Active COVID cases climb to at least 1,425
(CNS): With another 125 community transmissions of SARS-CoV-2, including four more cases confirmed on the Brac, and one traveller testing positive between Tuesday and Wednesday morning, the number of confirmed active cases of the virus in the Cayman Islands has climbed to more than 1,425, accounting for well over half of the cases recorded here since March 2020.
But since today’s results from Grand Cayman have not yet been release, the number is expected to be higher. And with this steep and sudden increase of positive COVID cases, hospital admissions are also growing. There are now eleven patients in the hospital, and although no one is on a ventilator, two people are being given oxygen.
Officials said that all of the patients were stable and there are no pediatric admissions. However, the age, comorbidities or vaccination status of the patients has not been released.
A total of 1,115 PCR tests were conducted between 8am Tuesday and 8am Wednesday. On the Sister Islands, where the data is more up to date, as of 8am Thursday there were 76 active cases, four of them identified in the previous 24 hours and all from the community.
Public Health has still not released the number of people or households in isolation but many businesses, schools and government agencies continue to be impacted by staff who have tested positive for the virus or who are close contacts of those who have and are required to isolate as a result of non-vaccinated household members.
Since the Isolation Support Call Centre began operating on Monday, 25 October, government has assisted 110 people who found themselves required to isolate suddenly and were unprepared. The programme is designed to help people who do not have a debit or credit card, lack the financial means to purchase groceries or supplies, or have no one on island who can help them with supplies while they are in isolation.
Meanwhile, the vaccination programme continues. 56,887 people (80% of the population) have had at least one dose and 77% have had two doses. Almost 5,000 people have had a booster shot, which are now being offered to all teachers and uniformed services.
From Monday anyone over 40 who had their second shot at least six months previous.y can also get their third shot.

Reading about your rates of road accidents, drug taking and gun and knife crime, Covid would be very low down on my list of worries if I lived in Cayman!
The mosquitos are more dangerous
Isn’t it interesting that Pfizer is also making the pill that helps? Hmm.
I wonder…
…how I will be treated when I return?
…if I will be treated unkindly if I’m not recognized as someone who lives on the island?
…what will happen if I mention I’m visiting from the states?
…if those “no tourism until 2023” shirts will be prominently displayed for all to see?
…what happens if tourists decide they are unwanted and don’t return?
I suppose haters are gonna hate.
What happens when infected tourists bring the next wave?
Well for the vaccinated not much.
Not much for the unvaccinated either as our results are showing. All are fine regardless of vaccine status
Come back in two weeks and let’s see if you can still say the same.
And for the unvaccinated that have underlying medical conditions? Or the unvaccinated children?
99.98% will be fine
So in our islands, 140 will not “be fine,” according to your calculations. Nothing to lose sleep over, unless you happen to be one of them. 😥
The visitors will all be double or triple jabbed with a negative pcr test pre arrival. They are no threat at all. And on the off chance that they do catch it between their negative 72 hour test and flying in, whilst being vaccinated, they are not going to be any threat compared to all the people in cayman already either unvaccinated or spreading the same virus island wide over the last two weeks. There is no basis for reacting to our current outbreak by saying we should change the November 20 opening plan.
How much your condo rent for? Deposit required?
I don’t rent out because I do rent of others. That answer your pathetic response?
Less than you it seems. Guessing you have a private jet and killing it on the domestic rental market?
It is stupid uneducated comments like this that make things worse. A negative PCR test means you are not INFECTIOUS on the day you took the test, it does not mean YOU DON’T HAVE THE VIRUS. Do you not read the news of those testing positive when they come out of quarantine?
And tested 5-6 times during their week’s stay.
Will not happen because they have to be fully vaccinated to come in. Worry about the 20% here who are not vaccinated Bobo.
12% of those are children under the age of 12 who will not even likely know if they catch the rona. The other 8% I couldn’t give two shits about quite frankly. They have made their choice.
Worry about your own. That is where the next wave will be coming from. That is where the wave is coming from now.
@6:21..Can’t have it both ways..non-vaccinated are 80% of our hospital cases so far..they are all from community spread, not travellers..
Our bubble is no longer, that being said people are arriving every day on flights and the covid cases from travellers(whether we call them tourists or not) are minimal. Most of what we have now are community cases simply because there is a small section of the population that believes that it is fine if they are positive to go out and infect others rather than staying in quarantine.
If we look across to the Turks and Caicos, there cases, hospitalizations and deaths are from community spread not from tourists.
So many people here have embraced the USA political culture and infuse their political affiliations with the two political parties there and like those in the USA,for one party, they don’t believe vaccines work, don’t believe in masks or social distancing and the other side quite the opposite.
The good thing for us now that hospitalizations which undoubtedly will continue to rise the rate is only about .01% of those hospitalized . The sad news is that conversely approximately 80% of those hospitalized are not vaccinated which is to be expected but none of them are on a ventilator. All in all, I think we are doing well despite our delayed onset of covid..
This wave is coming from community and will continue because people are continuing breaching quarantine when they are positive infecting others.
The tourists pose the least risk because they will have to be vaccinated, get a negative PCR test before arriving and a typical stay is only about 5 days.
Zero people could breach quarantine and the wave will continue. Go to any bar, restaurant or school and you’ll understand why.
The only way to slow this down would be to close inside dining and bars and there is no way that’s happening. Because otherwise what will the tourists do? Where will they go? The beach? Not going to work for guests at the Marriott.
Then it will be even between them and the locals.
