and Johann personally, I can assure you that they’re the exact opposite of evil, and they wouldn’t choose to align themselves with anyone who is.
So it’s actually the evil you know vs the good you can get to know.
There are 5 seats in Cabinet. The 5 people I think should fill those seats are:
Wayne Panton
Roy McTaggart
Ezzard Miller (I know. I know.)
Michael Myles
Andre Ebanks
The last two are somewhat inexperienced but have a lot more experience with Govt and policy than many past Ministers.
I’d also love to have 2 or 3 women on my list, but unfortunately there are none qualified for Cabinet who are running.
Thoughts?
Thoughts: you are a raving lunatic
🤣 well I asked 🤣
I want to know how they will handle the reopening of our borders. I notice they are regurgitating the same old: education, roads, etc and the best is the Biden win: we are not Alden. I want to know how they would have handled the pandemic because and how they will reopen our borders safely. We won’t need to worry about education, roads, and all the other stuff if people are getting sick since everyone hasn’t taken the vaccine. As for transparency and acting like Alden …he already is as he’s seeking a coalition which is the same thing as a party. They just don’t give it a name.
The politicians don’t actually come up with the plans. It’s the civil service who are the experts, having researched etc then provide recommendations and the way forward based on what a Minster may have in mind. In many cases the Minster may actually have not clue, but they get to vote on or push an idea Cabinet makes a choice. It would be good to find out if a Minister has even researched, written or provided information that informs a policy document.
What the current government is doing in partnership with senior civil servants, which anyone can do, is get the information gathered from around the world see what the experts are saying regarding covid what works for border control particularly in small nations and move from there. The Chamber of Commerce is also giving some sound advice.
It scares me when a group of politicians get together and admit that they share the same values, especially when you know the “values” of some of the individuals in the group.
Well, it can’t be any worse or unappetizing as the current set up with Alden and Mac. Why not, the horse has bolted anyhow with regards to development, finance, tourism, dump, education, health, cost of living…there’s not much left to ruin. Good luck Johann, you’ll need it
Renard boy you need to get elected first.
You will not be elected in GTN in 2021.
Without a by-election your next chance will be 2025.
Plan for that, develop your alliances for that and stop talking #£&@
Poor fella had a little chance till he aligned himself with these numpties
Whichever independents get in, please push for continuity and efficiency in the Parliament, Ie,:
– table the pending PAC reports – public funds are being grossly mismanaged as a result of SAGCs not adhering to the relevant laws.
– Two hours to convince 17 people to agree on something is ridiculous
– Choose a Speaker from outside; that way everyone gets to speak on behalf on their constituents.
A lot more needs improvement.
Don’t forget us; Brac and LC need change too!
Sure! You got Elvis, for one!
If they get André, Myles, Wilks and Ebanks on board, we’ll be talking!
The strong impression I get is that Chris is dying for power and if can get this group together will finally be most senior vs staying with Arden.
But Chris, Alric, Arden, Johann would want Sammy for his legal skills and if Sammy part of their team more difficult for him to address the fact that there are majority of Jamaicans and Trinidadians running things, stating with civil service and public servants, and this does not promote fairness, or Generational Caymanians with opportunities.
Sammy do your own thing. If not elected support the MPs who want to make the changes to development law and regs to allow enforcement.
Wait a minute, is Saunders ditching Arden?.
Arden will not be an option
Oh yes! This could be an excellent alternative to the Alden group. Anything but PPM or CDP
You need to dump Saunders. QUICK!
Saunders thinks he is an accountant and will want the finance ministers job….judging by his non compliance problems , God help Cayman if that happens .
Thank you for forming an alliance early 0; and based on principles and not on expediency! Our county fell victim to the horse trading right after the last election, please don’t let history repeat itself, and no Wayne please!
Lord have mercy
Jackson and Moxam = DREAM TEAM! Both have courage! This is what we need so desperately!
You had me until I read Chris Saunders, we can’t afford to promote the Jamaicanisation of Cayman through Chris Saunders .
and Joey Hew
Don’t forget Alric.
McKeeva Bush has singlehandedly done more to contribute to the Jamaicanisation of this island than Chris Saunders could ever dream of doing. Not everyone with a Jamaican accent has a hidden agenda to turn Cayman into Jamaica.
Yes! Now that’s something to celebrate! Go get parliament guys!
Chris Sammy Johann and Wayne would make a great team of new leaders for Cayman. We need new blood and new leadership to emerge because we cannot afford to keep McKeeva Alden Joey Moses and the others selling out the country
Chris, Sammy, Wayne and Johanne would not last a dog watch. That combination will crash and burn in short order. And who will be Premier? All four would want the role. Nope.. that is not a stable and workable group.
