More COVID cases unrelated to schools
(CNS): Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee revealed in today’s report that there were twelve positive cases from the community, including four children, as well as several adults unconnected to the schools. There were also four positive cases in travellers due to leave isolation. Since 8 September and the re-appearance of the virus in the community, there have been 188 local transmissions found after 25,000 negative tests over the five week period, indicating that the current positive rate is 0.26%.
As of Thursday there were 195 active cases of the virus. Of those 110 are showing symptoms of the virus, though there have been no new hospital admissions and all the children are said to be recovering very quickly from the ill effects of the virus.
Meanwhile, another 107 people got their second shot of the vaccine over the last day while an additional 57 people got their first dose. The national rate for the full course remains at 75%, with more than 78% now having received at least one shot.
The booster programme has now opened up to all those aged 60 or over and remains open to those with compromised immune systems and healthcare workers.

Sometimes we imagine every one knows how it is transmitted. They feel shy to admit.preventive measures of vaccination, hand washing , social distancing and masking should be addressed in relation to transmission by news paper ads tv ads regularly .
I think contact tracing for community cases is a waste of time, will someone who played dominoes with a family in quarantine admit it?.
I feel so sad when I read these comments. Humans are so heartless. No wonder we have Covid19. Maybe it would be better if it just wiped all of the humans out. Earth needs a restart.
CNS, you need to use a shorter timeframe for the test positivity rate.
The current rate would not be based on a five week period as the virus will progress through the community over time.
The rate will be low when first discovered then rise as the virus spreads and hopefully then decline as public health measures are implemented and people’s behaviour changes.
Yesterday’s test positivity would be he 12 cases found divided by the number of tests performed. Over 4,500 tests would have been needed for 12 positives to be a 0.26% rate.
If we did 1,000 tests the rate is 1.2% and if only 500 tests were performed in the community then we are at 2.4%
The number as stated for a 5-week period is useless and hopefully Dr. Lee isn’t the source…
let’s start counting how many peoples livelihoods have been destroyed. why are we allowing a minority of voices have a disproportionate amount of influence. Open Cayman!
Total industry of 4000 people amounts to <20% of annual territorial GDP, and that was in the best years. Total annual cruise ship head taxes in best record year was around USD$3mln, which amounts to just over one calendar quarter's worth of subsidy of the turtle abattoir. The CIG farts that much in stipend payments every month. All local industry owners were told this could be a couple years, and were given an opportunity to meet with professional business consultants for free so they could retool in early 2020. Very few were willing to accept, pivot, and make executable adaptations. That business inflexibility is not down to a temporary suspension of tourist traffic.
What do you want/ A class on how to put on a mask? Educate yourself. Since the UK opened fully with no asks or any restrictions of any kind, on July 19th, there has been no significant increase in daily deaths and cases. You know why? because people took self responsibility and naturally carried on hand washing, distancing etc. Grow up and take some responsibility for youself.
Agree on masks, washing and distancing. In last 24 hrs, the UK has recorded the highest daily cases since mid-July: 45,140, and 57 more deaths.
how many in hospital?…that is the only relevant stat.
So what? Can we stop analyzing every damn case and get these kids back in school.
The inadequate public education by the government for self protection, and protection of our precious children from this virus, prior to making any moves towards reopening is disgraceful. They want to open up but the only defense they are touting is to get vaccinated. That is get vaccinated with a vaccine that is rapidly waning in efficacy.
If you read the public information, you would know that the vaccine’s efficacy at preventing hospitalisations and deaths is not rapidly waning.
You are thinking of the efficacy of vaccinated people catching the virus.
As the vaccine was always meant to prevent hospitalisations and deaths, it is still working.
Those that do suffer the biggest drop in efficacy are the elderly, immune compromised, or anyone who has caught measles since the vaccine of actually catching the virus.
the vaccine is fine in the average person. some need a booster, but only the elderly and those with a compromised immune system, and Health care workers who are working with covid patients. PS the only defence we have for polio, measles, small pox, rubella, etc etc are vaccines.
Big whoop. Cases, not hospitalizations. Open the border. Get rid of quarantine for everyone vaccinated. Learn to live in a world where covid exists.
7.37pm Don’t worry you’ll get covid soon enough. It’s a treat, you’ll really enjoy it. Long covid is the best.
No, I won’t. I have both vaccinations and a booster. I wear a mask when I can’t social distance. I wash my hands. I am not afraid to live in a world where covid exists. Been going to work, restaurants, gym, shopping, traveling and following the covid protocols. It really is ok if you live and follow certain protocols. You can do both. I don’t need to be locked away.
Really? What about the people who vaccinated and did all the things that you did? And are still dead. There was a man in Florida that happened to lately.
OMG of course it’s not 100% fool proof but like wearing a seatbelt I’m much safer because I’m vaxxed.
Please note: as of yesterday’s press conference, per Dr Lee, boosters are now available to anyone over 60. You don’t have to be over 70, or have a condition, or have a doctor’s note.
There is so much more to it than deaths and hospitalizations. My sister got covid overseas, was very sick but not ill enough to be admitted to hospital. That was more than a year ago. She is still suffering from long-covid so badly that a quick walk around the supermarket to get a few groceries in the morning, means she has to sleep all afternoon from the sheer exhaustion. She still hasn’t been able to return to work and is so fatigued she can barely do anything or leave the house. She’s 32 and was a previous marathon runner. She now spends more time in bed than out of it. Some life. Covid is serious.
I’m guessing she got covid before she had a chance to get vaccinated. This also happened to a few friends of mine, who were also young and in shape. I hope your sister’s health improves.
Duh. Of course it was before she could get a vaccine. A year ago there were not any!
I haven’t heard any details of long covid this year in fully vaccinated people. Does anyone know if it is happening?
We should notice that 16% of Bermuda’s dead were optimistic fully-vaccinated. 44% of their active cases, also “I’m over this” fully-vaccinated. Vaccination against Covid-19 helps a great deal, but is not an inoculation against Delta/Covid-21. We need to get vaccinated AND distance/mask/wash hands/reduce gatherings. Until next generation of mRNA VOC-specific vaccines are issued, don’t learn the hard way that this ride isn’t over yet.
Not being vaccinated can really mess with you. Luckily there is a free solution.