I honestly think no one should visit here and all expats should leave, taking the financial market with them. That seems to be what Caymanians want. Let’s see how they get on alone! The irony is Covid will still be here. Good luck with the fishing!
You mean the double vaccinated visitors, to the double or treble vaccinated locals.
Almost like this vaccine isn’t
I think we are doing a good job all by ourselves – tourists have more chance of catching it from us that us from them
The tourists will be tested 4 times in a 6-7 day stay. Might even be twice in one day. Don’t worry about them. No chance of covid slipping thru on them. May have to treat them for covid testing fatigue, though. So silly for those who are vaccinated especially those who are triple vaccinated.
Should be PCR before arrival, PCR to go home. Not day 2 and 4.
People on a 6-7 day trip are getting their PCR on day 4 or 5 ( just past middle of trip) to get results before departing. People on a 10-12 week trip will be getting their departure PCR on day 10 so a test mid holiday may make sense.
Obviously all those like you have a mental meltdown. Again. And it won’t spread as fast as the infected Caymanian wave is spreading throughout the mostly Caymanian community Bobo. Try to relax. Remember that you most likely won’t even know you have it when you get it. Just like most infected tourist and infected Caymanians.
the wave is already here and as 90 percent of the tourists will be vaccinated you dont need to worry about that , however you need to worry about yourself and your own negative thoughts about reopening
You won’t feel any hostility, we are eager to welcome you all back!
Just treat us, and our home, with respect, and follow our protocols, and you will enjoy every minute back here!
I’ve not seen 1 t shirt or sign about tourists yet.
There are no t shirts. And if there are we will make double the t shirts: ‘welcome to cayman, please be vaccinated, negative tested, social distance and support our economy’. 2023? Jokers.
My family is so excited for our trip. Long time visitors. We are all triple vaxxed. We all wear masks for our jobs and will not stop because we are on holiday. We also social distance because we are so used to doing so since March 2020. We hope you do the same when we are in close contact. We hope you are happy to see us again. We have missed you all. We have missed the beach. We missed the sunrise and sunsets. We are looking forward to relaxing as a family, but, we will not be leaving our covid protocols behind. We do not want covid, either. Please keep us safe, too.
Welcome back! Have a safe holiday and enjoy Cayman!
Then why don’t you pay attention to the CDC list? You take their advice to have a shot but ignore the travel list?
You won’t be leaving when you think you are. Bring extra clothes for your quarantine.
We’re missing the beach as well….about three miles of it😬😬
….How would we not be keeping you safe? Mind your own and you’ll be fine. We don’t want to be up around you either.
Same here. We hire a car, visit a few restaurants, and dive but mainly spend our time in our family unit on the quietest beach we can find because we want to escape the pressures of work on holiday!
Don’t come with your covid protocols
I cannot believe the negative dislikes ……………..wow you lot really have a chip on your shoulder actually more like a frigging potato
We have almost no protocols so it won’t be any issue
The sensible rule abiding tourists we want do not want to visit a CDC Level 4 ‘Red List’ destination anyway.
CDC listings are pretty useless no-one cares about them. The only issue is if one tests positive just before the flight home.
Well, good luck with anyone following CDC recommendations for travel..We are Americans, we explore, we travel and yes some of us will break the rules of your country. (not me.) I have been all over the world and I don’t base my trips on the CDC recommendations. Remember these are simply recommendations not laws. I follow the rules of the country I am going to visit and find out what requirements are needed by them before I go. Long before this pandemic many countries required that you get a vaccine, be it for yellow fever, malaria etc. no big deal, it’s for my protection first and for theirs as well. Knock on wood I have done really well so far.
Stupid post 3:32 pm. Looking to start problems. As a tourist, if anyone doesn’t like me being down there, I will do the same thing I do at home, walk on by and just chalk it up to jealousy, ignorance or both. I may get a chuckle out of the t-shirts, but nothing is going to ruin my holiday.
Nothing will ruin your holiday? Nothing quite like an arrogant tourist. Will you be putting your towel on a beach chair overnight to reserve it too?
I’d wonder how locals will stay covid free over the holidays when they gather in large groups with family and friends and not worry so much about tourists visiting who are vaccinated with negative PCR tests.
Maybe buy an extra present or a food staple instead of a t-shirt to send negative vibes to someone who is coming down to enjoy themselves and the island. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Maybe the remaining 20 percent should go and get vaccinated and before they go to these gatherings (which I think they shouldn’t go to but know they will anyway0 starting doing LFT test and if possible and you know date of your party, go and get a PCR test done a couple of days before.
I am a Caymanian and I will be wearing a t-shirt welcoming our tourists back. We appreciate what you do for our economy. Unfortunately, we do have some very selfish and undeserving people here that believe that the Government should continue to support them financially and couldn’t care less if we re-open. Unfortunately for them, reality will soon hit them because that Government tit that they have been sucking on is slowly drying up and will soon be gone, then what will they do.
That “do unto others” thing doesn’t fit with the Caymanian interpretation of religion and life… LOL
They still love your money though – even the ones who are complaining about allowing tourists back. Unless, of course, they are already filthy rich and don’t care that others are struggling to make ends meet right now.
Even the rich want it open, we want to leave
yup, I’ll be avoiding you, no offense, but I’m not taking any chances.
I think what is happening is out of our hands as the changes required are humanly impossible but are required for our continued existence.
