Little Cayman COVID free but Brac sees two cases
(CNS): Public Health has confirmed that a Little Cayman resident who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 while on Grand Cayman on Friday is isolating on that island and was not allowed to travel back to the Sister Island. Little Cayman has not yet had a case of the virus and since everyone who had come into contact with this resident tested negative, it appears that the island is still keeping the virus at bay.
However, Cayman Brac recorded its first two cases Tuesday, which were unrelated to the island-hoping Little Cayman resident. That individual, who is believed to be an unvaccinated civil servant, travelled from Little Cayman to Cayman Brac and then on to Grand Cayman and had taken the test ahead of plans to return to Little Cayman.
The person is now in isolation in Grand Cayman and will not be allowed to return until he is no longer infectious. Officials said that government quarantine facilities are available to deal with these circumstances going forward.
The first positive cases in the Sister Islands since the current community transmissions began in September were confirmed Tuesday. A symptomatic walk-in patient at Faith Hospital was found to be positive after being tested Monday. A primary contact of the patient who had come to the hospital with that person also tested positive and a second primary contact was tested Tuesday afternoon.
Public Health has already begun contact tracing for the incident and 62 people have attended a routine walk-in COVID-19 screening clinic at the hospital with results currently pending.
To date, a total of 1,860 people from the Sister Islands have been vaccinated against COVID-19. Over 83% of the population on Cayman Brac and 95% on Little Cayman are fully vaccinated.

Cayman Brac variant taking hold now boy.
Just an FYI, when you allow medical people, who I assume are on work permits in without vaccination, this is what happens. I know of a couple people on the Brac, who refuse to get vaccinated, because the suffer from Red Hat syndrome, one is a nurse at Faith, who interacts daily with sick and immune compromised people.. Gov’t if they are unwilling to comply, send them home… pretty simple, this is your Country..
UK scrapping red list and the last countries needing quarantine due to declining threat of Covid. Meanwhile cayman panicking over letting in vaccinated and negative test visitors. Time for us to get in the real world.
Why is everyone getting doa nary about ending vaxed quarantine in November 20? We already have Covid here, a really high vax rate, and this inevitable wave will peak before then. Plus all visitors will be negative and vaxed. Half the island are expats locked here for 18 months… completely unreasonable for us to quarantine or have our family we haven’t seen in over a year who visit quarantine when we got vaxed 9 months ago and are about to get boosters.
17 Cases from yesterday on the Brac, many more to follow today. Hope the people realize that getting vaccinated is the safest option we have to AVOID SERIOUS ILLNESS!!!. We all will come in contact with this at some point. And another thing i want to highlight is that most of these persons that are positive are either Vapers, smokers (SHeeSha etc) or been around some sort of recreational activity, or crowded indoor areas (bars, airport etc). If no one gets seriously ill then we are in good shape and need to go on with our lives.
How can they say this when a Civil servant traveled from LC to CB and GC on Friday and tested positive when trying to get back to LC.
Strictly speaking it is true as he is now in quarantine on GC but he started as positive in LC…

Also the article said the person was trying to check in when Public health contacted them at the airport so they had gone to the airport with every intention of checking in before they had a negative pcr result.

He traveled from lc to cb to gc on Friday for work and tested positive on Sat. The chance he picked it up on his travels in less than 24 hours is infitessimally small. Keep your head in the sand ostrich
Went to get my booster today at the Civic Center. Brac. It wad was a lot of people there. It was poorly organized . LET in too many people in the same small room at one time. They said it was for the booster shots. But people was there getting their first and second shots also, lots of people there not being placed 6 feet aoart. It was very bad what went on there today, i am pretty sure the virus was spreading there today, very sad. Why they can’t have it at least 2 times a week until things slack off.
What you describe pretty much amounts to criminal negligence.

At the Brac faith Hospital, to get to the Pharmacy to get their refills has to pass the main waiting room, the hallway
Where people are waiting to get blood test /xrays and the emergency room where people is waiting to see the doctor. Its bad especially at Covid 19 time, one has to go through the hospital to get to the pharnacy. Maybe spreading the virus. Before they had a tent at the pharmacy outside window where people could go and get their refills instead having to go through the hospital to get to the pharmacy. But that window is closed and the tent gone. It would be good and sensible to build a permanent room there so people wouldn’t have to go through the hospital . Thanks.
The decision to relax the strict COVID-19 suppression measures put in place by the previous administration, especially the requirement to quarantine in government run facilities, is directly responsible for the community spread that we are experiencing today.
Government finances (despite the government proposing new long term expenditures) seem to be at the core of the current decision making. Groups like CITA have also been able to successfully navigate the personalities within an inexperienced PACT government.
Where we find ourselves today is with the CDC raising the COVID-19 travel alert for the Cayman Islands to Level 3 (high level) of 4 possible levels. At the rate we are going we might be at level 4 before the proposed reopening date in November.

Your hopes and dreams of Cayman remaining in this little bubble are long gone. It’s been two years. Cayman needs to catch up to the rest of the world and build some herd immunity otherwise we’ll be locked up til 2030.
Herd immunity? Seriously? Have you been away from the news for a couple of months? To get you up to speed: Those at the forefront of Covid planning and research have long since given up on herd immunity being a practical expectation.

Do we? Do we “need” to catch up and watch the virus ravage our islands as they have virtually everywhere else? We had something unique and marketable. Perhaps hotels could have offered a discounted first week for quarantine, or other incentives to draw people who want to vacation without restrictions, once having cleared quarantine.
What we have now, is being on the cusp of being classified by CDC as Level 4, Covid-19 running through our communities, and that’s just the beginning. I hope people like you someday get a clue as to the consequences of your wishes.
…. and yes, I am vaccinated. I did it to be responsible, not to create a situation in which the rich could sacrifice our safety to line their pockets.

In a world wide pandemic burying your head in the sand is not a solution. Not long term and imagining the Govt has unlimited money to support your ideal is naive. Inward investment would dry up living with 15 days quarantine. Your plan is financial suicide, and Covid will still be here. It was inevitable it would come here and we are suffering from ignoring it for too long. We are 12 months at least behind the curve of dealing with Covid.
If that is really you view then everything we endured during lockdown was pointless.

I sincerely hope that our representative in Cabinet will do whatever she can to keep the people of the Sister Islands safe. What is going on in Grand Cayman is a disaster we do not need.

I live on the Brac. This is the first I’ve heard of a case in September. I would think that was information that we should have. It right pisses me off that this information was not given.

I don’t understand, LC is going to do voluntary PCR testing in the next few days instead of it being required … How can the gov or the press say we are covid free, when they don’t know?.

It would be great if our so called healthcare professionals would stop organizing indoor super spreader events to which those suspected of having Covid are invited, in such close proximity to the most vulnerable. Just sayin.