Johan Chris Sammy and the rest are diligent and will have a plan that is better than Alden and McKeeva’s group of yes men. Cayman needs change and we must remove the PPM menace before it gives away Cayman to dart
Well.. I prefer experience and success over chat and promise. Just saying. I will vote for the current government that has the experience and a lot of success.
No thanks. I’ve sat in traffic long enough now.
Define “success” in your eyes because I’ve seen NONE
7:31 DART owns CAYMAN how can you give it to him!
I like Johan and believe he can be an excellent MP. But not sure I want him to be with this crew.
Why? Because he’s not sold out to whomever you want him to be in bed with?
No.. because he is getting into bed with any political pimp he can find.
you obviously do not know Johann if that is what you think. you are way wide of the mark and wrong
He meets up with Sandra Hill that’s all I need to know about his integrity.
What are you drinking, it is a fantastic group, the meeting yesterday night was very informative, and those of us in attendance were really inspired and the first time in many years, there was hope on the horizon!
9:25 what did they PROMISE!
Fantastic for what? They have no history or experience of governing. All sound and fury…..This government has done a great job.
Unfortunately, I liked this comment by accident but meant to dislike it. Also, how do you expect the new candidates to get this experience of governing in the first place if you don’t give them the chance? Alden and McKeeva were new once, but it’s easy to forget that since they’ve been in power for years. How is that fair? How is it fair for the same people to be in power for so long? I don’t feel like I’m living in a democracy.
And has this current government really done a great job? Because I think they have failed on a number of basic, but important issues. Everything from education, to health care to the dump. No man, these guys need to go. They don’t care about the environment, and they don’t care about the Caymanian people.
As of right now there are 22 ups and 22 downs to this post. More evidence to my theory that April will be chaotic!
Hmmmm….Johann, I don’t know. You may wish to revisit your alliances. Lindsay, Jackson & Saunders, really?? I thought your aspirations were different!
No.. that is exactly the group he aspires to be with. And they aspire to be with him. You see one you see them all. God help us with that coalition.
I agree that cozying up with some in this alliance will hurt Johann’s votes.
That’s too bad… maybe Alden cozying up with McBeater might hurt his votes too. Oh wait, Alden’s supporters are still living in 2013 and think that McKeeva is his archenemy.
What are his aspirations anyway?
To run up his big mouth
Lol, at least he has the balls to go out there and make a stand. What are you doing?
10:21 is on point.
Not voting for him for a start or supporting anyone that uses a gossip blog as their platform to get their message out. He’s bitter and lazy. How does he explain the fact that his partner is the mouth piece for Dart? All a bit about face and zero substance. In fact, he’s the mouth piece for the people that actually get work done.
Running up my big mouth 👄
Johann, Alric and Sammy are all like-minded individuals, and if elected, would be excellent MPs. Chris Saunders, I’m less enthusiastic about because like most MPs, he was silent on the McBeater situation, but I assume that they wish to align with him because he’s sensible and easy to work with. I would love for Johann, Alric and Sammy to be elected – that would be a power trio. But they can’t do everything on their own. Who else do you expect them to align with?
We need to put aside any personal grudges we have against candidates and start looking at the bigger picture. I want Cayman to have a good future, but I just don’t see that happening with this current government. I don’t see that happening with leadership of Alden and the PPM (or what’s left of the UDP). If Alden gets re-elected, I would certainly like for him to come to his senses and do a good job, but I don’t think that will happen.
All I’m saying is, at least consider giving this new group a chance. It simply isn’t fair for the same people to be in power for so long, and it’s even worse when they’ve showed on numerous occasions that they don’t have the best interest of the country at heart. They don’t care about the environment, and they don’t care about the Caymanian people.
7:37 Johann, Alric, Sammy, you will need
more than that!
Finally, yes, it is time to rid Cayman of the PPM and the UDP. They have been in power since 2001 and they cannot blame the ills of this country on anyone else . they have done there time and all need to be retired..
Let’s do this Cayman.
Please mesh with Wayne Panton Mr. Johann. You all are of a very similar mind. I personally don’t believe in the party system, but if you are going to make alliances, please do so with people who genuinely care about the environment and the people.
I desperately hope you are elected to Parliament. You have the energy and intellect which we need to move forward into a new era.
REspect
Wayne cares about the environment but not people in my first hand experience.
Why? Did you not like the hand-up assistance offerred? Sometimes we have to take the advice given an make the effort ourselves.
What? Get rid of one tyrant to replace him with an even bigger one, in every sense!
6:05 Explain what you mean by moving Forward
I thought the plan was opposite!
How did that work out for his C4C?
Moxam was not a candidate for C4C this is his first time running for office
Moxam was one of the driving forces behind C4C, stop trying to alter history.
No he wasn’t. He may have supported C4C, but he’s not tight with the real driving forces behind C4C – Johann isn’t their type.
Then what type is he?