Massive factory farms filled to the brim with animals who cannot move about spread diseases. The farms are necessary for the insatiable appetite for meat and to feed a growing global population. Until this stops, more and more diseases will appear, each mutating to become more deadly. Covid isn’t the first pandemic and it certainly won’t be the last. How we deal with this one will show how we deal with the next one, and the next one, and so on.
There are news reports out of America that 8 states are seeing a new mutation of Delta. That being said, we should prepare now, and not be caught flat footed.
KFC is what you dexribe. They love it in Cayman.
Chill out Greta.
Covid is here to stay. I’ve heard it a million times.
But are we just going to keep testing and quarantining on a loop forever? So someone quarantines, goes back to work and catches it again and quarantines again?
Vaccination mandates for everyone. Then we can live with it.
The new Pfizer tablet that cuts hospitalisations of those who have symptoms by 90% is the next game changer.
Everywhere will now be able to open up and healthcare systems will not be overrun – unless of course the “anti-vaxxers” also come up with mumbo-jumbo on this as well.
Anti vaxxers will still believe some backwards assclown on YouTube who tells them its a control pill. Or they heard from their best friends sisters boyfriends mum that her nipples fell off after she took it. Yaaaawn
And she grew a tail. My cousins fairy-ferret saw it and told the family dog. It’s true.
Our whole strategy is quarantine everyone which just punishes those who follow the rules and do what is right for the community while others don’t care because they stupidly don’t believe they need to be vaccinated and don’t follow the rules. Something needs to change. At the very least unvaccinated people should not have the same freedoms as the rest of us. Not if you expect people to quarantine possibly multiple times. CIG needs to do something here. I’m not quarantining again.
No law enforcement for Caymanians are what got you where you are today. Are you saying that you would like the laws enforced evenly? Is that even possible?
To 12:54 you have not, unsurprisingly, completely missed the point. Living entails some risk. It’s unavoidable. Prosecuting someone after the fact doesn’t save lives by the way. But as I said, if you want to live by yourself in a bunker forever because it makes you feel safer, be my guest, but don’t make me do that too.
As for criminalizing covid transmission, that is what your type of thinking wants, not mine.
CNS should add an Hysterical Emoji button.
The US government has pre-ordered millions of doses of the new Pfizer oral anti-viral medication that can cut Covid deaths by 90%. Hopefully at some point someone who does purchasing for the HSA will think about doing the same. from Guardian/Reuters
“If authorized by the FDA we may soon have pills that treat the virus in those who become infected,” Biden was quoted as saying by Reuters.
“We’ve already secured millions of doses. The therapy would be another tool in our toolbox to protect people from the worst outcomes of Covid.”
Pfizer said there will be only 180K treatments available in 2021, 50 million or more in 2022.
So this is more for 2022.
But this is a remarkable breakthrough – a simple pill that blocks virus replication.
Only after you contract covid and only for people who are most vulnerable. Hopefully that changes or the anti-vaxxers will be still be treating themselves with parasitic horse medicine.
But would the anti-vaxers take it?
Nah, anti-vaxxers ain’t taking that..As long as Dr.T is dishing out the ivermectin prescriptions nothing will change. So sad the Governor didn’t give him permission to bring in his Sinovac vaccine. He would have made a nice profit and the anti-vaxxers that follow him would at least have some form of protection even if it isn’t the most efficacious vaccine.
lol . it was just a matter of time for Big Pharma (in U.S., UK, and Europe) to just re-package Ivermectin, get a patent and approval from corrupt FDA and wallah: a money making tablet! And we will call it an ugly name, molnupiravir
CNS: Ivermectin is an anti-parasitic drug. Molnupiravir is an anti-viral drug. It is predictable and depressing that the anti-vaxers are confused about this. Just in case you are not completely lost down the rabbit hole of bullshit, here is a fuller explanation – Fact check: Merck’s molnupiravir and ivermectin are not the same drug
Thank you CNS
Thank you CNS!
Voila, wallah, waasssaahpp.
I believe this new one is made to replace ivermectin. It’s a money thing
CNS: It’s a completely different drug with completely different ingredients designed to do completely different things. The idea that it is replacing ivermectin is mad and stupid but will nevertheless be posted and reposted on social media for the next year by Facebook idiots. Please don’t become one. Here’s a link with a video to explain.
Oh geesh! CNS.thank you for intervening.
Only takes one of these quacks to say it and then the rest believe it as truth. My god, have we totally lost all of our common sense!
Do we press like for CNS correcting idiots or dislike for the stupid original post on these ones? I never know…
Sweet Jesus Bar Bar, do you really believe the foolishness you are saying? Are you saying you would give pill to your horse to kill its worms and other parasites?
At least you are not saying it’s an “experimental drug.” Will you tell people to take it or are you sticking with the anti-parasitic?
For the Reopening Cabal, Profits Before Lives commenters out there, where were you when people died in car crashes? Were killed or maimed due to drunk drivers? People shot in the streets? Why weren’t you calling for close the road, the bars, the liquor stores, let’s have a permanent 6 pm curfew? That would save lives. But that would be inconvenient for you, wouldn’t it?
This surge in cases has nothing to do with reopening. It was Cayman born and bred. Why don’t you lock yourselves up in your houses and stay there forever. Then you will be safe. But that too is inconvenient for you.
And what do you think Cayman will look like in 5 or 10 years with no tourism at all, if we just put a big glass dome over the island? Do you think it will just stay the same? This is dreaming.
Thank you for your loyal service, soldier.
They don’t really blame this cabal and no it’s not about profits. It’s obvious the vast majority of normal caymanian’s and expats want the border open. The Pople spiting this kindness are just selfish unvaccinated people whoever travel anyway and want a free stipend and don’t want to have to get a job.
*The people spouting this nonsense are…
You had me at “Pople spiting” despite the absurd statement that the vast majority of Caymanians want the border open to a flood of infected tourists.
The tourists will not be infected. We will be vaccinated and have a negative PCR test. Better to hang around us than your own family and friends.
Except neither means you are not infected. You need to educate yourself on being a virus host and infectious. PCR means you are not infectious, the shot means you are unlikely to bet seriously ill. You people need to stop thinking you are invincible and can’t be a spreader.
We do
Bullshit.
First, the outbreak is likely traced to drug trade with Jamaica.
Second, were the government not already committed to reopening to satisfy the foreign dominated and benefitting tourism lobby, we would have locked down and again rid ourselves of the virus, and then been able to resume our normal, functioning, existence.
Now we have chaos, and shortly, death. Every bit of it is connected, directly or indirectly, to our “safe” reopening.
AMEN!!!!
Normal and functioning?
How long can Cayman survive locked up with 14 day isolation?
Non tourisum Business have already left and moved staff to open jurisdictions.
Keep it locked up and we will loose more…Cayman does not export anything and all the territories money leaves…What will be left?
In answer to your question, we could probably handle at least 4 years of effective economic functioning with a 14 day quarantine in place (but we could reduce it significantly with effective testing). Our economy and population have both been expanding over the last 15 months, despite travel restrictions. There are 4 years of major construction underway. But of course you prefer all the functioning businesses and the majority of the economy to be disrupted to chase the often derisory mass market tourism dollar, which ain’t coming in any meaningful number anyway. Oh, that and death as well. Not really a great trade.
Four years of major construction for who? what? Or is development for its own sake all that matters, to hell with a sustainable future.
DART, Watermark, Grand Harbor, George Town Hotels. All built by foreigners, for foreigners, but guaranteeing lots of economic activity in that important sector for at least 3 years. Nothing sustainable about it. Just the basis for the argument we could remain closed off, remain Covid free, and be OK for a while.
So if we are shut for the next 4 years, who the hell are going to purchase all of these condos we are building? You do realize that it is not the local Caymanians buying them and if we keep the island shut they will be left empty and unfinished if nobody is buying them.
Please provide the economic forecast and model you are using to support this 4 year plan?
You have nothing without the outside world, you can’t exist with closed borders. Not too many ships are pulling into harbour to load up on turtle meat these days
We don’t even have turtle meat to export.
The only thing I agree with here is your name. We’ve been thriving the last 18 months and living wonderfully free and safe lives. It’s been bliss.
Constantly playing the “foreign rich people own tourism” card is getting old.
What about me? I’ve had no income for 18 months. My wife has had to support us and our 2 children alone.
What about my friends, who have 2 children under 3, and both of them worked in tourism, and have been on $1200 a month since 2020?
I do feel for you and absolutely think you should be supported.
Why am I still surrounded by foreign construction and office workers? Foreign waitstaff and bartenders? Foreign retail salespersons and building contractors? Foreign drivers and equipment officers? Why are training courses undersubscribed, and scholarships unclaimed?
Easier, and less effort, to blame others rather than put the popeyes down and go after it
Ask Caymanians – I mean a ‘foreign’ worker can only get the job, by law, if a Caymanian can’t do it. Start with the education system.
Why dont you get off you lazy ass and get another job? There are many other jobs you could have applied to and gotten during this time.
Has nothing to do with the drug trade and all to do with people hanging around too close together, not wearing a mask.
Let us go along with your breathtakingly silly comparison of Covid to auto accidents, drink driving casualties, and assaults. Just in case you missed this fact, there are laws against all these things and those responsible are arrested, tried, and face prison if convicted. The penalties are particularly severe if someone dies as a result. Do you propose that we pass laws that will make transmitting Covid a crime with potential jail time if the victim dies or is harmed?
It already is a crime to knowingly transmit a potentially lethal pathogen and to do so in circumstances in which a person dies is murder.
Section 167 of the Penal Code:
A person who unlawfully or negligently does any act which he knows or has reason to believe to be likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to health commits an offence.
Does that mean that our government, knowing that dropping quarantine will result in infected tourists entering and spreading Covid, committed a criminal offense when they decided to drop quarantine? Asking for a friend.
We actually had some laws in relation to breaches etc.
Except we only prosecuted the young American girl and her Caymanian boyfriend, plus the asshole Canadian dude who went out to go to the liquor store as he was too stupid to order in.
And if the American girl wasn’t young and pretty, she wouldn’t have been prosecuted either.
We actually already have laws which make spreading Covid a crime. The Public Health Act is one example. We just don’t enforce laws here.
Because it’s much easier to make people hysterical with an invisible boogyman
Ah…thanks for the rant, which is almost as hysterical as the ones from those you’re criticizing. But I hate to tell you… this coronavirus wasn’t “born” in Cayman. It was born in China. The current outbreak in Cayman was indeed bred here.
It is not a dream if your ignorant. It is bliss and there is no cure.
Bro let us see if your comments will be the same on 25 December 2021 after the border is opened.
So much unnecessary panic and fear on these comments. We were always going to get our first wave some day regardless of border policy. Every adult should now be vaccinated, and getting a booster soon, so there really is nothing to be that worried about. This first wave will pass in the next month or so and there is no basis for not opening on November 20. As an expat is absurd to suggest my family visiting who are negative tested and triple jabbed, or my triple jabbed self, should have to do a quarantine period when are 20 months into the pandemic .covid will be here and mutating still jn 5 years time. Economic suicide if we kept things closed, and it’s here now anyway which was inevitable and unavoidable.
Please stop this at once. This place is not used to all that common sense you have divulged.
The fear mongering is strong today.
Actually the cabal and their bots have been relatively quiet and the percentage of well reasoned comments is therefore high.
I had covid. I didn’t notice anything other than I lost my sense of smell for a week or so. For the jabbed it is no worse than flu now.
Same.
I agree the test results should be available as quickly as possible. I agree if positive no delay in trt.
But negative doesnt mean non infected.possibly the virus is not enough to test positive.
If the person is a contact of a positive , need to stay home until 10 day period complete and test negative .
If the person is not a contact but symptomatic then negative is negative.
For accuracy purposes can someone confirm how active is defined. What it looks to me is that what we are getting is a cumulative total of the reported cases over the past 4 weeks. Does that mean that once you get Covid you remain an active case forever or at least over a 4-6 week period. This is the type of sensationalist reporting that causes scepticism. Even the most unreasonable of us would have to assume that some of those that were reported 4-6 weeks ago are no longer active and hopefully since we don’t have any reported deaths have gone back to their normal lives.
Some countries use 14 day period after test positive as infective to others so active case. Some use 10 day period. Some use until test negative after 14 day period– Possibly we are using this. Public health to confirm
Where can I get one of the “NO TOURISTS TILL 23” T-shirts?
One lady in my office has them for $12 and a neighbor also is selling them for the same price. They are good quality. Not sure which stores have them.
Save your money. The planes are full. Buy masks instead and learn to social distance. Stop gathering in big crowds with your friends. Tourists are the least of your worries.
If someone will post a contact I will order one for everybody in my family.
Bite the hand that feeds you. good strategy
Why waste your money? Our trips are already booked. Do you think the t-shirt is going to intimidate us while we lay on the beach? Wear what you want….not going to bother my family one bit. I’d save your money though.
Waste of money. You realize there’s no more beach as it was?
Save your money for your horse pills and clorox
So they come down 3 days earlier on the 20th, what is the big deal?
🌋 A PUBLIC WARNING TO THE MINISTER IN CHARGE OF THE COVID19 TEST CENTERS: Note, if nothing is done to quicken the PCR test results to at least 12 hours, LOGICALLY the suspected persons waiting for their results will need to go to stores during that time of wait, and with no support – either they will contribute to the SPREADING of the virus, or, they will be added to the numbers admitted to the hospital due to late treatment. PLEASE, GET MORE STAFF NOW IF YOU HAVE TO! NOBODY SHOULD BE WAITING FOR PCR TEST RESULTS WAY OVER 24, 48, or 72 HOURS !!
CBS: “However, the age, comorbidities or vaccination status of the patients has not been released.” . . But pardon me, CNS, why do we need to know the vaccination status of those people in the hospital ??? I think it’s unnecessary and discriminating. At this point of time, everyone is at risk for getting severe symptoms. Hmmm .. I sometimes feel, you have those well-off who wish not only for the unemployment of unvax people but wish for their deaths. On social media I am reading alot of very concerning marxist like views. I won’t be surprise the thumbs down ratings here is a proof of a similar growing reality in the Cayman Islands.
Oh, stop your whining and go get vaccinated or hide under your bed for a year or so. You’re ignorance shouldn’t dictate government policy or how CNS reports the news.
I think people just want to be able to assess their own risk based on the experiences of others in hospital. It does appear certain people – be it the unvaccinated, elderly, those with other illnesses – are at a greater risk of severe symptoms. If others are getting very sick then we might have a bigger problem than we thought and people want to know.
Also if the majority in hospital are unvaccinated, then it’s important for people to know so they can decide whether it would be better for them to go get vaccinated. It doesn’t help anyone to hide information.
You’re confusing Marxism with fascism, bobo
He must be American.
From Floriduh.
You mean the Floriduh you love to visit? There’s much more to the US! Branch out and see the rest of the US.
St. James, What nonsense. The point is that the people who end up in hospital for the most part are people who are not vaccinated, but we still don’t get it here.
Suggest you spend some time looking at the data in Florida or Canada and see who ended up in hospital.
What we have now is a pandemic of the unvaccinated. Unvaccinated people, smarten up.
I am so sick of hearing of vaccinated verses unvaccinated. For the record I am unvaccinated and not by choice. I have medical issues yet my employers and vaccinated peers treats me just like the unvaccinated persons who willing won’t take the vaccine for their personal reasons. However can some consideration be given to those that “cannot” take the vaccine due to medical reasons.
Yes St. James, we should start discriminating against the unvaccinated here because they are making my life hell.
I am fed up with the chronically stupid like you. I also never knew Marx had a view on vaccines.
I don’t see why publishing this information would bother you. You’ve made your choice not to get vaccinated, now you have to own it and accept the truth whatever it is.
How is publishing vaccination status any more discriminating than breakdown by age or sex or island? This is a public health crisis, and we need to know this information. It seems clear that you do not want to admit that according to these statistics, vaccinated people are MUCH MORE PROTECTED from infection than the unvaccinated. That is extremely important for people to know. The science is clear.
That aside, I am would be fascinated to hear more about your Marxist fears. On an island that respect the $$ above everything. We could only hope. LOL
The vaccination status statistics of those hospitaised should be reported to the public. It gives data that could be useful in making a decision whether or not to get vaccinated. If a relatively low percentage of those vaxed end up in hospital, then we can see benefit in being vaxed. Having said this, it is key not to report or use this number in isolation of supporting data or unintentionally misuse the data. For example, in a hypothetical closed population where 100% are vaxed, it follows that 100% of those hospitalised for breakthrough infections will be people who are vaxed. In this case it merely reflects an ultimately high vax rate and not a failure of the vaccine. It is the relationship between ratio of vaxed/unvaxed in the general population versus that ratio among those Covid hospitalised that is useful. If say 70% of the general population is vaxed, but only 20% of those hospitalised for C19 are vaxed, it could suggest benefit in being vaxed.
You have had months to get vaccinated and now you want the data of who is in the hospital to help you make a decision? Unbelievable.
You have absolutely no idea what Marxism is, do you?
Am I right that recent death figures for the vaccinated remain at zero?
Better make way for the bandaleros.
and the unvaccinated, let’s hope that continues.
Correct
Same as for the unvaccinated as well. What are you trying to say?
Cabal, Dart, 800 will surely die, yadda yadda yadda, etc..
If only 1 person dies, then will it still be humorous?
Yes. Next question.
No it will be sad if someone dies, but I will not be able to find empathy for the unvaccinated who die.
We have not learned the lessons from America and Canada. At this point it is nothing but shear stupidity to remain unvaccinated.
And I bet you avoid GMO foods.
And tobacco, alcohol, pesticide riddled marijuana from Jamaica, fatty foods, ignorant commenting, being downright foolish…
Late stage capitalism is fascinating. The planet’s resources are being used up as if there is no tomorrow, climate change consequences are here and will grow as global leaders merely pay it lip service, and a global pandemic that has killed millions of people rages on, with the virus mutating and adapting to the vaccines. The push to reopen the country as if the pandemic grows rapidly daily for the business community and wealthy powerbrokers is peak late stage capitalism. Profits over people. WInners need losers. Propsperity over health and safety.
The result is going to be neither prosperity, nor health or safety.
The end will start with the coming civil war in the U.S. There will be no spoils worth celebrating for the victors and China will rule the world. Sci-fi? Maybe, but maybe not.
The “plan” is, and always was, prosperity for a few. There was no consideration given to the fact that such prosperity would be at the expense of the health and safety of the rest of us.
Ha, ha, “late stage capitalism.” You’re funny.
What color is your Audi SUV?
Metallic gold.
Typed on it’s apple device. Lol
Stop being judgmental against someone using an iPhone. That is ridiculous.
I kept my refurbished iPhone5 that I paid $250, for 5 years and only upgraded because it became obsolete. I used points and paid $20 for my shitty iPhone 11. WHO CARES!!??
I’m still using a blackberry 9900
That’s what Cubans in the 50s said.
Wow. “Late stage capitalism”. Now that’s heavy. Stop doing crack and dope.
Cuba called. They want you back.
Pfizer says COVID-19 pill cut hospital, death risk by 90%
https://www.winknews.com/2021/11/05/new-covid-19-pill-cut-hospital-death-risk-by-90/
“My question is what’s the impact on national security if we do that?” Stewart said. “You’re potentially firing thousands of people on the same day. And it’s not like you put an ad on Craigslist and have people apply by Thursday.”
Thousands of intel officers refusing vaccine risk dismissal
https://www.winknews.com/2021/11/05/thousands-of-intel-officers-refusing-vaccine-risk-dismissal/
Seems like an excellent way to retain the intelligent and lose the less than intelligent.
Excellent – vaccine mandates make us safer in more ways than one.
Interesting those Republican lawmakers were not interested in the intelligence officers who reported on Russia and the Trump campaign but now they are suddenly concerned about national security.
I think it’s safe to say that the CIG has given up at this point and have moved to the stage where they’re just going to let it run its course. Deaths or not.
The whole management of this over the last month has been a shambles. Their guidance for businesses and households is laughable and their recent silence or lack of any apparent plan shows their ineptitude. And the lack of LFTs is complete negligence.
While im at it, the hypocrisy wasn’t lost on me of Panton at the climate conference while we all drive past the dump everyday.
I agree but it’s sad to see. Many countries have included measures to slow the spread as they moved into “learning to live with covid.” Much of Europe, Canada, Israel, T&C etc all require adults to be vaccinated to enter non-essential public places (children and those with medical conditions are exempt of course). Bermuda also had to start using a similar system to get their cases and hospitalizations under control. Many places in Australia are enacting similar legislation as they begin to reopen to international travel.
Cayman appears to be doing nothing. Just a confusing system of testing and quarantining more and more people.
You are right. The CIG dies not have the cojones to mandate that health care workers and CIG civil servants be vaccinated.
A real failure of leadership.
It seems the virus wants:
⁃ social distance – suppose the more time spent with oneself, one will see self. 😠
⁃ No traveling 😡
⁃ No gathering
⁃ No meat eating😡
⁃ No animal killing 😡
⁃ Eat fruit of the trees and as our medicine
⁃ Get healthy
⁃ We change ourselves first
⁃ have compassion for other beings
⁃ Use technology more
⁃ Use science for the good.
⁃ See self
⁃ Change oneself
This looks like transitioning to one’s higher self to me.
We change ourselves as the planet changes itself. 😃
We understand if the ocean dies, humanity will cease to exist.
It is no longer a conspiracy, if what is being said is happening.
So Carbon Tax for everyone?
No. Vaccinations for everyone. You seem to be very confused.
More good news this morning
“A trial of Pfizer’s experimental antiviral pill for Covid-19 was stopped early after the drug was shown to cut by 89% the chances of hospitalisation or death for adults at risk of developing severe disease, the company said this morning.
The results appear to surpass those seen with the Merck pill molnupiravir, which was shown last month to halve the likelihood of dying or being hospitalized for Covid-19 patients also at high risk of serious illness.”
Too bad the decision was made to allow Covid to rip through our community now rather than waiting a few weeks.
The decision was made to stay closed until a vaccine was developed and the population was inoculated. Many chose to not accept the vaccine and contributed greatly to the current spread. Will the same people that rejected the vaccine also reject the pill? If so, whats the point of waiting. if not, why the hypocrisy, its still a fast track medicine.
So, 80% of the population is vaxxed, and they aren’t spreading it?
Again, you are forgetting about the children. Why could we not have waited until school age children could get vaccinated? Not just for the children’s sakes, but for the older and more vulnerable members of the community whom they interact with. Please stop excluding children from “the population.”
The Canadian Government said today that the fastest growing age group of new COVID cases there are the 12 and under group.
True. Everyone is going to get the covid -it’s a matter of time. Get the immune system ready
How many deaths from covid of vaccinated people in this wave? Still zero?
I suggest you check the lag between identifying positives in Bermuda, and deaths in Bermuda. Funny how that works.
They are now at 106 dead (and counting). Around a fifth are fully vaccinated. It is an excellent indicator of what a safe reopening is going to look like here.
Add into the mix a further 500,000 deaths forecast for Europe this winter, and then come back and make light of the total shitshow which has been foist on the Caymanian people.
This was not a time for our leaders to allow themselves to get distracted by a particular lobby group and only confront one side of the issues. But that is what happened.
Given we are destined to be collateral damage, can they please tell us how many of us they have accepted will be sacrificed on their altar of misguided commercial expedience?
Yes, but Bermuda doesn’t have world-class civil servants running their health authority like we do.
we are neither Bermuda or Europe !! why keep mentioning Bermuda ??? get vaccinated and you wont be on the alter…………….. easy
But 20 vaccinated Bermudans did get sacrificed (and 86 unvaccinated who by the way didn’t deserve to suffocate to death either). It is truly ignorant not to learn from those walking the path ahead of us, and arrogant to suggest our journey, on the same path, will be materially different.
and its arrogant to be selfish and not let others enjoy life. That is after all why we are here in this world.
If you dont want to enjoy life then lock all your doors throw away the key, pull the curtains, turn the lights off and be a hermit. Maybe you will eat healthily and feed off the land and be teetotal…………. if only
Everyone is and always was free to travel. You just have to pay the airfare, and obey each countries rules including as to quarantine. I am sorry that you find it necessary for 100+ to die so that you do not suffer the indignity of a weeks’ quarantine.
Sadly, if you are vaccinated but unhealthy you will still have a difficult time with this virus, as you would with seasonal flu, pneumonia etc.
The PACT administration would have us believe that this is all a part of the plan and that the plan is working as designed.
None of the business owners that I have spoken with (who have been impacted by the uncontrolled and rapid spread of the virus) seem to have been adequately prepared for what is currently unfolding within our community. Many businesses that are not losing money as a result of staff isolations are losing money as a result of a reduction customer traffic.
The already struggling domestic economy has been placed in an unsustainable position by the decisions that have been made by, in my opinion, an inexperienced PACT administration who have acquiesced to the demands from certain lobbying efforts.
With PPM and PACT it’s who you know.
People are going to die. Hope all the unvaccinated amateur Facebook scientists are prepared with the excuses.
aint nobody healthy going to die! go get your vaccine a shutup!
Right – of the 770,000 who have died from Covid so far in the US many were healthy, then they got Covid and ceased to be healthy, then they died.
At this time, 9 people think there will be no more deaths. Wow.
Give it a couple of weeks, I guarantee it.
FFS, if you’re not vaccinated, just get it to at least protect yourself.
Get vaccinated! And then get on with life.
Get on with my profits! Mama needs a new Audi!!!
prefer Jaguar actually
Any idea when the vaccine will be available here for kids under 12 now that the CDC has granted approval?
Clueless people saying we should have kept 14 day quarantine and stayed locked down, Covid will be here in 2030. The financial services industry which is 80% of our economy won’t be here in 2 years if we don’t open up soon, 50 per cent of this island are expats and they are largely employed in that industry,,, get in the real world, end quarantine and open up, or there won’t be a cayman in 5 years.
The financial service industry is leaving over the minor inconvenience of a 14 day quarantine? The sky is falling!!!!
2 weeks is a long time to quarantine when you are on a 2 day business trip.
Zoom. It is faster and cheaper and can even be used for that all important alone time with your secretary.
an excellent temporary solution, Zoom etc will never be able to replace face to face interaction, not to mention site visits etc.
There’s no jolly in Zoom.
cant zoom family. Most people will not stay if they are effectively locked up on the island.
So go and see them. Quarantine is an inconvenience, not a barrier to seeing family. It saves lives.
All I wanna do is a zoom zoom zoom in…..
Can’t use zoom for a client game of golf, steak dinner, coke fueled strip club evening though?
Expats that we don’t need in that industry who could either go home and be useful or upskill themselves in a new job.
And take their kids with them
9:03 , We certainly have so many Caymanians that know so much about Hedge Funds, don’t we?
We are a brilliant people with our wonderful public education system.
Get vaccinated 9:03.
What do you think all the tourism stipend recipients have been getting trained up in for the last 18 months? Watch out!
Carpentry and roof building
where do you think the government gets its money from to pay all the NAU payments and stipends for Caymanians, exactly? You drive out the expats that you do not need, those industries cannot function, the government cannot charge their chunky fees and back to third world status goes Cayman!
Cayman never was third world. What you see as third world is the cheap labor you insisted be brought in to meet your needs, without you having to pay a fair wage.
Our public education system is Third World whether we like to admit it or not.
Hikarious. There are no caymanians capable of doing the hedge fund jobs
What an idiot. I know multiple Caymanians employed in the hedge fund industry at the senior level in multi-national firms – including a close family member.
Correct. Keep in mind also that the global minimum tax movement isn’t going away. If that does happen Cayman will lose its competitive advantage in financial services and the industry will shrink dramatically.
Cayman needs to get tough before the situation gets totally out of control.
Mandatory vaccines now for all health workers and CIG civil servants or the unvaccinated should find another job.
Also no more unvaccinated people flying between Cayman Brac / Little Cayman and Grand Cayman.
If you are not vaccinated you don’t fly.
Rubbish
One man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure.
The so-called “non-mandatory” hospitalizations aside, Cayman is now getting the number of hospitalizations where recent statistics suggest we will start seeing deaths. Since Covid mortality is reduced by vaccinations, and Cayman has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world, I would suspect the mortality rate here is less than most other countries.
Nonsense. Covid going nowhere and we have high vaccination rates. Get on with it like the rest of the world have.
I think the point being made was that we will likely have some deaths related to covid, given that we are getting people in hospital, but that it should be lower than some other countries due to our relatively high vax rate.
I’m not sure what part was nonsense to you.
What are you babbling about? Are you suggesting there will be no deaths?
Sorry I replied to wrong message. Meant for the cabal Bermuda nonsense repeat commentators
The Reopen Cabal and their lackeys are to thank for this highly dangerous surge in cases and hospitalizations, and this is their “learning to live with it” plan. The push to return to their sense of normal now has Covid rapidly spreading and it’s simply a matter of time before someone dies. Someone that doesn’t deserve to be cannon fodder for the wealthy and business cabal. Pure evil.
CITA seems awfully quiet. How is the safe reopening going fellas?
It’s not safe. It never was going to be safe. Anyone who stopped to think for a moment, knew it wouldn’t be safe.
Our politicians and others were either dishonest or succumbed to a classic marketing ploy. Remember kids – we were once told cigarettes were good for us and a cola day will keep the doctor away.
It is a freaking outrage that we are confronting this, especially without all relevant facts being freely and openly shared. They have modeled how many of us are going to die. Why the secrecy? Are they afraid we will conclude it’s not safe after all, and that we have been lied to by people who knew better, to advance their commercial aims?
I will accept no slander on Coca-Cola, especially the original version!
They captured government and are now too busy salivating at the prospect of tourist money going to their wallets to bother communicating with the Cayman public.
We’ll find out after the 20th. Today’s shitshow is on you and yours alone.
Quick, close the boarders!
If there can be one lesson to come out of this COVID pandemic, I am hoping it is Caymanians learning the difference between “boarders” and “borders”.
Quick! Volunteer to help with patients at the hospital!
Hoaspital
Learn to spell.
There is good news though
Wayne is at COP26 and met Prince Charles. The Cayman borders reopen on November 20. Nobody has died so far from the current wave – only 11 in hospital. Only about 2,500 people in isolation/quarantine. Cayman Airways is still flying to Honduras. Only part of Seven Mile Beach is destroyed.
With apologies to the Who… Meet the new UDP… same as the old UDP….
Developers are still busy destroying mangrove wetlands, asphalt and cement imports remain at all time highs, work on the government’s new Kenny B recording studio is progressing, inflation is increasing, homeless numbers are up, the number of children dependent on meals from charities is increasing. All and all the first 6 months of PACT have been beyond what any of us could have imaged on election day.
And the racoons have been captured!
And the raccoons were executed too.
Poor, poor raccoons. Raccoon Lives Matter!
Get vaccinated, final chance
Is the portal up and running for the tourists coming Nov. 20? What about information on their PCR tests to get back home?
No. #worldclass
As part of the PACT plan to boost tourism they will spend an extra three days waiting for the PCR test results.
The plan is in the planning stages.
Portal doesn’t know what is happening with the portal starting Nov 20. “Thank you for your e-mail. In regards to the re-opening plan, the updated regulations have not yet been published. Please keep monitoring http://www.exploregov.ky”
Currently the instructions are to apply 10 business days in advance of travel…hope the portal is no longer required!
It’s still the same quarantine as before so far as the portal is concerned. Just signed up for a 12/1 trip to Cayman yesterday. Amazingly they have already visited and approved our house this morning.
Wear a mask and social distance. Stay away from large crowds. THIS is what will keep you protected. Vaccinate if you haven’t. That will increase your chances that if you do get covid that you won’t end up in the hospital.
Being healthy and taking care of yourself will assist in preventing you from going to the hospital.
Bermuda, Singapore, Turks and Caicos.
Europe.
New Zealand, Australia and Pitcairn Island.
And a new Delta variant found in 8 U.S. states this week
Quick. Close the borders to boarders!
In order of Covid deaths per capita while learning to live and die with Covid it is probably Bermuda/TCI/Singapore. Too early to tell yet where we will end up in that continuum.
